Astrophytum asterias Hybr., seeded December 18, 2011 and Astrophytum capricorne v. minor, seeded January 4, 2012.

Not really possible to keep them apart right now. :)

Mexico-Nuevo Leon, 100-200m., in very restricted area.

A remarkable instance in cacti of geophytism coupled with the elongation of the tubercles (podaria) to serve as succulent 'leaves', parallleled in a less stiking way in Ariocarpus agavoides and by Leuchtenbergia principis, (The New Cactus Lexicon, 2006). This species was in the genus Digitostigma formerly.

2019-07 [8 cm pot] blooming for the first time

This plant was bought from KU (2015-04). Allegedly, a thornless form of Astrohytum capricorne, though it is said that some thorns may appear as the plant grows old. Mine already as a few. Now dead.
