West Coast Railways 33 207 'Jim Martin' (Formerly 'Earl Mountbatten of Burma') brings up the rear of a steam charter passing through Vauxhall. It's been a long time since I've seen/got a shot or posted a shot of a 33. So when the WCRC Diesel on the backend of this Southern steam special turned out to be a 33 I was quite pleased!
33 207 (built 1962) was one of the small batch of Class 33 'Cromptons' known as 'Slim Jims' because of the narrower profile (by 7 inches) over the standard Class 33. This enabled them to work the tight tunnel clearances on the Hastings route.
Saturday, 30th October 1993 was the last night that West Midlands Travel operated services from their Cleveland Road Garage in Wolverhampton, As of the 1st November 1993, all operations were transfered to other garages, but with the majorty of services going to the sister garage in Park Lane, Fallings Park, Wolverhampton.
The picture shows hoards of Metrobuses that have come off service that evening and await transfer to Park Lane Garage. Along the back row are 2489, 2498, 2266, 2778 and 3092. The photo pre-dates the Metrobus MK2 rebuilds at Marshalls of Cambridge, and therefore they still have their original unrebuilt backends, complete with oversized rear lower saloon windows.
Today, the bus garage still stands, but is used as a covered car park, so access it still possible.

While looking for thrips on the Black-eyed Susan flowers planted under our mailbox, I accidently collected a tiny (0.4mm) mite belonging to the Order Mesostigmata -- Family Phytoseiidae. At first, I thought I was dealing with a mite in the family Ascidae based on the shape of the Genito-Ventral and Anal Plates (see insert at lower right). But a closer look showed too many dorsal shield setae and the wrong number of teeth on the cheliceral digit (see insert at upper left). The mite family Phytoseiidae was a much better fit.
There are over 1,800 described species of Phytoseiidae mites and plenty yet to be named. Most are free living and feed on a wide variety of plant material and small arthropods. Much of the interest in this mite family is due to several of the species having potential to become biological control agents. The taxonomy of Phytoseiidae mites is best left to the specialists. It is far beyond me to even attempt a generic level identification.

An old Bedford ambulance follows PMT 977, a 1964 AEC Reliance saloon up Old Hall Street, Stoke-on-Trent on 8th March 1978. Disappearing into Lichfield Street, presumably making its way to the Towns' bus station is the backend of one of PMT's low-height Bristol VR buses. To the left of 977, on the junction of Old Hall Street and Tontine Street, is the Waggon & Horses pub (now called Tigers?), which still stands to this day, although the ground floor windows look to have been heavily modified.

Whilst filming beside the chicane at the annual “Watergate Bay Speed Hillclimb” near Newquay, Cornwall, this Subaru WRX entered the chicane too quick, lost the backend and climbed the embankment where I was filming, it then rolled, landing on its roof. Fortunately the driver was unhurt, which is more than can be said for the Subaru!

One well hidden away in the backend of my photographs of Tasmania and recently pulled out and processed for a project I'm working on currently. Don't want to reveal too much yet as it's still in its early stages, but hopefully soon, its very exciting.
Strahan
Strahan (pronounced "straw-n"), is a small town and former port on the west coast of Tasmania, Australia. It is now a significant locality for tourism in the region. Strahan Harbour and Risby Cove form part of the north-east end of Long Bay on the northern end of Macquarie Harbour. At the 2006 census, Strahan had a population of 637.
Originally developed as a port of access for the mining settlements in the area, Strahan was a vital location for the timber industry that existed around Macquarie Harbour. For a substantial part of the nineteenth century and early twentieth century it also was port for regular shipping of passengers and cargo. The Strahan Marine Board was an important authority dealing with the issues of the port and Macquarie Harbour up until the end of the twentieth century when it was absorbed into the Hobart Marine Board.

Shown above is a 1954 Ford Customline 2-Door Ranch Wagon that has been converted to a 1954 Mercury 2-Door Station Wagon. During the 1954 model year, Mercury only offered a 4-Door wagon as part of its Monterey line. The rear quarter panels, doors. fenders, and interior on this conversion are off a 1954 Mercury 2-door sedan. The wood grain is custom painted. This "one of a kind" wagon is a real beauty!

He bought this car in spring 1984 and junked it sometime in 1990 seen parked where he worked and just retired then after 39 years at the New York telephone company service area in Kingston NY.

I'm not 100% sure that the title above is correct, I seem to recall the letters "PI" somewhere along the line.
Anyhow, this was the second interesting item to appear on my "looking for interesting stuff" toe, finger (and mind) numbing cycle tour today.
Following this, I only saw a women hanging a dead fox up on a washing line, a man stuck upside down on a telegraph pole and a rabbit chasing a Reliant Robin....hardly newsworthy !
Getting back to the Triumph, as a kid I always liked these with their sexy backends and sleak looks....then they were gone :-(
Firstly, happy mothers day to all you mothers out there.
Gypsy and I (aka Team "Whirlwind") headed off to our first ever outdoor agility competition early this morning. Clicky for an exclusive video! I don't often share videos! & we totaled two jumps at the start! I think we'll be working on general fitness and backend awareness this month... We also went into practice ring before we left and she did a lovely A frame. Always proud of my Whirlwind.
We found this little bridge whilst exploring around my grandparents house. Really nice and different to the other bridge that I photographed for last years project.
