This popular Hmong art form symbolically preserves the memory of their culture and oral history. The artist worked on it for 6 months while with her family in a refugee camp in Thailand. Embroidery.
Dave, an Educator from Squam Lake Natural Science Center, gives a "Natural Encounters" talk at the Currier Museum Art Center the last week of summer camp, in August 2012, about threatened and endangered New Hampshire animals. The Art Center students, ranging in age from 5-12, created bat "lanterns" that they then sold at the conclusion of this week-long art camp to help raise money for Bat Conservation International. The event raised a little over $400 for this non-profit.

Artist Designed Glass Block / Fabricated Aluminum
A sculptural gateway designed as a significant marker for the plaza at the new Humanities Building at Olympic College. Two 12’ columns, composed of artist designed glass block, are bound together by a “tilde” shaped horizontal member. The “tilde” is a symbol used in the English language to create a specific sound in English. The two columns are lit from within at night to create a soft glow. Sign and symbols relate to the humanities, taught in the building.

The Springfield Art Association will host an opening reception for a nationally juried ceramic exhibition entitled Shapes of Influence on Friday evening, August 3rd, from 5:30-7:30 PM. Awards and a gallery talk by juror Simon Levin will occur at 6:45 PM.
The show will be on display in the SAA's M.G. Nelson Family Gallery from August 3-September 1 and features work from over two dozen states and Canada.

Over the past few weeks, we've hosted elementary and middle school students through our Art-in-Ed program, Hands-on Art. It's been loud and crazy in here (and we're loving it)!
In April 2015, the program culminates with "Creating Self and Place," an exhibition of handmade paper, dry point etchings, linoleum cut prints, and screen-printed art made by the ninety students. Find all the event details at: www.facebook.com/events/743457499107655/

The Color of Snow, was inspired by the molecular structure of snow flakes and the concept that the beauty of small elements bring meaning to our daily lives. The snowflake appears against a brilliant sunset. Floating abstractions of snow are carried through six glass panels in the light rail station façade and then translated through the two bridge crossings approaching the station. Palm Beach County Convention Center, West Palm Beach, Florida, USA. Night time view. Five sculpted forms evoke the roll of waves as they spring off the north façade of the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The concept is supported through kinetic lighting. At night, the illuminated, curved forms display brilliantly colored undulating patterns of light evocative of rolling, ocean, wave-like motion. During the daytime, the semi-transparent sculpture displays shifting moiré patterns interactive with the location of the viewer.
