Little Yellow-Orange Underwings: Wingspans: 35-56mm - These tend to be slightly larger on average

Catocala micronympha, the Little Nymph Underwing, (wingspan: 35-50mm). John Himmelman image. Usual specimens have grey forewings shaded with green, brown, black and white tints. Usually a darkened band passing from costa through reniform spot to outer margin. High variability.

www.silkmoths.bizland.com/Floridacatocala.htm

Catocala micronympha, the Little Nymph Underwing, (wingspan: 35-50mm) flies from southern Ontario, Quebec (very rare) and Manitoba through New Hampshire and Connecticut and New Jersey to Florida, west to Texas and then north through Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, etc., to Wisconsin and Minnesota and then east to Michigan.

It has also been reported in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

The forewings are extremely variable and there are several forms denoted with no basal dash in any of them:

"gisela" Meyer has a forewing that is mostly black;

"hero" H. Edwards has a median area that is mostly white;

"sargenti" Covell (very rare) has a hindwing that is all black.

The usual specimens have grey forewings shaded with green, brown, black and white tints. There is usually a darkened band passing from the costa through the reniform spot to the outer margin.

The lower lobes of the pm line are quite distinct, especially in those specimens with light scaling in that area.

Image courtesy of John Himmelman, Connecticut, July 24, 2003.

The typical resting position for this moth is "head down".

Micronympha is also known as the "Little Bride" and as the "Tiny Nymph" Underwing.

Catocala micronympha are usually on the wing from July to September.

In Florida, there may be a flight as early as late April.

The Catocala micronympha caterpillar shows a preference for oak species.

Listed below are primary food plant(s) and alternate food plants. It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive, although some species seem very host specific. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.

Quercus macrocarpa.......

Quercus stellata

Quercus virginiana

Averaging Concepts Using Flickr - Take a concept, one word, and plug it into Flickr and take the first 50 images and average them using Photoshop.

Kingfish fight hard and dirty and reach 100lbs.

What is reddit, really?Don't think of reddit as one giant community. This site is made up of "sub"reddits, which are all their own communities. Every single post you see on this site belongs to its own community, with its own set of users, and with its own set of rules. reddit provides you an easy-to-use interface for managing what posts you see by letting you subscribe or unsubscribe from certain subreddits.By making an account, you are automatically subscribed to a set of "default" subreddits which are a set of highly popular communities that the administrators of this site feel would give the average person an interesting first experience.Don't like one or more of these default subreddits? Use the "unsubscribe" button on the sidebar, and start customizing your reddit front page! Find subreddits that interest you. Many subreddits feature lists of "similar subreddits" that will help you find other awesome places to subscribe to. Looking for a subreddit but you just don't know its name? Try /r/findareddit! Finally, try setting up a multi-reddit to categorize your subreddit list even further!Tips for your account.See and change your preferences. Customize how many comments show up, what kind of posts show up, and more!Verify your e-mail. If you don't do this and you lose your password, you will have no way to log back onto that account. Ever. Please do this!Karma is a point system that lets you know how your submissions or comments are doing. The more karma your post has, the more people have upvoted it. Generally a higher karma count on a post means that the community of that subreddit found your post valuable and interesting. Your karma is logged on your user page on the top right. Please note that self-posts earn you no karma. Only comments and link-posts do.What is the sidebar? The "sidebar" is the list of information pertaining to a specific subreddit. At the top you will find a link to submit a post and a link to search the subreddit. It also contains the link to "subscribe/unsubscribe" from that subreddit. Underneath that it generally lists the rules, guidelines, relevant information, similar subreddits, etc.Note: many mobile reddit apps require you to press a certain button for the sidebar to show up. Every subreddit has a sidebar. Please don't forget to look for it even if your app doesn't immediately show it! Here's an image showing where to find it on common reddit apps. You should always read the sidebar before submitting a post to any subreddit, and if you don't understand a rule message the moderators to ask. This ensures that your post stays on the subreddit, as rule-breaking posts will likely be removed.Have a question about a submission to a particular subreddit? Ask the moderators there! Here's an image that shows you where you can typically find the link to message the mods.Who are moderators? What do they do?Each subreddit is a community with its own focus. The mods are volunteers who ensure the subreddit stays true to its purpose by enforcing set rules. For example, /r/android is a subreddit dedicated to discussion of the Android operating system. Anything not directly related to Android is removed by its moderators. Similarly, /r/apple is a subreddit dedicated to discussing Apple and its products.Moderators have the power to approve or remove any comments or submissions made to only the subreddits they moderate. They can also issue a ban for users on their subreddit. Moderators enforce the rules laid out in the sidebar, so if you follow all the rules in the sidebar you should be good!Who are admins? What do they do?Meet the admins. The admins are like super-moderators. They have all the abilities of moderators across every subreddit plus more. They are paid employees of the site and they ensure that the site runs smoothly for all users. The admins are generally hands-off when it comes to individual subreddits, letting the moderators and the community decide how its run. However, the admins will enforce the rules of reddit on every subreddit. Be familiar with these rules. Failure to follow these rules may earn you a sitewide ban, or the closing down of a subreddit. What is reddiquette?reddiquette is an informal set of guidelines to follow before commenting or submitting on reddit. As reddit has grown, certain behaviors have been frowned upon and other behaviors have been encouraged. reddiquette spells out these behaviors so you aren't left wondering why your posts aren't well-received. You might not be banned not following reddiquette, but you will probably be showered in downvotes if you don't.Help! What happened to my post?reddit is a huge forum with millions of users. Many posts are made here every day. Many, many posts are made with the intention to spam or harass other users. Other posts just don't fit the subreddit. Moderators have to filter through these posts every day to ensure their subreddit stays on topic and free of hostility. Some moderators use bots to help them report posts, some moderators do it all themselves. Every subreddit is different. If you find your post not showing up in the subreddit, your best bet is to ask the moderators there why it's not showing up. Please note: when you message the moderators, ALL moderators can read it! It's a shared inbox!I can still see my post but others say they can't?Nothing is really removed from reddit, if a mod removes something it is de-listed for others to see. You can still see it with a direct link.My post was removed because it was spam? What gives? Spam is a tricky subject, reddit has several base rules but much of it is left for moderators to decide. reddit's FAQ has a good section explaining it.I have a great idea for a subreddit!Awesome! Message the moderators so you can talk to themI have a great idea for reddit as a site!Awesome too! Post it in /r/ideasfortheadminsWhat if I don't like the moderators or how the subreddit is run? That's okay, reddit was built to handle just that! First though, make sure that you talk to the moderators of that subreddit just to be sure there aren't any misunderstandings, or if you can't just compromise. Otherwise, make your own community! Here is an excellent guide for starting and moderating your own subreddit.Moderators are people, too, so if you want your voice heard consider messaging them politely with your concerns. We care about the communities we help run and would hate to see users leave because of something that we can help fix! What if I need help with something else?Try /r/help for general help on reddit. /r/askmoderators can also help you out if you need to ask mods about anything.I think I found a bug.Uh oh. If you are using an application or extension, most have a subreddit you can post in! (/r/RESIssues, /r/alienblue, /r/redditisfun). If you found a bug with reddit itself, post it to /r/bugs (more serious issues should be sent directly to the reddit security team: see the /r/bugs sidebar for contact information.)Other Subreddits of NoteOther good subreddits to check out for help with various topics are /r/Modhelp, /r/Modnews, /r/ChangeLog, /r/Blog, and /r/Announcements.Read more about reddit and how it works. Also, see the FAQ on /r/help! via /r/spaceporn ift.tt/1qcffB7

Did you know?

The osprey is one of the most widespread birds of prey and can be found on every continent except Antarctica.

Ospreys are superb fishers and indeed eat little else—fish make up some 99 percent of their diet. Because of this appetite, these birds can be found near ponds, rivers, lakes, and coastal waterways around the world. Ospreys hunt by diving to the water's surface from some 30 to 100 feet (9 to 30 meters) up. They have gripping pads on their feet to help them pluck fish from the water with their curved claws and carry them for great distances. In flight, ospreys will orient the fish headfirst to ease wind resistance.

Ospreys are sometimes confused with bald eagles, but can be identified by their white underparts. Their white heads also have a distinctive black eyestripe that goes down the side of their faces. Eagles and ospreys frequent similar habitats and sometimes battle for food. Eagles often force osprey to drop fish that they have caught and steal them in midair.

Human habitat is sometimes an aid to the osprey. The birds happily build large stick-and-sod nests on telephone poles, channel markers, and other such locations. Artificial nesting platforms are common in areas where preservationists are working to reestablish the birds. North American osprey populations became endangered in the 1950s due to chemical pollutants such as DDT, which thinned their eggshells and hampered reproduction. Ospreys have rebounded significantly in recent decades, though they remain scarce in some locales.

Most ospreys are migratory birds that breed in the north and migrate south for the winter. They lay eggs (typically three), which both parents help to incubate. Osprey eggs don't hatch all at once, but are staggered in time so that some siblings are older and more dominant. When food is scarce these stronger birds may take it all and leave their siblings to starve.

Only about 50% of the computer can be recycled, the rest is dumped. The toxicity of the waste is mostly due to the lead, mercury and cadmium – non-recyclable components of a single computer may contain almost 2 kilograms of lead. Much of the plastic used contains flame retardants, which makes it difficult to recycle.

Sula nebouxii Sulidae (family which comprises ten species of long-winged seabirds)

Appearance: Average 81 centimetres (32 in) long and weighs 1.5 kilograms (3.3 lb), with the females slightly larger than the males. S. nebouxii has long pointed wings and a wedge shaped tail. The booby's yellow eyes are placed on either side of their bill and oriented towards the front with excellent binocular vision. The male has more yellow on its iris than the female. Their feet range from a pale turquoise to a deep aquamarine. Males and younger birds have lighter feet than females do.

Distribution: Baja Peninsula to northern peru and Galápagos Islands.

Habitat: The Blue-footed Booby is strictly a marine bird. Their only need for land is to breed, which they do along rocky coasts.

Diet: Mainly fish like sardines, anchovies, mackerel, and flying fish but also feed on squid.

Call: xeno-canto www.xeno-canto.org/explore?query=Sula+nebouxii+

Remarks: When they spot a school of fish, they will all dive in unison. They point their bodies down like an arrow and dive into the water plunging from heights of 33–100 ft (10–30.5 m) and even up to 330 ft (100 m). They hit the water around 60 mph (97 km/h) and can go to depths of 82 ft (25 m) usually eating while underwater.

The Paparazzi Bots is a series of five autonomous robots each standing at the height of the average human. Comprised of multiple microprocessors, cameras, sensors, code and robotic actuators on a custom-built rolling platform, they move at the speed of a walking human, avoiding walls and obstacles while using sensors to move toward humans. They seek one thing, which is to capture photos of people and to make these images available to the press and the world wide web as a statement of culture's obsession with the “celebrity image” and especially our own images. The flash autonomously goes off, capturing people’s photos and elevating them to “celebrity” in a kind of momentary anointing by the robots. The robots also become celebrities through their association to the “famous people” at the exhibition that are captured by the Paparazzi Bots.

Each autonomous robot can make the decision to take the photos of particular people, while ignoring other humans in the exhibition, based on things such as, whether or not the viewers are smiling or the shape of their smile. When the robots identify a person or group they will automatically adjust their focus and use a series of bright flashes to record that moment.

Surveillance technologies straddle a delicate balance that we have in contemporary culture, where we are all photographed without our knowledge by cell phones, hidden cameras and sometimes “celebritized”. This is a kind of modern baptism with the camera flash and the spectacle of being the focus of the camera becoming a kind of techno anointing.

This work explores ideas surrounding the shifting territories of self and machine and how machines can manipulate the other (us) in a grand co-evolutionary dance of emerging robot-human relations.

The recent emergence of social networks and their ability to connect people through software prompts via the world wide web is a prime example of the co-evolution of humans and their intelligent machines. The fact that the software prompts exploit our social needs for connectivity and social space is so easily exploited in this new critical juncture in our emerging machine human relations.

This camera can track your head and be set to take a photo if you smile mildly, medium-smile or pull-a-muscle smile. When set to smile mode, they do seem to prefer even smiles rather than crooked smiles so here the machine is making determinations about issues of "beauty". I have considered holding a robot beauty contest as an addition to this work.

On each visit there is always something extra special … in a bad way.

There are lots of little things that make me raise an eyebrow in a hotel of this class such as silverware not being cleared. Like the coffee, they put the effort into serving a better grade and there’s nothing on the menu about it.

This was just a silly little thing, but I asked if they had a tea menu and they brought out the cans of tea. It wasn’t like a special presentation or anything, they just plopped these big cans on the table. Really?

Here’s the big thing on this visit. The hotel is out of the way on a quiet street. I told the doorman I needed a cab. He discussed the weather but couldn’t make the effort to call a taxi. After waiting 15 minutes, I asked again “No taxi?”. He smiled looked up and down the street and said “No taxi”.
