A simple looking Arrow KT-63 made by Kowa (also available under the Kowa brand).
From a design stand-point I'd say that the tuning knob was placed in a bad spot. I've seen several of these radios missing that knob.
Perhaps it could have been made bigger, moved slightly down and to the left.

1960s Ariel Arrow and Ariel Leader, photographed in May 2012.
These two bikes have recently been lovingly restored by my father Don and his mate Richard. Both originally date from 1960 and were built by the British Ariel Motorcycle company in Birmingham. They share the same engine, a 250cc 2-stroke parallel twin but with different levels of tune producing in the region of 16 brake horsepower with a top speed of around 70 mph in favourable conditions.
In July this year my dad and brother Michael will be riding these two bikes the length of the UK from Land's End to John o' Groats raising funds for the NSPCC along the way, and this seemed like a perfect opportunity to photograph the two machines together.

1936 (?) Pierce Arrow, Love the name and the hood ornament

This is a photo of a Pierce Arrow Travelodge on display in Winder, Georgia. Well, actually is was just sitting in a lot. I had not of the Pierce Arrow Travelodge, but have done a little checking on it. "Pierce-Arrow was an American automobile manufacturer based in Buffalo, New York, which was active from 1901 to 1938. Although best known for its expensive luxury cars, Pierce-Arrow also manufactured commercial trucks, fire trucks, camp trailers, motorcycles, and bicycles." From Wikipedia. The Pierce-Arrow Society website states: "In late 1936, Pierce-Arrow introduced the Travelodge trailer. Offered in three models, the Travelodge trailers had an aluminum skin over a steel frame. Hydraulic brakes were standard. Inside, the trailers offered the convenience and luxury one would expect from Pierce-Arrow. The birch and gum wooden interior had a dining area, ice box, gas cook stove, wood heating stove, water tank and a sleeping arrangement. About 450 of the Travelodge trailers were produced." If trailers could talk, no doubt this one would have some very interesting stories.
In 1938, the Pierce-Arrow Motor Corporation was declared insolvent and liquidation was ordered by the court. The 1695 Elmwood Avenue Corporation was established to dispose of the company's assets. Parts and service would continue to be available through 1942. The remaining parts and tooling at the factory were scrapped for the war effort in 1942.
The Avro Arrow, a legendary Canadian design that experienced a turbulent and short ascent when the program ultimately was scrapped. The background is befitting it's story.

A nice mobile phone shot of the A380 Airbus and the Red Arrows flying in formation. I took this whilst sitting in the BAE hospitality bar drinking a free beer and watchin the air show. A good way to spend Thursday afternoon.
Black Arrow launched Britain's first and only home-launched satellite - Prospero. Black Arrow was originally designed to sit on top of Blue Streak to provide an Ariane-style multi-stage launcher and despite an reasonable record was cancelled after only four launches, the main reason for the cancellation being the small payload capacity of the rocket.

The arrow marks the spot which was selected in 1914 as the site for temporary observations of the earth's magnetic field (the lake not having been dug then). The arrow points to the then site of the Royal Greenwich Observatory.

The hour hand of the Grandfather Clock . the clock was made about 1780 in Kilmarnock, Scotland. We LOVE it!
Airshows are all about... timing! Whether you are waiting for the sun to glint on the canopy, the wings to get to the correct angle, the pilot to light the afterburners or in this case the exact split second that two planes heading in the opposite direction at high speed cross over.
These guys have a closing rate of around 800Knots (920MPH) and a separation of, well not a lot really as you can see. Awsome stuff, as our American friends would say.
