The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, or Ballard Locks, is a complex of locks at the west end of Salmon Bay in Seattle, Washington's Lake Washington Ship Canal, between the neighborhoods of Ballard to the north and Magnolia to the south.[2]: 2 [3][4]: 6

The Ballard Locks carry more boat traffic than any other lock in the U.S., and the locks, along with the fish ladder and the surrounding Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Gardens, attract more than one million visitors annually, making it one of Seattle's top tourist attractions.

Note: This reminds me of the Panama Canal we toured in 2010, of course, it's a much larger scale.

We were each other’s sanctuary and he, my soulmate. King of my heart.

Held captive by your powerful loving gaze the first moment our eyes met over 17 years ago, you made me your soulmate sealing the deal with the kitty-kiss. This was our love language from the first day together up to your final moments. I will always treasure, yet yearn for these gifts. Embedded deep within my heart, your unending love will remain the light that will forever brightly shine. Your worldly kingdom so loved you for thousand fold. If only love alone could’ve saved you, you would’ve lived… forever. I’ve never known a tender love like yours, my beloved Kieran.

But my sorrow has grown more intense now that you’ve joined your brother, Romeo in a new kingdom at Rainbow Bridge who proceeded before you four months ago. My grief, albeit inconsolable, is the price paid in exchange for dearly loving you. Yet, it will be a constant reminder of our unbreakable loving bond that even death can never separate.

May you and Romeo be my angels to guide and comfort me on this journey I’m about to traverse onward without you. You’re forever in our hearts, my beloved King Kieran. #LongRestTheKing

Today we celebrate Hoya’s 18th birthday.

During his month-long sojourn with us this past May, he became friends with Romeo. Two Bengal boys who serenaded one another with their heart-filled melancholy melodies; a memory to forever treasure. He even had an adventurous spring day outing. Doesn’t he look so wildly stunning here amongst the daisies.

But 16 years ago his story was sadly so different. Hoya’s former family couldn’t deal with his vicious biting after being declawed. I had offered to help retrain him, but learned that they really didn’t want him so I adopted him. He was terribly afraid of hands and feet, which took me months to retrain to regain his trust. Unfortunately, he was not cat friendly either no matter the great measures I had taken to integrate him with Romeo and Kieran. But our family friends (who had never owned a cat before) were willing to foster and then subsequently adopt Hoya since he got along with their sweet West Highland terrier. A wonderful alternative so I could always continue visit with him.

Lately he’s been battling gastrointestinal lymphoma and congestive heart failure for the past 18 months. Despite it all Hoya’s still a happy little purr-bug who loves being cuddled and sharing lap time.

Happy birthday Hoya! May this year bring you countless days of pure love and joy.

a shot from a particularly important morning one decade ago. this morning genuinely marked a return to shooting again for me, and was the birthday of a close friend. I posted a number of shots from this morning and a few are here on flickr at the very beginning of my stream. this one was never posted.... so it's fitting. here's to a crazy decade.

While shooting some pictures for saxophonist, Steve Treseler, this little boy, Isaac, decided he wanted to see what was going on.

Celebration of Keanu's first birthday.

Sitting at the Fisherman's Terminal in Seattle, this old fishing boat (apparently named Scorpio) has definitely seen finer days.

As soon as I came upon this scene, I wanted to show off the blue in the clouds and silver tones in the water to give the photo an old washed-out look.
