Another of my finds from yesterday's drive down some unknown back roads. This is in the Dickson Dam area in central Alberta.
I am usually less than satisfied with the results I get when using back-lighting in photos but this one I kinda liked. The feather detail and textures in the feet are visible but there is still the golden highlight from the background sun. Any thoughts, comment, suggestions for future reference are welcomed.
Something a little different from yesterday's mini gala at the GCR. Taken from the shadow side of the line at Quorn, 48624 is the centre of attention as it leaves with a train for Leicester North.
I created this image in London a couple of weeks back and feels like the perfect post for how I feel today, getting ready to go back to work.
Its been a fab week off but please.... hurry up weekend!

Whixhal Moss nature reserve - I got really lucky with this one, after spending an hour or two trying in vain to get a decent shot. It was when i was on my way back to the car when the bird popped through the hedge just a few feet away, for a few seconds before turning back through to the other side of the hedge. A great experience and a new life tick.
And they are in the same place. After I left the Americana I crossed the street and photographed this display, as I do every year. I really don't care for such harsh sunlight as my key for subjects like this, but I wasn't sure when I'd be back over there. A little tweaking on Lightroom and Photoshop Express helped reduce the harshness of the original photo. I prefer to get subjects like this at magic hour, or even later. This Samsung phone has a great sensor for low light photography and video.
And you also see my shadow at the lower right, which I don't like to have in there either.
I've been posting a lot of pictures from California lately, but I now live in beautiful Colorado. Expect more images of these mountains in the future. This is from the top of Breckenridge Ski Resort, a favorite of mine growing up. It feels good to be back on the slopes!

The Green Block on Lexington Avenue in Elkhart, Indiana has a back door that is just amazing. It is my impression that this was taken from an old Victorian mansion that was torn down a while back and put in the Italianate style Green Block, otherwise known as the Smith Frye Building. Built in 1895, the building is part of the Elkhart Downtown Historic Commercial District:

The yellow brick is typical of that seen in Nineteenth century buildings in Elkhart and is known as "Chicago Common brick." I am not sure if this is the same as "Cream City brick" from Wisconsin but I have been told that it made its way as far as Elkhart but does not appear very often east of there in Goshen, IN.
I have a thing for Ferris Wheels. Fortunately, they are around only for two weeks every year during State Fair. Otherwise I don't know if I would be able to stay away from posting a Ferris Wheel picture every other day. Right now I have only a couple more sitting on my hard drive, so there is no such danger. Also I realize this image has the same problem as the one I uploaded yesterday - it could easily be in both Cliche group and Sliders. But because it is so shamelessly "slid", I think Sliders Sunday should be its home. HSS everyone!
