A couple of people sit at outside tables behind a bicycle rack, Bologna.
This photograph captures the comfortable yet ssometimes-cruffy character that we saw in Bologna. A couple of people sit at outside tables located under on of the ubiquitous porticos, between old, weathered columns. Racks hold bicycles, also common here, and an impromptu string of lights is ready for the evening hours.
Some Italian cities that we’ve visited, especially some smaller ones, have a sort of quaint charm. Others, perhaps like Milano, can present a kind of sophistication. In others, like Florence, history seems to be at the forefront. To me, Bologna feels a bit more rough-edged and unpretentious, but in an altogether pleasing way.

A small bar on a Gent square, built against a church, in what appears to be a greenhouse. The neon lights on and around the building have an interesting vibe, especially in the wet weather conditions.

Bar-tailed Godwits are the world record holders for non-stop flight: they have been recorded travelling 11,000km from Alaska to New Zealand in only 8 days, flying at an average of more than 50km/h. This journey is also a fantastic weight-loss program, as the birds lose almost half of their body weight along the way. Luckily, once they arrive in Australia, our mudflats are waiting, filled with tasty morsels to help them recuperate.
Pecan pie bars with a shortbread crust. It tastes like a pecan pie without the gooey center. We all know that you eat the topping and leave the pie part for your aunt. Ha ha
Bar-headed geese have to reach extreme heights when they migrate over the Himalayas. To be able to do this, the species is physiologically and biochemically adapted to flying at altitudes where oxygen levels and temperatures are both extremely low.
Did you know?
Bar-headed geese can fly higher than Mount Everest making them the world's highest flying birds.
Finally made it out to a hotel wine bar, Larry was happy to ply me with drinks, so who am I to complain.
We spent the evening chatting and naturally after the3rd glass of wine I began to bemoan that I'd spent so much of my life hiding Joanna.
Larry kindly pointed out I've got plenty of life left so why not throw caution to the wind and just 'go for it'. Strangely this came after I told him I owned a red vinyl dress that I've only worn outside the once.
Larry's a decent amateur photographer so he's now promised if I wear the dress, he'll take some stylish photo's. It will have to wait till I come back from Berlin though.
