And in my garden, perched high on one of the Silver Birches!

It being a really dull grey day I*ve had to tweak the highlights and shadows somewhat, thus bleaching out everything else, just about! I took this shot through the window but he left anyway, soon as my focus light flashed!

Just got back from a glorioulsly sunny week in Venice which was a double celebration - a belated one for my 50th birthday and helping a friend celebrate hers.

Been *way* too long since I was back in Texas. Good to be back "home". First time for the boys to make it back to the home of 1/2 their heritage as well, so a very important trip for them.

Non-HDR shot taken on Congress Bridge crossing Lake Austin on the downtown side at sunset (went there to watch the Austin Congress Bridge Bats). Would've been better to shoot this on the other side, but all the bats were on *this* side of the bridge :-(

It's sunsets like this that make me miss Texas that much more, as this is pretty much what you get every day here.

Bateman Island, Benton County, WA. 2-13-16.

A considerate Slaty-backed cleaning the marina roof gutters. This photo shows the wide white trailing edge to the wings as well as the "string of pearls" running down the wingtips. This Slaty appears to be the same bird which was at Lower Monumental Dam (seen 1-8 to 1-11), the first record for Eastern Washington. Accepted by the WBRC.

ID Marks:

Wide white trailing edge to the wings,

String of pearls, unlike in Western or hybrids,

Somewhat light eye,

Light streaking on the head/neck region is fine because Slaty-backed Gulls are really variable (like the one at Gog-Le-Hi-Te Wetlands in Tacoma) and this bird's streaking was more evident in the field than in this photo,

Legs are very deep pink, Westerns have lighter pink feet,

Smudging around eye gives gull "eyebrowed" look,

Darker mantle than surrounding California Gulls (As dark as Lesser Black-backed Gull, also present). The Northern populations of Westerns have similar mantle shade to California, thus would also have lighter mantle shade than Slaty-backed.

Books are indeed in the actionway instead of being in an aisle.

The above image was taken on Saturday 13th October 2012 during the Scott Kelby World Wide photo walk. This is a yearly event that is globally organised by Scott Kelby and his crew. I definitely recommend walking on Rainbow Bridge to both direction on different time of day. For instance, the city looks amazing with million lights and dozens of tall building

Quirky to our tastes, but fun, and this model had many working parts, so in was a challenge to try and spot them all.
