We covered about 12.3 miles with our newest scouts backpacking on their first campout with the troop. New and old did a great job!
I invested in a few new backpacking bags, but needed a storage solution. There are fancy backpack hangers you can buy, but I figured I could make something out of supplies I have on hand.
Version 2 worked, is much better. Made with scrap PVC and heavy gauge wire.
After waking up at beautiful Lake Katherine, we packed up camp and headed over Windy Pass to camp our second night below Puerto Nambe.
Backpacking 7/16-7/19 in the Olympics. Started at the Graves Creek trailhead on the Quinalt River, and got up to Enchanted Valley.
Ever since I was a kid I dreamt of taking a backpacking trip where I’d primitive camp. I think the NCT Hike 100 Challenge really helped in finally making it happen. I was able to spend my first night in the woods while hiking the NCT and shared that special moment with my brother and nephew. I’ve often felt like I haven’t accomplished much in my life. I wasn’t sure that I could finish this either but I really wanted to try. Working out the logistics of driving out to the trail, figuring out childcare and sometimes dealing with knee pain after some of the longer hikes made it more of a challenge but it was totally worth it! I always feel so alive and at peace in the woods. Going to the woods feels like going home. As I took my last steps on my 100th mile I can’t explain how satisfying it felt. I did it! I’m hoping that whenever I see my patch I’ll remember the satisfaction and be brave enough to try more things. Thank you for the opportunity to make these memories. I'll be back next year!
The event is called Backpack to Briefcase, which took place on Tuesday, April 14th in Latham Hall. This event was for graduating seniors to teach them about the world after college with topics including buying a car, 401ks, banking, buying a house, etc. Student walked around from table to table and spoke to each representative for about 10-15 minutes. Backpack to Briefcase was sponsored by Widener University's Career Services.

Bought a backpack this weekend for my trip to the Enchantments (if we get a permit in the lottery...). Its a Baltoro 70 by Gregory. 70 as in 70 liters of space. Hopefully that is enough. Hopefully I can carry that much weight in the mountains at a high altitude.
