1960s Ariel Arrow and Ariel Leader, photographed in May 2012.
These two bikes have recently been lovingly restored by my father Don and his mate Richard. Both originally date from 1960 and were built by the British Ariel Motorcycle company in Birmingham. They share the same engine, a 250cc 2-stroke parallel twin but with different levels of tune producing in the region of 16 brake horsepower with a top speed of around 70 mph in favourable conditions.
In July this year my dad and brother Michael will be riding these two bikes the length of the UK from Land's End to John o' Groats raising funds for the NSPCC along the way, and this seemed like a perfect opportunity to photograph the two machines together.
To find out more about the road trip and help the fund raising effort see the blog page at top2toe2.wordpress.com. In the meantime enjoy this example of fabulous 1960's automotive styling.

RAF Red Arrows arriving at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. Ashton Court, August 2011.
This is a bit bigger than full frame - I chopped Red 1's nose off and had to stitch it back on from another photo. Had I known they would be as close as they were I'd had put a shorter one on...!
The Red Arrows are always impressive, but from the Hill at Dawlish is a completely different experience. There are all around as the display unfolds. And the last pass from the last hawk heading out to sea, nearly knocked everyone off!!

Picture Number two in my Photoseries "Arrows"
This picture didn't come out as good as I'd hoped. It's of some bow and arrow sculpture near the water and you can see the Bay Bridge in the background.
