Over the past few weeks, we've hosted elementary and middle school students through our Art-in-Ed program, Hands-on Art. It's been loud and crazy in here (and we're loving it)!

Passage: The Passage works are situated in spaces where the physical movement of the listener through the space to reach a destination is inherent. They imply an active role on the part of listeners, who set a static sound structure into motion for themselves by passing through it. My first work with an aural topography,
Drive In Music in 1967, falls within this vector.

The sculpture is transparent, inviting the view of sky and trees to be intertwined with the stainless steel forms. At night the sculpture is illuminated.

Michael Heizer's vertigo-inducing sculpture North, East, South, West consists of four geometric forms produced from weathered steel and inserted 20 feet deep into the gallery's concrete floor.

Stevie Ray Vaughan's music endures through his many recordings. With that in mind this memorial to the late Texas guitarist concentrates on the man behind the musician.
The site was designed by the artist and Tom Randall, a landscape architect for the City, with the aim of creating a contemplative enclave within a large park.

The figure is unapologetically realistic; the bronze shadow--showing him playing guitar--is a metaphor for his musical legacy.

Artist Designed Glass Block / Fabricated Aluminum
A sculptural gateway designed as a significant marker for the plaza at the new Humanities Building at Olympic College. Two 12’ columns, composed of artist designed glass block, are bound together by a “tilde” shaped horizontal member. The “tilde” is a symbol used in the English language to create a specific sound in English. The two columns are lit from within at night to create a soft glow. Sign and symbols relate to the humanities, taught in the building.

Effigy Tumuli is Michael Heizer's only representational work. Designed in the tradition of Native American mound building, Effigy Tumuli consists of five different mounds of earth that resemble geometrically abstracted animals, each chosen because they are indigenous to the region: a catfish, a water strider (insect), a frog, a turtle, and a snake. The work, part of which can be seen in this photo, is located in Buffalo Rock State Park, near Ottawa, Illinois (approximately 85 miles southwest of Chicago), on Buffalo Rock, a bluff overlooking the Illinois River.
