U.S. Army soldiers take in the Korengal Valley in eastern Afghanistan. American forces occupy strategic mountaintop, and take on the Taliban insurgents. While Charlie Battery, 3rd Battalion of the 321 Field Artillery has fired more than 5,900 shells since they deployed to Afghanistan less than a year ago, making it the busiest artillery unit in the U.S. Army, according to military officers. They most often fire in support of Army infantry units fighting Taliban insurgents in the nearby Korengal Valley, which sees some of the heaviest fighting in Afghanistan.

3 Company, the 1st Battalion the Coldstream Guards took part in a joint operation with the Afghan National Army in the Babaji area of operations. The task was to dominate the ground in the area south of Patrol Base 3, to disrupt insurgent's movements, as well as engaging with the local inhabitants to develop relationships.

FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. -- The 28th Infantry Division hosted a change-of-command ceremony Sept. 16, 2012, at the installation. Brig. Gen. John L. Gronski took over command of the division from Maj. Gen. Randall R. Marchi, who will move to the Pennsylvania National Guard's Joint Force Headquarters and serve as deputy adjutant general-Army. The ceremony also featured a change of responsibility for the division's command sergeant major with the non-commissioned officer sword passing from Command Sgt. Maj. Brian W. Todero to Command Sgt. Maj. Christopher S. Kepner. The 28th Infantry Division, nicknamed the Keystone Division, is the oldest division in the U.S. Army and was nicknamed the "Bloody Bucket" division by German forces during World War II due to its distinctive red insignia. The 2021 U.S. Army Small Arms Championships kicked off its first official match today. Match 8 is an iron sight rifle match in combat gear. Soldiers shoot 10 rounds in 90 seconds in the prone from both 400 and 300 yards. Competitors then shoot another 10 rounds in 90 seconds from the kneeling/squatting position from both 200 and 100 yards.
The Match 3 course of fire included four pistol stages, for a total of 40 rounds, from the 25-yard line. Each stage required a total of 10 rounds, but were fired in two groups of five with a magazine change in the middle. Stage One was a slow fire of 60 seconds in the standing position. Stage Two was fired in a total of 45 seconds, with five rounds shot in both the kneeling and then the prone positions. Stage Three was a timed fire of 25 seconds from the standing position. And Stage Four was a rapid fire of 15 seconds from the standing position.
The Match 5 is a pistol match consisting of four stages, for a total of 40 rounds. Stage One was a standing slow fire of 10 rounds from two 5-round magazines within 25 seconds at the 35-yard line. Stage Two was a standing slow fire of 10 rounds from two 5-round magazines within 20 seconds at the 25-yard line. Stage 3 was a standing rapid fire of 10 rounds from two 5-round magazines within 15 seconds at the 15-yard line. Stage Four was a standing rapid fire of 10 rounds from two 5-round magazines within 10 seconds at the 10-yard line.
