Rolleiflex Automat, Tri-X (expired 2002), developed in Xtol. Printed on Ilford FB Classic, scanned on HP Photosmart 4599.

My Rolleiflex Automat had been sitting on my shelf collecting dust for nearly 20 years. With fingers crossed, I ran a roll of expired tri-x through it a couple weeks ago. I'm thrilled with the results: the old-school Tessar lens seems to make everything look pretty. The only issue I encountered was user-error. The shadowy area on the right edge is where the film reel crept up on the spool during development.

The film was expired in 2002, shot at EI 200 and developed normally in Xtol 1:1 (developed normally for 400-speed). Since its purchase 15 years ago, the film was stored in a box and subjected to drastic changes in temperature.

The staff here did really know what they were talking about - they even made an espresso for one of my colleagues.

So many smokers still in Japan! As a result of the earthquake and tsunami, some cigarette brands are currently not available in Tokyo. So, I was watching out for them here, but during my whole day's walk, I only found one automat that said it had Hi-Lite. I did not test it to see whether it would actually give me one!

Rescanned using my new Canonscan 9000f, previously shot with a D70 on tripod and the negative on an iPad! This looks much better, the tones and graduation looks much better than 35mm. This is only a 1800 dpi scan downsized for Flickr.

Gear shot of my everyday cameras, Leica M8 with 35mm Nokton, Bessa R2 with 15mm, Voigtlander 75mm and Nikkor 50mm. I've replaced the Bessa and the Nikkor with an M6 and CV 50/1.5.
