Well, spent a few hours copying and pasting photos together to create backgrounds for Tol Galen today.

I have 2 monitors, so using a single photo didn't scale well so I created a set of 9 backgrounds (one for each virtual desktop) by copying and pasting image 2 images together with correct proportions so that there's one on each monitor.

I'm rather happy with the results. (Although some people would probably complain about the lack of common theme in the images.)

This handy fence helped to hide the modern building works on the right hand side of this scene.

Compositionally Challenged week 49 is Break the Rules. I broke the rules by zooming during a slow exposure. A sunbeam caught put the spotlight on a Pieris Forest Flame twig and the background was in shadow. To get the shot, I had to use a 0.9 neutral density filter to prevent over-exposure. Shutter speed set at 1/8 second, ISO 100.

It's the Sixties Swirl texture created in the Filter Forge plugin. It can be seamless tiled and rendered in any resolution without loosing details.

You can see the presets and download this texture for free on the Filter Forge site here — www.filterforge.com/filters/8769.html (created by Kochubey)

With Beinn Dorain in the background, the considerable challenge of the entire Horseshoe Curve (between Bridge of Orchy and Upper Tyndrum) is clearly shown, as Ian Riley's LMS Class 5MT 'Black Five' 4-6-0 No. 45407 'The Lancashire Fusilier' continues to work hard, crossing the second of its two viaducts, on one of the runpasts at this location during the West Coast Railway's West Highland Steam Photo charter on 19th October, 2013.

I got a new toy this week.... a splatter gun. It's a Stampin' Up! tool that is an air pump thingie that you use with your markers. I used a variety of Tombow markers, some Smiggles markers and even a couple of Copics! I then distressed round the edge with some Picked Raspberry distress. I also used the same ink to stamp my sentiment. I used some washi tape ~ used one of the Hero Arts Sketches.

Why is this larger than the resolution of the Phone/iPad/Tablet?

It is recommend that wallpaper be created as a square image, larger than the resolution of a device (iPad is 2048x2048) so that the image is not stretched/distorted when rotating the device into portrait or landscape.

How did you make it?

This background was made using graphic design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Filter Forge, Genetica, Alien Skin, Topaz Labs, as well as several other programs.

Resting against the background of Leeds on Saturday was my good friends fantastic Optare Vecta.

I was initially picked up by a certain former Black Prince stelwart before we headed out to cruise around in 73.

A lot of work has taken place on the ol' girl, from a thorough polish to oily mechanical work!

She is now seen carrying freshly applied Black Prince fleet names on her immaculate paintwork.
