Aspen eyes are actually markings on the main trunk where side branches used to be. They have the mysterious look of ancient symbols such as the Eye of Providence, sometimes interpreted as representing the eye of God watching over humankind. In the modern era, the most notable depiction of the eye is the reverse of the Great Seal of the United States, which appears on the United States one-dollar bill.

Kebler Pass in Colorado offers a special chance to capture the beauty of fall aspen trees in the state. The aspen trees on Kebler Pass are notably large, as you can see from this image that shows ferns covering the lower 2-3 feet of their trunks. Despite the light rain, we wasted no time and set out to take photos right after unloading the camper. I was determined to make the most of our brief visit focused on capturing the fall colors of Colorado. This composition is a two-image panorama stitch cropped to 16x9 format.

Autumn - October 21, 2015

A very pleasant fall afternoon near the Virginia Lakes turnoff along HWY 395 in the Eastern Sierra. The mornings cloud coverage gave way before noon. Now almost 2PM and I'm starting to see some nice back-lighting in the trees and other flora in this vicinity so I decided to pull over and see what I could do with this nice light.

Grand Teton National Park is located in northwest Wyoming. The mountain range is absolutely spectacular. Primarily because the land around them is flat, and they come charging out of the ground.

Everybody talks about wanting to tour Yellowstone. The Tetons are just south of Yellowstone. Be sure and include time for the Tetons. You won't be sorry.

The highest peak is Grand Teton.

I thought the view of the mountains was fantastic through these aspen.

This is what I wore on Memorial Day. I had to work all day, but I still wanted to look patriotic. This dress went perfectly with my red, white, and blue belt!
