Thundery showers over western Belgium moved northeast and I positioned myself at the shore of a lake near Rotterdam.

I hoped to catch lightning bolts together with a shelf cloud. Unfortunately the lightning stopped over the province of Zeeland. However, at sunset time, a nice arcus cloud with shelf characteristics moved over my location.

A nice start of the season......

A quick snap of the sky. On the way home from work yesterday.

Taken just days after I had smashed my Nikon D50. Strong Gust front took out best camera. Another night storm with outflow came a calling. Even with a sand bag attached to the tripod it still blew it straight over. I was only about a foot away but the wind when the storm hit was nasty bad and I wasn't able to make a saving grab.

So this set of images were taken with 5mp LG phone that I simply hated. I had no other means of taking pics. Weird how this set of images would become one of my most viewed here on Flickr.

Now for the rest of the story....

Seriously, I wasn't even going to chase that afternoon. I was bummed out about my camera and lens. Now in a few unfix able pieces. My daughter Alyssa & I were heading over to good friends to BBQ, and have some Fresh Nebraska Sweet Corn & other yummies...

Just leaving my pad, we had looked out to the Northwest, and my jaw about dropped. It was still 20+ Miles away, I just knew she was coming our way... due to radar and warnings out for western counties... but the outskirts of city limits the clouds told the tale... She was going to be a photographic beauty.

My Daughter was hungry for the BBQ but she also wanted to see this storm up close and personal. I gave her a choice... BBQ or Storm.....she wanted to see the storm and we were off to our storm adventure! It was one of the best photographic shelf clouds of 2011! Glad we were there to capture this!

Not many pics in this set due to I was driving a good percentage of time. Though what I did witness that afternoon was classic Nebraska Supercell structure!

It was another exciting local chase day in South Central Nebraska. A real treat! I didn't have to travel far from home to catch the severe weather that afternoon.

By mid afternoon, mother nature was on the prowl. Dry line had formed just about 30 miles to my west and storms were firing. Towers building and we had sufficient shear that day. We had all the right ingredients for severe weather to do her thing.

I was hoping for a photographic day, and this was the 2nd photogenic severe storm cell of that day. I wasn't expecting this opportunity. Even though NWS had downgraded this cell, it was still a sight to look at.

Arcus.....I wasn't disappointed.

Decaying shelf cloud.

Observe the right half of the scene being thick solid grey. That's the mother of all cloudbursts that flooded large swathes of Strathearn.

Note to self: do not drive under a shelf cloud again.

It's the most wonderful time of the year here (storm season!). Taken at Buffalo Lake National Wildlife Refuge (Texas, USA) in early May. We watched this storm throwing lightning bolts from afar, and we ultimately escaped as it moved closer. That beautiful shelf/arcus cloud only looked that defined for a few minutes! I knew I wanted to shoot the storm, but I felt I needed something else, too. Fortunately, the refuge is home to several old windmills.

Camera: Fujifilm X-T5

Lens: Tamron 18-300 mm

Settings: ISO 640, f/11, 1/40s, 28 mm

Shot handheld.

Stunning arcus cloud over the Dutch river landscape in the early evening.

Arch of the Sergii (Croatian: Slavoluk Sergijevaca) is an Ancient Roman triumphal arch located in Pula, Croatia. The arch commemorates three members of the Sergii family, specifically Lucius Sergius Lepidus, a tribune serving in the twenty-ninth legion that participated in the Battle of Actium and disbanded in 27 BC . This suggests an approximate date of construction: 29-27 BC. The arch stood behind the original naval gate of the early Roman colony. The Sergii were a powerful family of officials in the colony and retained their power for centuries
