A Seiko 5 automatic (mechanical watch) from the 1980's with a nice golden checkerboard dial. Movement type 7009 with 17 jewels. Won in an eBay auction for US$20.50 including shipping, from watchmakers in India who recondition such watches. Not only did they recondition this (complete with a new crystal) but they even managed to adjust the speed dead on. When worn, it keeps within about 5 seconds a day of the right time, which is about as good as the best railroad pocket watches of a century ago, that were renowned for their accuracy (and whch today sell to collectors for hundreds of dollars).

Had to go on a trip down to near Peterborough on Sunday. On Monday morning had a stroll round the town of Stamford, where there are a great many old, yellow sandstone buildings.

I found this old vending machine set into the wall of one of those buildings; glad they kept this in situ.

In the early 1980s British Leyland’s ageing middle-range saloon, the Princess, was long overdue for a makeover.

Still a favourite with fleet managers, the Princess was clearly past its prime and the lack of a hatch-back option put it at a disadvantage compared to its rivals. The Ambassador was its replacement, launched in March 1982, retaining its distinctive wedge-shaped profile. This was more than a simple makeover since only the doors and inner structure were carried over from the earlier car, the rest of the bodywork being entirely new and including that all-important hatch-back tailgate.

The Ambassador made do with a four-cylinder engine, with either 1,7-litre or 2,0-litre displacement, the compact engines resulting in a lower bonnet line than its predecessor. Transmission was limited to just four speeds for both the manual and automatic versions.

This April 1982 2.0 HL Automatic is an incredible survivor of this unloved BL product. Derided in period, there was no love lost on cars at the end of their life-cycle which has resulted in just 83 remaining registered with the DVLA according to the endlessly fascinating ‘How Many Left’ website.

Even more amazing is that this car appears to have covered just 11.011 miles, although there isn’t a full trail of paperwork to confirm this. There is a service book which shows that its first owner chose Regal Motors to supply it. There are two stamps in the book, the last in 1985 when the car had covered 6.991 miles. An old MOT from 1998 records an indicated mileage of 10.849 miles, its most recent MOT expiring in 2013.

The file includes a V5C, handbook, anti-corrosion certificate and warranty from Proctectol as well as a full Austin supplied workshop manual. Given that the car has done so little over recent years, we have not attempted to start the vehicle since it has been onsite.

Specialist car builder Jensen created a sensation when they launched the Interceptor at the 1966 London Motor Show. The aggressively styled car with body built by Vignale of Turin was powered by a potent Chrysler V8 engine. Other than a few with manual gearboxes, most were equipped with Chrysler’s Torqueflite automatic transmission. The Jensen Interceptor, and its four-wheel drive derivative the FF, were aimed at the luxury car market.

From the 1930s, Jensen Motors supplied car bodies for many of the larger manufacturers as well as building a range of commercial vehicle chassis. In the 1950s and 1960s the company established a reputation as a builder of sporty GT cars such as the 541 and C-V8. The Interceptor built on this tradition. Jensen survived until 1976, eventually succumbing to financial difficulties in the aftermath of the oil crisis.

journaling: My most precious memory is when they placed my children on my tummy. The instant love that overwhelmed me came automatically, I didn’t had to do anything for it. It felt like a rush of pure love sweeping me of my feet leaving me hopelessly in love.

absolutely delighted to see this Classic big BMW in such great condition, wish all BMW owners looks after their cars like this owner does. Fabric interior (non leather) is in great condition. No good pictures of the front due to it being parked against a wall. The alloy wheels are not great though

When it was county fair time and the carnival came to town, I was willing to try more tricks with a different "twist." the camera was bobbing around while the white ride sprung up in the air. I waited for a totally black sky after the sunset. There is a lot more slack to impart action at 2-3 seconds than at 1 second. It seems that I can never get the experimentation done, another foray with different results. I shot at f:/16 for over a second in the dark. I arrived at the parking at about 8:00 in the evening for the weather to soothe and people to get on the rides. It is difficult getting three rides running at once.but this action technique overcomes that problem. I hope I don't need a description for this shot. I have no idea for a title until I look at the results on the monitor and good takes become obvious but this time, I had very few duds. I expect to delve into these takes at a later time. Each episode is a learning experience and I make a list of pointers to consider.

I never have finished my previous color lights or rose garden experiments. I will take the opportunity to try out more tricks before the next fair rides. I am still not out of snaps of other subjects but I hope my breadth has expanded. Generally, I did little warping and editing, for me at least, to present these the way I wanted. I have learned to slow the camera down even further to three seconds this time but I boosted the lens setting to f:/22. Three seconds is about enough to accomplish a wide array of tricks if prepared and prepanned so to speak. Of course this digital experimentation is cheap. I had fun shooting all of these and they were a breeze to edit! I get mostly muted colors in the ag settings I have shot, so I revel in JUST COLORS.

i'd see them again in a heartbeat, they were beyond amazing. :D

Bumbled my way into a new junkyard last week near Stockton California. Took a lot of convincing, but the manager ended up letting me stay to shoot until 11. The yard is mostly contemporary cars (ie: about 10 years old), definitely a departure for me, but I still managed to find plenty to shoot and have fun with.

First shot of the night, it was still rather dusky and light. This is a composite of three 30 second exposures, with each lighting angle happening in separate exposures. I would have easily done it in one shot, but there was still just too much light in the sky.

Reprocessed and replaced, November 2024.
