'Akabana' is a cultivar (hybrid) plant, red flowering form.

Astrophytum capricorne , es una especie fanerógama perteneciente a la familia de las cactáceas. Es natural de México, donde habitualmente crece en terrenos rocosos.
Es un cactus globoso, alcanza un tamaño de 10 a 15 cm de altura y de 10 a 15 cm de diámetro, presenta 7-8 costillas pronunciadas con espinas largas y flexibles, las cuales suelen curvarse sobre la planta. Sus flores son grandes (aproximadamente 6 cm de diámetro), de color amarillo brillante con el centro rojo.
Collected in Mexico for the UC Botanical Garden in 1995. Now living in the Arid House, where special lights keep the specimens healthy…..hence the slight purple glow.
