From the outside it looks like a normal castle on a hill, but nestled in the caves below is a modern underground base.
Base Brown, a particularly scenic Argentine research station. Located in Paradise Harbor on the mainland of the Antarctic peninsula.
My last project of the 2022, based on two nights in Negev desert during July 27 and September 22. I had plans to dedicate one extra night to capture H-alpha and Oxygen channels but it's currently put indefinitely on hold.
This star field of the Milky Way is rich not only in stars but also in a mixture of dark and bright nebulae, Herbig–Haro objects, few small emission nebulae and open star clusters (check to see attached annotated image showing location of these objects).
What looks like one regular star has a secret:
"A variable star V1331 Cyg harbors HH389 object and lights up the small reflection nebula around it (GN 20.59.5.01) forming an arc around the variable star. The reflection nebula is the dust left from the creation of the star that's lit by the star it created. As such it takes on pretty much the color of the illuminating star. Radiation pressure from the star likely created the arc as it pushed away the dusty cocoon of its birth. The star seems out of center indicating this dust may be piling up at a shock front as it moves through the very dusty interstellar medium in this part of the galaxy."

誰もが言葉にできなかったあの夏の日のこと、なんてのをイメージしました😃
たぶん５分ほどで読み終えてしまうと思うので、電車時間などにどうぞ😃
小説（掌編） 【 すりガラス 】
あらすじ
遠藤 シュン 22才と、同級生、関口香奈のお話。
シュンは商社へ就職し、7月からオーストラリアへ。海外へ行く前に地元へ帰る。
掌編 【 すりガラス 】
7月の夕暮れは、すりガラスの向こう側のように霞んでしまう。真夏に向かっていろんなものが鮮やかに色を放つというのに、夕暮れによって光を失うと精彩は失われ、描いた絵にうっかり落とした水滴のようにじゃみてしまう。
閉館間際の図書館の窓の外に目を落としたシュンは、しばらくの間、ぼんやり夕暮れを眺めていた。
シュンは、７月から日本を離れ、オーストラリアの東部へ向かう。就職した商社が、これからの水素社会のために、日本へ輸入を計画しているためだ。シュンは、既に動き出している現地スタッフに混じり、新しいメンバーとして参加する。採用された中でシュンが特別に優秀だったわけではなく、面接の際、「いきなり出向となったら君はどうする？」と訊かれ、つい調子に乗って「がんばります」と快活に答えたからのようだった。そして７月から新天地へ向かう。明日、成田空港で１３時に待ち合わせている。上司は、「向こうへ到着してからも隔離だから、まぁちょっと大変だけど」と大きなお腹を左右に揺らして笑っていた。そんな語尾に釣られて、へつらった笑顔で返す自分が嫌になる。大人になると失うことも得ることも同時に起こるのかもしれない。
静まり返った本棚の連続に、目を移して、シュンは昔聞いたポップソングを思い出していた。

就職し、仕事を得られた安堵と同時に、何かを失ってしまった。シュンは立ち上がって、手にしていた本を棚へ戻した。本は、香奈が好きだったものだ。当時はハードカバーだったが、今はもう小ぶりな文庫分に置き換えられている。人気のある本なのでかなり痛んでいた。
すっかり静まり返った図書館の気配を背にし、外へ出た。外にはまだ強い湿気が残っていた。鬱陶しい夏の始まりだというのに、シュンの胸の内は静かだった。
図書館を出て左へ曲がり、T字路へ差し掛かってシュンは立ち止まった。まっすぐ歩けば、たぶん僕が好きなカレーを作って母が自宅で待っている。でも、右手の横断歩道を渡って、まっすぐ歩けば、香奈の自宅だ。
ー 香奈 ー
立ち止まって、シュンは俯き、胸の内で香奈の名を反芻した。
小学校のとき、中学校のとき、高校生のとき、いつでも当たり前のようにそばにいた香奈を僕はやっぱり大切にしなかったんだ。でもー
でも、本当に大切なことを言葉にしたら、失ってしまうことだってあるじゃないかー 言葉にした途端、すべて色褪せて消えてしまう、そんな想いだってあるじゃないかー
言葉にする勇気ー 僕にはやっぱりなくて、でもきっと香奈はそれを持っていた。運動会の準備でも、高校受験の試験勉強でも、戸惑っている僕の背中を押してくれたのは香奈だった。
クラクションの高い音でシュンは我に返った。シュンが鳴らされたわけではなく、誰かが赤信号を無視して渡ったようだった。別々の大学に進んだ４年間の重みが、シュンの足を止めていた。払ってシュンは、まっすぐ歩き出した。
玄関を開けた家の奥には、案の定、カレーの匂いが立ち込めていた。
「いっぱい作ったからいっぱい食べてねー」
妙に明るい母の声には意味がある。深い意味ではない。シュンがそこそこ有名な商社へ入り込み、かつ、明日からはオーストラリアへ旅立つからだ。シュンの田舎で、商社と言ったらもはやドリカムなのだ。有名無名など無関係。明日から、うちの子は日本を離れるんですよーというだけで、雲の上の存在なのだ。シュンが昨日、ちょっと近所を出歩いただけで、三人のおばさんに話しかけられ、三人共にシュン君はいいねーなどと褒められ、母の存在感を味わう。カレーを食べて、お風呂に入って、早く寝て、さっさとこの場所を離れようー
シュンは硬く目を閉じて寝返りを打ったが、朝まで眠れることはなかった。
「第三ターミナルって異常に遠いよね。遠い場所に作って不便を促す発想は、うちの会社にはないなー、遠藤くん」
額の汗をマスクで拭った上司は、重そうなお腹をやっと前に進ませている。シュンは、適当な笑みで返しながら、寝不足と上司の言葉どおりに使い果たした体力で、気持ちが深く沈んでいた。
「うちが現地で契約しているスタッフが、遠藤くんといっしょに現地入りする。しばらくはスタッフの指示に従って、感染しないように」
ふいに笑顔になった上司は、僕の背後に向かって声を掛け、手招きした。
振り返ったシュンは、しばらく声を失っていた。上司が僕の紹介をし、現地スタッフである香奈に関して、簡潔に説明した。
上司は僕らを付き合わせると、これから本社の青山まで戻らなければならないからと言って歩き出し、シュンに着いたらメールするように、と笑顔を残して去った。去り際に香奈へ、いろいろご迷惑をお掛けするかもしれませんがよろしくお願いいたしますと、難しい顔で伝えた。香奈は、上司の難しい表情を解きほぐすような丁重な声と笑顔で、「どうにかなりますからー」と答えた。
出発ラウンジへ歩き出しながら、シュンは言った。
「どうしてここに？」
香奈は、立ち止まってやや怒り気味に言った。
「どうしてって、ただの偶然でしょ？」
香奈の言うとおりだった。ただの偶然だ。香奈がここまで仕込んで筋書きを立てられるとも思えないし、そんな意味などないのだからー
手続き済ませてゆっくりしようよと、香奈は再び歩き出しながら言い放った。
シュンも賛成だった。歩きながら話したいけど、歩きながら話せるような軽さは微塵もない。シュンらは、人気の少ないターミナルの中を進んでいった。
手荷物を預け、出国を済ませると、シュンらはラウンジに腰掛け、カップのコーヒーの蓋を開けた。カップはかなり火照っていた。ラウンジの高い天井の隅には、赤い風船が、エアコンのゆるい風に吹かれて揺れていた。子供が手放したんだろうけど、それはいつだったんだろう、シュンはそんな余計なことを考えている自分にイラついた。
香奈は、コーヒーにフーフー息を吹きかけながら、一口啜ると言った。
「きのう、図書館の近くのT字路で立ち止まってたでしょ。わたし、見てたんだよ」
シュンはどきりと胸が跳ねたが、気づかれぬようさらっといった。
「なんで、見てたの？」
「ひさびさに日本に帰ってきて、家の窓から夕暮れ見てたの。そしたら、見慣れた人影が。シュンかなって思ったけど、まさかいるわけないよねって。でもシュンだった。見てたっていうよりも、目に入ってきたって感じかな」
シュンは長椅子に腰を深く落とし直した。アルミ製の椅子は、エアコンですっかり冷えている。シュンは、香奈の横顔にいった。
「髪、短くしたんだ」
香奈は、目を丸くしていった。
「興味があるんだ」
シュンは、やや攻撃的な口調の香奈を悟すように言い返した。
「なんで怒ってるの？」
「怒ってなんかないよ」
「いやいや怒ってるじゃん。怒りが滲んでこぼれてるぞ」
「そういうときもあるのよ」
香奈はシュンの問いを適当にあしらって、飛行場内に目を移した。シュンらが乗り込む飛行機は、強い陽射しを浴びて、今、目の前に静かに止まっている。
香奈はシュンに目を戻していった。
「なんで立ち止まっていたの？ 結構、長かったよ、止まってたの」
「いや、足元に蟻が….. 」
「蟻？」
香奈は目を剥いて訊ねた。
「いや、アイスクリームが落ちていて、蟻が群がっていて、こんなにいっぱい持って帰るのかなーって」
香奈は口を硬く結び直してから、窓の外を眺め、コーヒーを飲んだ。コーヒーの熱とは別に冷めた視線だった。
シュンは、気づかれぬよう香奈の薬指を見た。指輪はなかった。が、彼はいるかもしれない。付き合ってるジャスティンビーバーばりの白人男性が香奈の部屋で、パスタを茹でて待ってるかもしれない。次々襲ってくる妄想にシュンは、香奈に気づかれぬよう、うめいていた。
「で、シュンはいつ帰るの？」
「え？」
「いつ帰るの？ 次は。日本に」
「あれ？ そういえば聞いてないな。俺、いつ帰ってくるんだろ」
「シュン、大丈夫？」
香奈は、自分ごとのように肩を落とした。それからいった。
「っていうことは、たぶん、無期限の可能性が高いね。一年二年じゃ帰れないよ、きっと」
シュンは、コーヒーを啜りながら、胸の内で、俺は日本に帰れないんだ、と呟いた。
口元に軽い笑みを浮かべた香奈は、ぼんやりしてうなだれているシュンにいった。
「見せて、シュン。４年間何をしていたのか。私に」
「たいしたことやってないよ、俺は。行き当たりばったりで」
香奈は、しばらく黙って俯いた。そしていった。
「私に、彼がいるかどうか、聞かないの？」
シュンは、窓の外に目を移した。さっきまで夏の陽光で明るかった風景が、霞んで見えた。すりガラスの向こうに見える七月の夕暮れのようだった。風景は遠くなり、音もなく滲んで、消え去ってゆくー
ふいに視界が暗くなった。音も消えて、暗闇に落ちたようだった。鼻先で香奈の髪が踊っている。シュンの唇にはやわらかい温もりがあった。
離れて、香奈は、外の景色を再び眺めた。静かな横顔だった。
「蟻なんて言わないで。もうそんなこと言わないで。シュン、ラインだって繋がっていたのに４年間ずっとそのままだったよ。わたし、シュンを忘れたことなんて一度もなかったよ。それはこれからもだよ。ずっと、ずっとだよ」
大きな雲が去ったのか、窓の外からシュンの足元に光が差し込んできた。
シュンは、窓の外を眺めた。
眩い夏の光がそこには溢れ、輝いていた。

Melting snow and ice mixed with fresh moss and grasses at base of highly textured lichen covered tree trunk.
The base was originally built via contract awarded December 5, 1933; most of the buildings were complete by late 1934. Captain Howard B. Nurse, Construction Quartermaster, supervised the design and construction. He departed from traditional base design by rendering the buildings in the Spanish Eclectic (Spanish Revival) style then popular in California. Churrigueresque elements adorn the more important buildings. Reinforced concrete walls were covered in stucco to appear similar to earlier California missions; mission tile roofs topped the buildings. Recessed porches, cantilevered balconies, polychrome tile bands and wrought iron grillework complement the designs.

Displaying at the Little Gransden Airshow 2011. During WW2 405 Squadron were based at nearby Gransden Lodge and flew Lancasters as part of 8 Pathfinder Group. The Church of St Bartholomew at Great Gransden has a stained glass window to commemorate those who served with 405 Squadron during the war.
Former London based Volvo B9TL / Wright Eclipse Gemini 2, number 1040 (LXZ 5427) strolls into the hospital of St John's, near to Livingston and it's good to observe a slight increase in passenger numbers on the new West Lothian routes.

What a simplistic-yet-amazing airplane. The "57" in the tail number stands for the year "1957"...think about that. And then realize these planes are still flying today.
I enjoyed my time flying this old bird despite its flaws (like lack of A/C on the ground). And I always loved the look of the perfectly-rounded CFM-56s; they just looked so good (as opposed to the squished bottoms of what you find on 737s). Sure, it meant scraping the pods on takeoff or landing was a constant threat, but I never scraped one during my tenure flying the real tanker!
As the saying goes and like I like to remind my fighter pilot brethren: NKAWTG...N!

Scott Air Force Base (IATA: BLV, ICAO: KBLV, FAA LID: BLV) is a United States Air Force base in St. Clair County, Illinois, near Belleville and O'Fallon, 17 miles east-southeast of downtown St. Louis. Scott Field was one of thirty-two Air Service training camps established after the United States entered World War I in April 1917. It is headquarters of Air Mobility Command (AMC), and is also the headquarters of the U.S. Transportation Command, a Unified Combatant Command that coordinates transportation across all the services.
The base is operated by the 375th Air Mobility Wing (375 AMW) and is also home to the Air Force Reserve Command's 932d Airlift Wing (932 AW) and the Illinois Air National Guard's 126th Air Refueling Wing (126 ARW), the latter two units being operationally gained by AMC.
The base currently employs 13,000 people, 5,100 civilians with 5,500 active-duty Air Force, and an additional 2,400 Air National Guard and Reserve personnel. It was announced in June 2014 that two new cybersecurity squadrons will be added to the three currently on base.
Its airfield is also used by civilian aircraft, with civilian operations at the base referring to the facility as MidAmerica St. Louis Airport. MidAmerica has operated as a Joint Use Airport since beginning operations in November 1997. Allegiant Air, the only commercial airline with scheduled flights at the airport, pulled out of the airport on January 3, 2009, but now has multiple nonstop destinations.

Based on the exhaust up at the front of the Shasta Daylight, the Alcos on the point of SP train 10 are working hard in the Sacramento River Canyon. The engineer must be attempting to make up some time before the next station stop at Dunsmuir, California.
Not buying that? I wouldn't either. However, it was fun to dream that there was an A-B-A set of Alco PAs on the point of the Louisiana Worlds Fair Daylight as it curved along the Sacramento River. It may have been June 1984, but at times the views could have been seen three decades earlier.
