Astrophytum myriostigma
Received from China November 2013
Thanks to my brother, Frankie, for the beautiful plants..
Mexico-Nuevo Leon, 100-200m., in very restricted area.
A remarkable instance in cacti of geophytism coupled with the elongation of the tubercles (podaria) to serve as succulent 'leaves', parallleled in a less stiking way in Ariocarpus agavoides and by Leuchtenbergia principis, (The New Cactus Lexicon, 2006). This species was in the genus Digitostigma formerly.
I invite all cactus friends to visit my NEW HOME PAGES in Fotki. These pages are dedicated to cacti. You will see many species, genus by genus. There are some info about general cactus care, species and genera also.
2019-07 [8 cm pot] blooming for the first time
This plant was bought from KU (2015-04). Allegedly, a thornless form of Astrohytum capricorne, though it is said that some thorns may appear as the plant grows old. Mine already as a few. Now dead.
