Possibly the mate to the male posted some photos back. There seem to have been a regular pair in the yard this summer dropping by for baths. Our plum tree also produced a bumper crop of plums this summer (I had quite a mess to clean up when we got home, and it is ongoing). Do tanagers eat plums? I know the squirrels are crazy for them. Western tanager, backyard Olympia.

Note (9.6.21): Saw a female tanager in the yard today.

These cool August mornings have provided for some nice foggy sunrises over the Mississippi River Valley. Photographed at Hunters Point Landing in northeastern Vernon County, Wisconsin.

This is me exploring what a RAW file from my iPhone can do. Image file generated by Halide II, and post processed in Silver Efex Pro and Lightroom.

There's a surprising amount of detail available in these little RAW files!

Revisiting the flocks with the filter system today and the intention of trying to be subtle with the rainbow effect. I think the overhead clouds gave me an assist and let the filters do their thing in an understated sort of way.

Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

The waxwings are still here and seem to have settled into a regular bathing routine. Also of note today, I saw a wilson's warbler, most of whom left at the end of May. Cedar waxwing, backyard Olympia.

The bees seem super comfortable being in front of the camera lately which allows me to play with the Omni Filter System more so I'm not complaining.

Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

Yes … it's hard to believe, but with September we move into meteorological autumn.

Well, it isn't as hard to imagine this year, as the drought has meant the trees are already dropping leaves, and the harvest has been finished weeks ago!

The autumnal equinox (the first day of astronomical fall) doesn't arrive until Sept. 22nd but we feel we are already there. Truly the climate is changing the way our seasons work!

It has been a month with lots of sunshine, and even a few scorching hot days. So there are plenty of outdoor shots in my August collection.

Flowers as well as leaves have been falling early this year, and many garden-based shots were missed. I especially wanted to shoot more lavender, as the bees and butterflies have been feasting on our lavender flowers. Indeed it has been so encouraging, as there are more insects around this year than last.

As ever, Flickr keeps me looking for photo opportunities, and the search for more unusual topics and items to capture!

Once again, many thanks to everyone who has visited my photostream and for the comments and faves.

“August was nearly over - the month of apples and falling stars, the last care-free month for the school children. The days were not hot, but sunny and limpidly clear - the first sign of advancing autumn.”

The background is a blend of four separate photos shot on the same block in Culver City last week; the squirrel was shot in a different place and time altogether.

This month I shall be combining a piece of "mainly" British Folk Music with an Image "Stolen" from the Street, or a Museum. or some other "Godforsaken" place.!

Most of the music dates back to the 1970s, some is well know, some is not well know and some is downright weird.!!!!!!!!

This is purely an indulgence, on my part of course, but during this exercise I discovered some great stuff my Grandfather had forgot to tell me about.

ALL the music and all the videos are taken from YOUTUBE.

I will also include a WIKI Bio of the Artists.....History is such an interesting and sad thing...........

Hope you like this little "August Frippery"
