What falls from the trees is often very edible. This avacado was so big I didn't recognize it until Bob picked it up and cut it open excitedly. It fell just a few feet in front of us.
We had bought an avacado and when we cut into it the seed already had roots growing so we stuck it in some dirt and babied the heck out of it. We would put it under warm lights during the day or a sunny window and after a month or so it finally started to pop through the dirt. This is what the plant looks like as of December 2010, it has been growing for maybe 6 months, very, very slow grower. I would venture to guess it has something to do with the fact that we live in Oregon, not real warm and sunny very often. It has been pretty fun to see this plant grow, it's just not something you see growing around here so it would be pretty cool if it actually gave us an avacado, yes, i know, i need a life right :)
Avacado, spinach, cilantro, peanuts, carrots, beets and rice noodles with lime and a sweet and sour dipping sauce. Yum! Laura F
