Yet another test shot with a textured background and the nasty tool rack object. Also a torn gown, because as you know sinister fiends are often careless with evening wear. This looks better than the previous tests; the focus seems consistent, and the relatively simple background serves its purpose. This is an unretouched photo from Second Life; next, I'll show you how I plan to give the final product a pulp magazine cover feel with some manipulation inside PaintShop.
I wanted to try the Distress Ink background I saw recently on Jennifer McGuire's website and someone else mentioned the technique.
So... you ink up the paper by putting the ink pad directly to the paper. I used two of the Distress Ink mini pads (Abandoned Coral & Candied Apples) and it blended together fairly nice.
What is hard to see is that I put the Hero Arts stencil Swirl over the ink and sprayed over it with gold Perfect Pearls. Then you blot the water off a little with paper towels. It should lighten up and show the stencil pattern. It didn't show up as much as I would have liked nor did it photograph very well but it is there.
The greeting is cut out of the fantastic American Crafts glitter paper with a Simon Says Stamp die called Painted Happy Birthday (SSSD111559). I like that the sentiment is a little bigger than some.

The acetate card is stamped with the Florentine Scroll Background with Blue Staz-On. Cut out three circles out of dark brown, blue & white paper with the circular coluzzle template. Stamp the real Cornflower and Three jems stamps with Pearlescent Sky blue and Mediteranean Blue Brilliance inks and stamp them on the white circle. Stamp the same two stamps over the stamped images with a glue pad and add clear glitter. Stipple some Coffee Bean Brilliamce ink onto the circle to age it. Attach all three circles to the acetate card. Stamp the Alphabet Blocks alphabe words in the same four previously used inks. Cut them out and attach them to the acetate card. Stamp the Gratitude stamp on small tags with coffee bean ink, and attach a small piece of brown ribbon with a staple. Attach it to the acetate card with foam tape. Stamp two of the holiday birds with black Versafine ink onto watercolor paper. Color them with watercolor pencils. Attach them to the card with foam tape. Make two of everything to attach to the back so you don't see the adhesive. All stamps Hero Arts.

I spent an evening in studio the day before yesterday. This was an exposure test for white on white high-key shots against a white seamless background. It's definitely nice to have access to studio with proper backgrounds, as the space in my home "studio" (read: kitchen/livingroom) is quite limited. And I like those big(ger) strobes :)
Lighting: 2 Elinchrom D-lite 2's with small softbox for background on both sides, 1 D-lite 4 with 150x75cm softbox as key light from camera left.
