A few pink roses to remind people of the importance of being aware of breast cancer

Happy Autism Awareness month to all Canadian Friends.

Beginning in late November 2015, a set of ARM equipment was deployed to the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, including basic radiometric, surface energy balance, and upper air equipment, directly to make the first well-calibrated climatological suite of measurements seen in this extremely remote, but globally critical, region in more than 40 years.

TheDiet Chronicles Documents an example of healthy eating or rather mindful eating. An idea of a way one "could" eat as a means to eat healthy and enjoy the process. As black belts and martial artist we are aware that Heart Disease is the number one cause of death among Americans and 1 out of 3 people will develop Type 2 Diabetes. It only makes sense then to make Healthy Eating a part of any self-defense program. Statistics show more people will be hurt by what's on their plate than they ever will be by a punch, kick, throw, or grappling match. Learning martial art techniques is important but where it stops the self-discipline of eating healthy and mindfully begins. Just an idea we explore and one that I ask my students to explore as well.

LFCC Community gathers for Breast Cancer Awareness, October 2018

"Feast! Music! Rally! DJs! Speakers! Art! ...More! Come on out to Oscar Grant Plaza and City Council Chambers to STOP THE DOMAIN AWARENESS CENTER (DAC) before it gets built!

"Oakland City Council keeps putting DAC last on their agenda, literally voting in the middle of the night when the meeting is packed at the start with people trying to speak on DAC. It's like a filibuster, and it's a scandal, but this time we're throwing a raging party outside the meeting, and it's going to be a great time.

We kick off about 6, and we can stay late. We'll pack the City Council meeting, whenever DAC gets called, and everyone is encouraged to speak and participate in the public process.

The Domain Awareness Center is a proposed massive police surveillance center for the city of Oakland to be financed by the Dept of Homeland Security.

We can stop it on Feb 4, if City Council has a backbone... "

The sculpture was designed by local artist Romany Mark Bruce. The entwined lovers echo the shape of the AIDS awareness ribbon.

Please be aware... I am no stamp expert. Posted titles here are either what I was told when acquiring these or are from a simple Google search. I make no claim as to them being 100% accurate but I make an effort to be as factual as I am able when posting. There may well be some duplication of type or variety, but I try not to double post any single items. My feeble brain may slip on that from time to time. These are all from my semi worthless collection from over the years. Little to no value exists in most (if not all) of them. They are just a hobby.

The Kelowna Chiefs Junior Hockey Club, and Kelowna Financial Planning Firm, the Peacock Sheridan Group, are excited to announce today their joint efforts to support an initiative of Kelowna Chief player Myles Mattila. The Kelowna Chiefs, together with Myles and his teammates, will be hosting 3 home games in support of Mental Health Awareness.

The first of three Kelowna Chief’s Mental Health Awareness Games, will take place on Oct. 21st, 2017. The first game will be in Memory of Ryan Donaldson, a former player in the KIJHL. Ryan’s parents and sister, Kirsten Donaldson, will be in attendance, along with supporters of Myles from Jack.org, the only national network of young leaders transforming the way we think about mental health. Money raised during the game will go towards helping develop local Youth Mental Wellness Programs.

Peacock Sheridan Group is proud to support this initiative and the efforts of Myles Mattila. Myles is an advocate for Mental Health awareness and is a young leader who is committed to creating positive changes in youth mental health, not only for his team and the KIJHL, but also for students and youth throughout our community and across the nation. We are very proud to participate in this event to help bring awareness to Mental Health.

We ask you to come out on October 21st with your families and friends to learn more and support this important cause.

Ryan Donaldson

Ryan was born on December 10th, 1996 in Langley BC.

He began playing roller hockey in 2001, at the age of 5, at the Langley Sportsplex. He continued with roller hockey until 2014. With roller hockey, Ryan participated in the BC summer games in 2010 and played for Team Canada inline in 2013.

In the spring of 2005 Ryan began his ice hockey career with the Langley Minor Hockey Association. He played for Langley minor, starting in Atom through to Bantam. Through minor hockey, Ryan suffered from multiple concussions, but, never presented at the time with any detrimental effects.

In 2011, Ryan was drafted to the Kelowna Rockets in the 5th round of the WHL Bantam Draft.

He played 5 games as a 14-year-old with the Rockets. He played again in the 2012 pre-season and was sent to the Sicamous Eagles for further development. He returned to the Rockets for preseason in 2013 and then was sent to Summerland for the first half of the season. He returned home in November 2013 due to concussions.

Upon his return home, there were several changes that Ryan’s family noticed in his personality and behaviour. Unfortunately, these changes were not addressed and in February of 2014 Ryan lost his battle with depression and took his own life.

Strongback

Year Created: 2006

Trash collected from: Iowa and English Rivers

What is it?

Aptly named Strongback (a "strongback" is a form from which canoes are built) this sculpture pays homage to hundreds of volunteers who used dozens of canoes to haul hundreds of tons of trash from Iowa rivers. Rebar canoes built from strongback forms can be found on the sculpture, with a paddle blade emerging from the center. Work gloves cast in aluminum depict the index, middle, and ring fingers in the shape of a "W," which is the American Sign Language word for "water."
