Lance Cpl. Hector DeJesus falls while he releases a turkey he was using for Turkey Bowling to help promote the 2011 Commissary Awareness Tour Sept. 26. Marines played multiple games for prizes and there was a drawing for door prizes that ranged from iPods to grills. The event informed Marines and Sailors aboard the air station about benefits available at the commissary.

On a very warm June afternoon, residents of Plainfield, a southwest suburb of Chicago, and surrounding locales joined together for a short march to celebrate Juneteenth and to raise their collective voice against what they perceived as racial injustice. The march began at Plainfield Central High School and tracked near the downtown area before gathering in Settlers Park next to the village hall. Once there, the remaining hour was spent in listening and reflection upon the words of people from the community, a religious leader, and local musicians. According to my best estimate, well over 300 people showed up, many with their families and young children.

HUMPHREYS GARRISON — In an effort to educate Soldiers throughout the Humphreys Garrison about the workings of Better Opportunities for Single (and Unaccompanied) Soldiers, the first BOSS Awareness Day was held, May 21, in the area behind the Super Gym. Sporting events, games, prizes and food were the highlights of the day, but the main purpose of the event was to raise awareness of the BOSS program and what it does to improve the quality of life for Soldiers. Competing in events such as Oversized Boxing (above) were Spc. Stephanie Mason and Pvt. Tyler Hutchison, assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3-2 General Support Aviation Battalion and Pfc. DeSean Anderson, of Bravo Company, 602nd Aviation Support Battalion, riding the mechanical bull (right above). At the registration table, attendees could sign up for the “I A.M. A Boss Buddy,” program, where Soldiers volunteer on Friday and Saturday nights of payday weekends, from 11:30 p.m. to 4 a.m., to make sure nobody walks home alone. They were joined by the local Army Substance Abuse Program and the United Service Organizations, which provided various giveaways. The ASAP folks also brought along the “Fatal Vision” goggles (bottom right) for Soldiers to use while riding tricycles through an obstacle course.

The Big Five: Elephants. Kruger Park. South Africa. Dec/2018

Elephants are large mammals of the family Elephantidae and the order Proboscidea. Three species are currently recognised: the African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana), the African forest elephant (L. cyclotis), and the Asian elephant (Elephas maximus). Elephants are scattered throughout sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Elephantidae is the only surviving family of the order Proboscidea; other, now extinct, members of the order include deinotheres, gomphotheres, mammoths, and mastodons.

All elephants have several distinctive features, the most notable of which is a long trunk (also called a proboscis), used for many purposes, particularly breathing, lifting water, and grasping objects. Their incisors grow into tusks, which can serve as weapons and as tools for moving objects and digging. Elephants' large ear flaps help to control their body temperature. Their pillar-like legs can carry their great weight. African elephants have larger ears and concave backs while Asian elephants have smaller ears and convex or level backs.

Elephants are herbivorous and can be found in different habitats including savannahs, forests, deserts, and marshes. They prefer to stay near water. They are considered to be a keystone species due to their impact on their environments. Other animals tend to keep their distance from elephants while predators, such as lions, tigers, hyenas, and any wild dogs, usually target only young elephants (or "calves"). Elephants have a fission–fusion society in which multiple family groups come together to socialise. Females ("cows") tend to live in family groups, which can consist of one female with her calves or several related females with offspring. The groups are led by an individual known as the matriarch, often the oldest cow.

Males ("bulls") leave their family groups when they reach puberty and may live alone or with other males. Adult bulls mostly interact with family groups when looking for a mate and enter a state of increased testosterone and aggression known as musth, which helps them gain dominance and reproductive success. Calves are the centre of attention in their family groups and rely on their mothers for as long as three years. Elephants can live up to 70 years in the wild. They communicate by touch, sight, smell, and sound; elephants use infrasound, and seismic communication over long distances. Elephant intelligence has been compared with that of primates and cetaceans. They appear to have self-awareness and show empathyfor dying or dead individuals of their kind.

Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It covers an area of around 20,000 square kilometres in the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga in northeastern South Africa, and extends 360 kilometres (220 mi) from north to south and 65 kilometres (40 mi) from east to west.

As the world is well aware, NATO is currently engaged in a massive war with India, as well as it's allies. This morning another major part in the war played out, with the NRI invading a large military bunker protecting Bangalore. The assault begun in the early morning, while the fort was still fairly dormant. Within a couple hours, the casualties ranked in the hundreds, mainly on the side of the UEMF (United Egyptian Military Forces) and the UNI (United Nation of India), due to the fact they were unprepared for a full out war. By the end of the day the fort was in the control of the NRI, along with the massive city of Bangalore. Seen here, we can see a small portion of the NRI breaking into a section of the fort. As always, updates will follow as the events progress.

I have never, never ever, got anything useful out of using Photoshop's content-aware functions. For me those particular functions feel like a hoax. I never get perfect skies, nice extension to houses or any other result that looks intelligent. But the peculiarities of the content-aware gadgets seem to work like a charm.

That's why I did this.
