This is what summer days at the lake in Northern Michigan should be all about.

No committee meetings.

No schedules.

No email.

No report writing.

No telephone calls.

No boss.

No cranky customers.

Just relax and be with your daydreams.

We are quite certain, however, that Oliver could win an event on a fence if he had to!

smiling in a sea of canola

Meet my travel companions from a weekend getaway this past summer to Riding Mountain National Park. While stopped to take the previous post of the canola field against the prairie sky - I had my friend and her son go into the field for a portrait for this years Christmas card. It's probably too bright and cheery for Christmas but I'll let them decide.

A vibrant street photograph bursting with colour, taken outside a café in Sheffield. A woman with striking red hair, wearing a green top and flared jeans, stands with her back to the camera while her companion — a man in an orange shirt and baseball cap — sits at one of the bold yellow metal café tables scrolling through his phone. A small pink cowboy hat sits incongruously on the table beside him, adding a playful splash of colour to the scene. Warm sunlight cuts across the pavement, throwing deep shadows that heighten the richness of the colours.

from a padres game a week ago...kinda liked it

Robert was on the southeast corner of LaSalle and Ontario, sitting on a plastic crate with a sign. He was more than willing to talk and was so engaging that he was the first person that I completely forgot to photograph (so I had to walk back seven blocks to see him again). He told me he was part Mexican, Puerto Rican, and German. When I first walked up to him, I introduced myself and then asked him his name and he said "Hurt...I'm Hurt". Then he told me he was depressed because he went to a fast food restaurant and they wouldn't serve him. "I cried a little", he said. He said he does have a place to stay, but he comes out here so he can make a little money. He said it's very important to take steps forward. "If you keep doing the same sh*t, you'll stay in the same sh*t. He said "I can talk--I can dance", at which time he did a little jig. He was animated, friendly, and entertaining.
