An Evzone on guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Syntagma Square in Athens. The Evzones are an elite branch of the Hellenic Army and the men are selected specially for this unit based on a number of requirements, one being at least 6' 1' tall.

The Tomb is in the French urban and classical tradition, combined with the modern spirit of Art Deco and with symbolic references to Ancient Greece. The main issue was the integration of the Tomb with Syntagma Square and with the neoclassical Palace and the contribution to the redevelopment of the square. The sculpture is at the center of the wall. To the left and to the right there are two side staircases while in the center there is a rectangular raised grave. The stairs of the monuments are purely decorative, as the steps are for observation during ceremonies. The sculpture represents the naked male figure of a dead warrior lying on the ground. He holds a circular shield in his left hand and wears an Ancient Greek-style helmet. The representation of the body gives the impression that the Unknown Soldier is ready to arise at any moment.

To the left and right of The Tomb are sculptured phrases from the works of Thucydides. To the left, "There's one bed made, but, still, empty: the bed of the unidentified soldiers"; to the right, "The whole earth is the sepulcher of famous men". Both quotes are from History of the Peloponnesian War. Over the main sculpture in smaller writing, is a sculptured phrase which reads "To an unknown soldier".

a sort of reflection about what the failure. this is what allows us to make progress?

In any case, I liked crumpled paper after having folded the base!!

fold from one uncut square of kraft paper (40/40cm) for each piece ...

for the hedgehog I use the base of my glyptodon: a sort of frog base ...

So I can say now: it's not so esasy to crumpled paper as you want !!!!!

A vision of a future Moon base that could be produced and maintained using 3D printing.

Habitat modules are seen beside ‘garages’ for rovers, with an adjacent launch site. Note the robotic vehicles on the surface, proceeding with base construction.

A new ESA-led project is investigating the ways that 3D printing could be used to create and run a habitat on the Moon, reducing logistical dependency on Earth. Everything from building materials to solar panels, equipment and tools to clothes, even nutrients and food ingredients can potentially be 3D printed – as detailed in this new video.

Space agencies around the world are considering the concept of a lunar base as a possible next step in human space exploration – and 3D printing represents a key technology for making it happen.

The aim would be to ‘live off the land’ as much as possible, by printing as many structures, items and spares out of lunar regolith as possible, or by using and reusing materials brought for the mission, rather than continuously relying on the long, expensive supply line from Earth.

Maximised 3D printing would also allow on-demand production of items and spares with routine recycling of materials available within the base, making lunar settlement much more self-sufficient and sustainable.

“The selected print processes would allow available materials to be recycled for different purposes,” explains Antonella Sgambati of OHB System AG, managing the project. “Another major benefit of 3D printing – otherwise known as additive manufacturing – is the breadth of design options it allows. Components, products and the print process itself can be redesigned based on their intended final usage in the lunar base. Decisions can be made on how best to link available materials with the hardware to be printed.”

Supported through ESA’s Basic Activities, this ‘Conceiving a Lunar Base Using 3D Printing Technologies’ project is being run by the URBAN consortium led by Germany’s OHB System AG, with extreme environments specialist Comex in France, Austrian design company Liquifer Systems Group and spacecraft structures manufacturer Sonaca Space in Germany.

Boise City, Oklahoma got lemons and made them into a minor roadside attraction.

Boise City: A Small Town in Oklahoma that has an Explosive Claim to Fame.

It all began on July 5, 1943. At the other end of the world, the United States was involved in a bitter war against the Axis forces. The citizens of Boise City followed the news closely,

Meanwhile, pilots at Dalhart Army Air Base in Texas were preparing four B-17 bombers for a practice run. The nighttime training mission was to begin a few hours after dark. The navigator was supposed to lead the flight group from Dalhart base to drop bombs in a range near Conlen, Texas. The target was a small square area, lit by four lights at each corner. It was supposed to be a simple mission, but somehow, something went horribly wrong.

Thirty miles to the north, most of the 1,200 residents of Boise City had already gone to bed. Most of the lights of the small town had been shut off, with an exception of the lights that surrounded the courthouse square. The small city seemed deserted, except for a small café and a few young couples walking home after leaving the local movie theater.

It was just after midnight when all hell broke loose in this sleepy little town. The explosions weren’t particularly loud, but they were loud enough to wake most, if not all, of the 1,200 people in Boise City.

The air raid continued for thirty long minutes as the townspeople rushed for cover. The first bomb thundered through the roof of a garage and exploded, digging a four-foot deep hole in the floor. The B-17 made another pass and dropped a second bomb that struck the white framed Baptist church, exploding beside the building and breaking out several windows. The crater was three feet deep.

A massive explosion takes place at the base of the plume where molten lava is pumping into the ocean on the Island of Hawaii.

The plume is comprised of steam, sulfur dioxide, glass particles, ash, rock, and black sand. As the molten lava pours out of the lava tubes that carried it from magma chambers under the flanks of Mauna Loa volcano above, it instantly explodes into black sand and rock fragments. Many of these molten chunks will continue floating and steaming on the ocean. This is the most ocean entry lava that has been seen here in local memory.

Photo taken at 8:15 PM on July 14th, 2008 – Island of Hawaii

These photos can be found in high resolution for prints and digital downloads here

Later that night the full moon eerily lit this whole plume from the side and I took some photos of that shown here ,or you might see them on the news before that.

Thank you for visiting and commenting, I appreciate that a lot,
