You have to see this event to understand it...this is a single car or motorcycle ( antique and vintage only ) at a time, drag up a long hill that is very hard on trannies and engines. I watched a guy blow his transmission this year where the casing literally blew off and gears came rolling out. 2017 was the 50th anniversary of this event and there are guys whose cars have 20+ stickers from previous years adoring their windshield...it's a kind of pride tradition to some....and probably one of the biggest never heard of before events that I've witnessed.

From Wikipedia:

Newport Antique Auto Hill Climb is an annual festival that takes place on the first Sunday of October in Newport, Indiana. The festival is run by the Lions CLub of Newport, and the town of Newport. Each year a Hill Climb Queen is crowned, as well as many winners of the timed race. The Newport Auto Antique Hill Climb is an international antique auto up hill timed event held each year in the small Indiana town of Newport, an event that attracts those crowds of one hundred thousand plus to that little town. Automobiles, trucks and motorcycles from the Steam, Brass, Vintage, Antique, and Classic Car eras, make timed runs from a standing start, up a steep hill to a finish line 1,800 feet away. It is an Indiana auto event second in size only to the annual Indianapolis Speed Motor Speedway event, the Indy 500.

- The Aronde Series (“9” 1951-1955, “90” 1955-1958 and “P60” 1958-Mai 22, 1963) was SIMCA's first original design (iso an restyled FIAT model) and SIMCA’s first unibody car (technical base still derived from the FIAT 1200). 1,425,329 units were built during this era.

- The base maodel was designed by Mario Revelli di Beaumont while René Dumas made the final design.

- "Aronde" is an old French term for "Swallow". This term was used because the swallow also graced the Simca logo at that time.

- “P” stands for "personnaliser” / “customized” and “60” for the coming decade (meaning "ahead of its time”). Unofficially, the “P” also refers to "Pigozzi," (Henri Théodore Pigozzi - 1898-1964) the charismatic and iconic SIMCA boss.

- The Aronde P60 Ranch is a more luxurious estate version of the Aronde P60 Châtelaine 3-door estate/station wagon (1958-1960) with a new front end (resembling the 1957 Ford Thunderbird) from the new Aronde P60 but stiil with the back end of the previous generation of Aronde estates.

- The Simca Aronde P60 Series was available as this 2-door Estate, as 4-door Saloon, as 3-door Coupé, as 3-door Hardtop Coupé, as 3-door Convertible, as 3-door Van, as 3-door Pick-Up and as 5-door Estate (only in Australia).

- They were assembled at SIMCA’s plants in Nanterre (France) and in Poissy (France), the CKD kits were assembled by Chrysler Australia in Adelaide, while the 5-door Estate was developed by Chrysler Australia and (only) produced in Mile End (Australia).

The Studebaker Silver Hawk was an automobile produced between 1957 and 1959 by the StudebakerCorporation of South Bend, Indiana. The Hawk was also produced in 1956. There were four versions, pillared Flight Hawk and Power Hawk, and hardtop Sky Hawk and Golden Hawk. The Silver Hawk model was not produced in 1956, the first year of the Hawks. The same basic car was produced for two more years (1960 and 1961) as simply the Studebaker Hawk, since from 1959 onward no other Hawk models were being sold.

Seen here at Concord bus station, on service 82A to Birtley.

That's John C. Kindler, who was the fire department chief in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in the driver's seat of his 1913 Studebaker-Flanders automobile. His passenger is Edward Halbert, assistant chief. Note the fire gong and the two fire extinguishers mounted on the side of the vehicle.

The setting shows Front Street in Harrisburg, with the benches and trees of Riverfront Park across the street and the faint blue of the Susquehanna River barely visible in the background.

Oldtimer Teilemarkt (OTM) 2017, Fribourg

It has been a quiet few weeks for photography. The weather is getting hot again in Kuwait, which means usually less will to go out and take any shots during the day.

That being said, today I stumbled on an interesting subject by coincidence as I was driving back home. This nice classic GMC truck. I'm not really sure what model year it is, but it's very clean and nice looking. I took some HDR shots, the normal ones didn't come out as interesting even after some color manipulation. Polarizer filter was used to deal with glare.

3 exposure HDR generated in Photomatix and edited in CS2 and Lightroom as per my usual Double HDR method.

WEEK 51.2 – Southaven Burlington Relocation: New Store, Set III

Finally, to wrap up this series of photos from the new Burlington, here's one last look at the exterior, complete with the “now open” banner seen back on grand opening day, September 15th, 2017. I hope you've enjoyed these past three photosets, and for that matter, all the pics I uploaded of the old store as well! I guess now that my coverage of both of those stores is complete, I can finally ask for your judgment: which store do you like better? As always, your comments are welcome! :)

UPDATE: For those of you who are reading this in my Burlington Relocation album and are interested in seeing what happened to the former Burlington space on Stateline Road, feel free to check out this album!

Next week – it's the end of 2017 already; wow! Can you believe it? Anyway, Week 52 of uploads is coming your way...

Carrozzeria Touring is an automobile coachbuilder established on March 25, 1926 in Milan, Italy by Felice Bianchi Anderloni (1882–1948) and Gaetano Ponzoni. Carrozzeria Touring became well known for both the beauty of its designs and patented superleggera construction methods.

After achieving success through the middle of the 20th century, business began to decline as automobile manufacturers replaced body-on-frame automobile construction with monocoque construction and increasingly took coachbuilding in-house. The original firm ceased production in 1966, but Carlo Felice Bianchi Anderloni and Carrozzeria Marazzi preserved the "Touring Superleggera" trademark and used it on several occasions to support the company's heritage. The trademark was purchased by the current owner, Zeta Europe BV, which resumed business activities in 2006 under the name Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera s.r.l. The firm is headquartered in Carrozzeria Touring's hometown of Milan, Italy and operates under Head of Design Louis de Fabribeckers.

Brenda O'Brien is the proud owner of the 21st privately owned Plymouth Prowler. (Mr. O'Brien tells us that the first 200 were reserved for Chrysler executives so they have number 221). This beautifully designed street rod is graced with Prowler Purple Metallic exterior paint and a slate grey interior. Under the hood is a 3.5L V6 and a modified ECM allowing the production of 252 hp. The O'Briens also have a matching Prowler trailer.

Wipe the drool off your chin; then, take a closer look!

Design [Plymouth Prowler]

One of the most striking design features of the Prowler are the open, Indy-racer-style front wheels. The design of the Prowler was said to have been inspired after Chrysler engineers were given free rein to create whatever they wanted in a "hot rod" or "sportster" type vehicle.

The Prowler featured a powertrain lifted from Chrysler's LH-cars, a 3.5L SOHC V6 producing 214 horsepower (160 kW). For the 1999 model year the engine was replaced with a more powerful 253 hp (189 kW) version of the engine. Both engines were coupled to a 4-speed Autostick automatic transmission. The transmission is located at the rear of the vehicle and joined to the engine by a flexible driveshaft that rotates at engine speed; this arrangement is similar to that used by the C5 Corvette and Alfa Romeo 75, and helped to facilitate a desirable 50-50 (percentage, front-rear) weight distribution. The Prowler was the first rear-wheel drive Plymouth since the 1989 Plymouth Gran Fury and was based on the 1993 concept car of the same name.

The car prominently featured aluminum in its construction, chiefly in the chassis. In many cases, the components were adhesively-bonded. The body was produced in Shadyside, Ohio, USA and the car was assembled by hand at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant (CAAP) in Detroit Michigan.

The Excalibur automobile, was a car styled after the 1928 Mercedes-Benz SSK by Brooks Stevens for Studebaker. Stevens subsequently formed a company to manufacture and market the cars, which were conventional under their styling.

A little over 3,200 Excalibur cars were built, all in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
