The solemn procession of the articles of impeachment from the House of Representatives to the Senate began on Wednesday. Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath of impeachment to the senators and then each came down to the front to sign the oath book, a legal and Constitutional statement that they would each "...do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws..."
Who are they kidding? Many senators have already stated they've already made up their minds, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham. Others have fended impartiality, but have made ludicrous statements that suggest otherwise, like Maine Senator Susan Collins.
When asked about new evidence provided by Lev Parnas, she asked: "I wonder why the House did not put that into the record, and it's only now being revealed." When she was told the House only received the information last week, she replied: "Well, doesn't that suggest that the House did an incomplete job then?"
If the Senator is confused, then she should be certain of her facts before stating them publicly. But, she has waffled before, stating one opinion, only to renege later. In fact, Parnas is under federal indictment for violating campaign finance laws. The House did subpoena Parnas the day after he was arrested in October 2019. However, a federal judge granted him permission to testify only last week.
Despite the mounting facts, it's doubtful the Senate will vote to remove Trump from office. This is a highly partisan trial (Arizona Republican Senator Martha McSally called CNN reporter Manu Raju a "liberal hack" when he asked her on live TV whether she'd be voting to admit this new evidence). Politics, political loyalties, and many senators' fears of losing their jobs will make this trial a sham.
It's party and personal ambition over the Constitution and our country.

At Plaza De Roma, the central square of the Walled City, one of the most important buildings in Intramuros is located beside that square, the Palacio del Gobernador, the current office of the Commission on Elections, and Intramuros Administration.
ABOUT PALACIO DEL GOBERNADOR:
Palacio Del Gobernador is the former headquarters and residence of the Governors General in the Philippine Islands. Originally, the structure was the former house of Manuel Estacio de Venegas, a governor’s aide. Then, the two-storey property was taken by government and served to be the palace for the Capitan-General" of the archipelago. It was destroyed by two earthquakes: 1645, and 1863 forcing the Capitan-General to move in Malacañan Palace. Afterwards, it was remained as ruins until WWII and Republic Era. On late 1970s, the Intramuros Administration rebuilt the Palace and used as offices of the government: The Bureau of Treasury (former), the Intramuros Administration, and Commission on Elections.

This is the second in a series of articles about short-lived cinemas in Liverpool which hardly get mentioned elsewhere.
I try to give the full history of each building, both before and after it showed films, with relevant bits of Local History included.
THE PRINCE'S PICTUREDROME
1 Arrad Street, Liverpool 7
Opened 1 October 1910
Arrad Street is a small back street off Hope Street. It faces the Philharmonic pub and finishes up at the beginning of Oxford Street. (The rear of the Everyman Theatre is in Arrad Street.) 1 Arrad Street was built on the site of a stone-yard, some time shortly before 1897, at which date it is listed in the Liverpool Street Directory as being occupied by Joseph Thurstan, a car proprietor. In those days a car proprietor was a person who owned carriages and/or wagons for hire, including taxis. As the transport was horse-drawn the building was used as stables and carriage-sheds. The Liverpool Street Directories from 1900 to 1909 show that Pilling & Co., who were also car proprietors, then had the building.
In the Liverpool Echo for 20 December 1909 there appeared the announcement: "The Vandora (Noiseless) Skating Rink, Myrtle Street, will be opened shortly. Seamless floor. First Class String Band. Well-appointed Cafe. Up-to-date arrangements in every respect." The address was given as Myrtle Street simply because nobody knew where Arrad Street was. There was a side entrance which opened out to the very short Stowell Street, which leads into Myrtle Street. This skating rink should not be confused with the Gymnasium Skating Rink in Myrtle Street, or with the later Ritz Roller Rink, also in Myrtle Street. (The site of the Gymnasium was for years a car park next to the Children's Hospital, with part of the front wall standing. The Ritz Roller Rink became the Rodney Youth Centre. Coincidentally, the Rodney Youth Centre was the last tenant of the old Gymnasium. They bought the Ritz Roller Rink in March 1960.)
On 8 February 1910, permission was granted by the Justices to Maurice Vos who had applied to build a skating rink at 1 Arrad Street. Objections were raised by the Eye & Ear Infirmary and the Cancer Hospital, both in Myrtle street, and a private Nursing Home. The side wall of the rink would only be 30-odd feet away from an operating theatre! Mr Vos stated that the skates were "Noiseless". Somebody on the Licensing Bench remarked that it was a pity that the band wouldn't be the same. A temporary music licence was granted until March 1st, "in order to allow the building being tested as to its effect on adjoining institutions." Mr Vos said that the building was almost ready for use and that £3,000 had been spent on the conversion. A ten years' lease had been taken. The trial period must have been satisfactory as a normal music licence was granted on March 2nd, and the rink was opened by the 5th.
From 9 April 1910 the Vandora Skating Rink was under the new management of Mr C.E. Redfern (Mr Redfern was known to be more interested in films than in skating, but there is no indication that he showed films here at this stage).
The skating rink, which was built following a roller-skating craze which had peaked in 1909, but didn't last long.
Hundreds of skating rinks had been built in the country during this period and only a very few survived longer than 1910.
Seven had opened in Liverpool with another two in Bootle. Five of these were converted into early cinemas.
By 30 August 1910 it had been decided to convert the Vandora Rink into the "Philharmonic Picture Hall". (The Philharmonic Hall was within shouting distance). The music licence (in connection with skating) was surrendered on 27 September 1910, and a cinematograph licence was granted.
The cinema - one of the first in Liverpool - opened on 1 October 1910, not as the Philharmonic, but as the Prince's Picturedrome. The admission charges were 6d, 9d & 1/-. The initial performance consisted of "A Special Programme of High-Class Animated Pictures". Even at this date - 14 years after Liverpool had first seen films - it wasn't felt necessary to state just which films would be shown. The fact that they moved was reason enough.
An advertisement in the Liverpool Echo of 21 November 1910 called the cinema "The Prince's Picturedrome & Cafe Lounge, Myrtle Street".) The reduced prices were then 3d, 6d & 9d, and these included free afternoon teas!
Charles William Perry was the licensee of the Picture Hall in Arrad Street from 1912 to 1915, at which date he became the first manager of the Hope Hall Cinema.
On 4 December 1913 the Philharmonic Hall applied for a cinema licence. They wanted to show the film "Anthony and Cleopatra" for a fortnight, in order to "reduce our deficit at the bank". Naturally, the Prince's objected to this. The Licensing Bench didn't take the application seriously and said they wouldn't be surprised if the Cathedral was the next establishment to apply for a cinema licence. They refused the application.
The Hope Hall in Hope Street (now the site of the Everyman Theatre) reopened in 1915 as a full-time cinema.
Other cinemas had opened in the City Centre, including the Scala in Lime Street (now 'X in the City') in 1916. All of this extra competition must have had its effect on the Prince's, which closed in 1918, some time after 25 March. The proprietors of the cinema had been a company called "Picturettes Ltd." They didn't seem to be connected with any other cinema in Liverpool.
The Buildings Register of the City Building Surveyor's Department shows that the Picturedrome premises were altered into a garage. The work started on 21 September 1918, and it was officially finished on 10 October 1918. The owners of the garage were the West Coast Motor Co. Ltd (established in 1905), car dealers & repairers. They occupied the premises right up to the early 1970s. In 1931 a showroom and filling station was built for them, next to the Women's Hospital in Catharine Street. (The Ritz Roller Rink was over this showroom.) The old premises in Arrad Street then became the Works department.
From about 1981 the building was used by Community Industry.
The building, which was demolished in 1998, was about 250 feet long by 45 feet wide, and was about twice the length of any other early cinema. In fact, only the Paramount in London Road (opened in 1934 - later the Odeon) had a (slightly) longer side elevation. No building plans of the Prince's Picturedrome have survived, so it is practically impossible to know how the building was fitted up as a cinema. Did it have the longest auditorium in town (and the longest "throw")? (In 1995 I spoke to a 92-year-old lady who played the piano in the Dingle Picturedrome. She remembered going to the Prince's Picturedrome, but couldn't remember what the interior was like.)

I read 2 very nice articles on photography/photoshop techniques this week, and tried them both today! Can I call this online literature? For me it is ;-)
The first one was about playing with the white balance on your camera. See the SOOC result in the comments, I only added some contrast to the photo.
content.photojojo.com/diy/create-in-camera-white-balance-...
The second is called "How to Convert Photos to Black and White Using Image Calculations", and I used this PS technique in my main photo. I like the subtle way of converting a photo to b&w, and am very happy that I discovered it!!
www.mcpactions.com/blog/2013/01/18/how-to-convert-photos-...
Oh, and I also excercised my panning techniques again. It's been a very fruitful afternoon!
ODC2 - LITERATURE, and as sleighing pics in winter are very cliché; HCS!
'With Monaco as a backdrop, Betty Pedersen demonstrates an old continental custom. Changing costumes in public requires, first, organisation, and then concentration.'
I picked up three wonderful little mens magazines from the 1950s/60s. Quite sexist and politically incorrect in places but wonderfully vintage and 'of the era'.
