How do I get this onto my iPhone?
There are a number of ways to do this, however I think the easiest and fastest way is to download Flickr’s free app. Within the Flickr app you surf over to my photo feed to view the images (if you make me a contact then I’ll appear in the flickr contact list). When you find one you like, just click the download button and save the image directly to your phone. Quick & Simple!
I don’t have an iPhone. Can I still use it on my phone?
As of this writing this image (960 x 640) should be large enough to be used as wallpaper with the Droid / Android, BlackBerry, Windows 7, and iPhone.
How did you make it?
This background was made using graphic design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Filter Forge, Genetica, Wacom, Alien Skin, Topaz Labs, as well as several other programs.

A coastal brown bear (or grizzly) wades through tidal pools on the beach at Lake Clark National Park & Preserve on Alaska's Cook Inlet. She anticipates a savory meal of salmon as the tide continues to recede. Mt. Douglas looms in the background. It is easily visible on this this bright and clear summer morning despite being well over 60 miles away. It is a time when bears are likely happiest, with full stomachs and cooler weather. Humans need to balance the need for fossil fuels with that of preserving some of nature's finest treasures. If we are not careful, future generations will only be able to see sights like these in books.

Paper: Hexagon with an edge length of ca. 7cm, swimming paper
Grid: 12 triangles
Model: Alessandro Beber
Book: Origami New Worlds p. 36-48
After having folded two of Alessandro's Tessellations, I decided to do the background exercises nonetheless, because he presents two ways to fold them, which may come handy, when folding larger pie es. Being a bit lazy I restricted myself to a 12th grid, but tested out a new paper. Its meant for folding ships that actually can swim, very thin, it felt like being well suited for tessellation. It certainly was! Both ways to fold the background involve pushing triangle vertices to the other side and the paper made that easy just as with EH. Good it was a package with like 25 or more sheets 😀
Now onto a comparison: the second way was not as straightforward to fold for me, you can easily guess which one it is in the picture. It involes more vertices to be pushed through too. But I suppose depending on the pattern folded onto the background, it will be easier to use this version sometimes. When I sorted out how to fold the background by myself (when foding from the Origami Deutschland Convention book), I pushed all vertices to the back while folding , which was o.k. too, but not as neat and a bit slower too, I guess.

I might do a step-by-step for this, but it's pretty easy.
Make sure you have a white (or other plain background) image handy. You can make one in PicMonkey if you don't by taking one of the sample photos and putting a big white rectangle (from the overlays tool) over it and saving it.
Now, open your photo, go to Textures, choose "Upload your own" and add your white background image. Set blend mode to "normal" but keep the fade at about 30% so you can see through it. Then use the paintbrush to 'erase' the white from the subject (ie., paint in the 'original'). You can put the fade to 0% every once in a while to check how it looks. When you're happy, save it.
Who needs a light tent? :)
