To celebrate World Autism Awareness Day, UNIC Dhaka together with Comilla Medical College and Bangladesh Protibondhi Foundation organized an event at Comilla Medical College, which included an art exhibition of works by autistic children and a seminar delivered by UNIC Officer-in-Charge. Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today urged West Virginia drivers to use hands-free devices while driving and commended the West Virginia Division of Highways for raising awareness of our state's new law which makes it a crime to text or talk on a hand-held cell phone while driving.
Students from George Washington High School attended the press conference and signed the Safe Driver's Pledge.
As part of the governor's "Drive. Hands-Free." public safety campaign, motorists traveling through the Mountain State today will now see the message "Drive. Hands-Free. Don't Text and Drive." on all interstate and turnpike message boards between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
"In a moment of distraction, life can change in an instant. Please, don't let your last words be a text," said Gov. Tomblin. "Young drivers, talk to your parents. And parents, talk to your kids. Sit down together and take my safe driver's pledge. Together, we will make our roads safer."
Gov. Tomblin's safe driver pledge is available at www.governor.wv.gov. West Virginia is one of many states using highway signs today to encourage cell phone users to make a lifelong commitment to safety by pledging to not text and drive.
"Texting and driving is a deadly combination and, thanks to the leadership of Governor Tomblin and the West Virginia Legislature, it is now against the law," said West Virginia Department of Transportation Secretary Paul Mattox. "We have been working diligently to remind the traveling public of its dangers in an effort to help curb this epidemic."
As of July 1, 2012 it is a primary driving offense to text while driving and a secondary driving offense to talk on a hand-held cell phone while driving in West Virginia. Beginning July 1, 2013, talking on a hand-held cell phone while driving becomes a primary offense-enabling police officers to pull you over and ticket you for the infraction.

The Second Annual Camp Humphreys Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run brought
together more than 500 community members at Zoeckler Gym Track, Oct. 19. The
event was hosted by the USAG Humphreys safety and the health promotion
offices and featured a two-hour walk/run dedicated to increasing breast
cancer awareness and honoring breast cancer victims and survivors. The event
included giveaways and face painting.
I will take a short break with the Tennis photos to post some of these I shot today on the Disability Awareness Day at UWF.
I think these people deserve some attention.
The ones with the Blue shirt are not disable at all, they are volunteers from the school and some of the basketball team that wanted to experience the dificulties these people have...

October 25, 2021 - Albany, NY - Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that New York State bridges and landmarks will be lit pink today, October 25, 2021, to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. "Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time to reflect on those who have lost their lives to Breast Cancer, as well as those left behind who are deeply impacted by the loss of their friend, colleague or loved one and recognize those who have beat breast cancer or are currently battling the disease," Governor Hochul said. "This month also serves as a crucial reminder to spread awareness and encourage our loved ones to schedule routine mammograms as well as personal breast exams. We know that early detection is key and while we recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, our efforts to increase awareness and support for fighters and survivors continues year-round." This is a suicide awareness poster I created emphasizing the statistic (taken from 2008 data) that every 15 minutes (actually every 14.6 minutes according to the data) an American commits suicide. I wanted to show this through a modified clock that only has the minute hand, second hand, and only 15 minutes. I did not receive permission from the organization named "SAVE." to put their name on this poster, but this was just an exercise like I was creating an awareness poster for them.
