The site at Orford Ness was in military ownership between 1915 and 1987, and in that time was active in the development of military aviation, radio and radar technology and nuclear bomb development. Now owned by the National trust, the wildlife has started to reclaim much of the site as many of the historic buildings stand as sentinels to the work that has long since ceased.

Fellow flickrite steve_cx plays guitar in "The Atomic Rays". Here they are in action at the Cat & Wheel on Cheltenham Road in Bristol on Friday night. Poor light and a crush of people dancing at the front made photography tricky, but the music made up for that.
The former Hiroshima Prefectural Commercial Exhibition Hall survived the blast's detonation almost exactly above it.
