On our way back from Fantasy Canyon (more later), we stopped to photograph the Aspen trees whose white bark showed up so well against the dark green Spruce trees.
I added a little touch of whimsy by processing the image with Pixel Bender's OilPaint Tool. I think I like the result... (Looks better in Large size.)
Taken in Aspendell, CA just before the mountain shadow overtook the aspen trees.

Not much time to get out and shoot lately. I have worked the last 70 days - 11 hours a day without a day off. Looking forward to getting out and shooting soon.

My dad joined me on a recent camping trip at Kebler Pass. We experienced ever-changing weather– sunny one moment, then rainy the next. After exploring the area, we returned to our campsite and noticed intriguing fog enveloping a nearby grove of aspen trees. Eager to photograph the moment, I quickly packed my camera gear and set out for a hike. The foggy conditions persisted long enough to focus in on this composition before the rain started pouring down.

This tree seemed to be on fire as the morning sun came through its foliage.
This male Barred Ow (Strix varia) was pretty much unconcerned with the morning visitors who stopped by to see him. I think he may have been as curious of us as we were of him. Eventually he moved to his favorite roosting spot in a large pine tree for a long nap. Taken in St. Louis County, Minnesota on March 7, 2015.

In the middle of Lamar Valley ("America's Serengeti") Rose Creek comes down from the mountains, past the Buffalo Ranch (now used by Yellowstone Forever for its Institute programs), through a culvert under the road, and on to spill into the Lamar River.
On the way, its waters support some beautiful old aspen trees. They weren't quite in full fall form yet, but nonetheless make for a great beauty spot along the way.
