A friend of mine send me this pics. I couldn't resist to share it, after a bit of post-processing. This can of cloud shows the limit between a mass of cold and hot air. Heavy thunderstorm and rain follows

Taken just days after I had smashed my Nikon D50. Strong Gust front took out best camera. Another night storm with outflow came a calling. Even with a sand bag attached to the tripod it still blew it straight over. I was only about a foot away but the wind when the storm hit was nasty bad and I wasn't able to make a saving grab.

So this set of images were taken with 5mp LG phone that I simply hated. I had no other means of taking pics. Weird how this set of images would become one of my most viewed here on Flickr.

Now for the rest of the story....

Seriously, I wasn't even going to chase that afternoon. I was bummed out about my camera and lens. Now in a few unfix able pieces. My daughter Alyssa & I were heading over to good friends to BBQ, and have some Fresh Nebraska Sweet Corn & other yummies...

Just leaving my pad, we had looked out to the Northwest, and my jaw about dropped. It was still 20+ Miles away, I just knew she was coming our way... due to radar and warnings out for western counties... but the outskirts of city limits the clouds told the tale... She was going to be a photographic beauty.

My Daughter was hungry for the BBQ but she also wanted to see this storm up close and personal. I gave her a choice... BBQ or Storm.....she wanted to see the storm and we were off to our storm adventure! It was one of the best photographic shelf clouds of 2011! Glad we were there to capture this!

It was another exciting local chase day in South Central Nebraska. A real treat! I didn't have to travel far from home to catch the severe weather that afternoon.

By mid afternoon, mother nature was on the prowl. Dry line had formed just about 30 miles to my west and storms were firing. Towers building and we had sufficient shear that day. We had all the right ingredients for severe weather to do her thing.

I was hoping for a photographic day, and this was the 2nd photogenic severe storm cell of that day. I wasn't expecting this opportunity. Even though NWS had downgraded this cell, it was still a sight to look at.

Arcus.....I wasn't disappointed.

A roll cloud (rare type of arcus cloud) appeared over downtown Richmond, Virginia, on the morning of February 5, 2018.

I had a spectacular view of it from on office on the 15th floor of the Bank of America Building.

I was almost level with the base of the cloud.

Late Night Storm Chasing... not really, this was just a few blocks from my home. Though a week after my injury, it was effecting my health. Severe back and neck pain due to the infection spreading... I still challenged myself to get out. It was painful but as you see, I was more than successful. It was definitely worth my time to get out that late night. I needed to do so, my spirit need to be recharged.

Beautiful crystal blue lightning illuminated the night as the arcus (shelf cloud) approached from the due west. Got to my location and set up and went to town... Oh was this worth it!!!

Before the rain storm with the strong Arcus cloud panorama

Hello, arcus cloud! This is the leading edge of a rather dramatic squall line roaring through central Kansas, May 26, 2006. I think most chasers avoid squalls because they find them boring, but when they get worked up real well like this one, I love them; they're some of the most visually striking stuff out there and relatively easy to reposition on. Not sure why the rain came out purple -- I suspect it's a mixture of the rainshaft / hailshaft colors and the colors of the setting sun.

This was an amazing storm.

Massive shelf cloud slowly goes to the east.

Following the success of Nova Team the Federation council decided to experiment with other smaller groups of specialists. One such group was the Arcus Team. Using some of the equipment first developed by Nova team, such as the brand new Orion EVA Spacesuit Mark II, Arcus specialised in the expansion and maintenance of the Federations communication network. From troubleshooting a glitch on a satellite relay to setting up a new sub-node on a recently settled moon Arcus Team were to guys to call.

It is a privilege to own four custom figures with Rob Damiao's spacesuit design. Look out for more adventures of Arcus team coming soon (although not on the scale of Nova team)!

Thanks Rob :D

Q: Why did the Arcus cloud cross the road? A: To get to the chicken!

This is the moment that the storm front (squall line) caught up with me. I had been chasing it… or it me, for about fifteen minutes, going high speed down dirt roads to keep ahead of the cloud mass. It was traveling at well over 50 mph, and as I came up to this road and pulled over to snap a few more, complete pandemonium was breaking out on the roadway (pictured here). I saw several storm chasers skidding their cars across the median… one almost spun out… all in order to reposition themselves. Truly, the most dangerous aspect of storm chasing is dealing with the distracted chasers as they drive their vehicles… not the clouds themselves

The Arcus Center for Social Justice opened in the fall of 2014. Designed with sustainability and use of local materials in mind the design is striking and novel. It should come as no surprise that it was Chicago's famous Studio Gang was the architect.

I personally love how this building will fade into the surrounding landscape over the coming years. I know that there were some neighbors who weren't happy with the plans but hopefully in time this building will be seen as a local landmark.

The use of cordwood masonry on the exterior walls is fascinating to me. The walls are beautiful, warm, and textured. One thing that is strange is that it appears that the building was built without any kind of control joints in its exterior walls. In a typical masonry wall you need to allow for movement or thermal expansion every 20 fee or so (or wherever the wall height changes). It doesn't appear that this building has any. I wonder if that is because wood has different properties than brick or stone or if it was an oversight by the builder or the architect. Time will tell.

n. Curved structure as support for a bridge, roof, floor, etc., or as ornament... From Rom. _arca_, n. pl, by-form of L _arcus_ arc.

Pompeii, Italy: by the Temple of Jupiter.

The large inscription reads: M•AGRIPPA•L•F•COS•TERTIVM•FECIT

or in full, "M[arcus] Agrippa L[ucii] f[ilius] co[n]s[ul] tertium fecit," meaning "Marcus Agrippa, son of Lucius, made [this building] when consul for the third time.

A smaller size inscription below reads: IMP • CAES • L • SEPTIMIVS • SEVERVS • PIVS • PERTINAX • ARABICVS • ADIABENICVS • PARTHICVS • MAXIMVS • PONTIF • MAX • TRIB • POTEST • X • IMP • XI • COS • III • P • P • PROCOS  ET

IMP • CAES • M • AVRELIVS • ANTONINVS • PIVS • FELIX • AVG • TRIB • POTEST • V • COS • PROCOS • PANTHEVM • VETVSTATE • CORRVPTVM • CVM • OMNI • CVLTV • RESTITVERVNT

In English, this means:

Emp[eror] Caes[ar] L[ucius] Septimius Severus Pius Pertinax, victorious in Arabia, victor of Adiabene, the greatest victor in Parthia, Pontif[ex] Max[imus], 10 times tribune, 11 times proclaimed emperor, three times consul, P[ater] P[atriae], proconsul, and

Emp[eror] Caes[ar] M[arcus] Aurelius Antoninus Pius Felix Aug[ustus], five times tribune, consul, proconsul, have carefully restored the Pantheon ruined by age.

The Pantheon is one of the best-preserved monuments of ancient Rome. The structure, completed around 126-128 A.D. during the reign of Emperor Hadrian, features a rotunda with a massive domed ceiling that was the largest of its kind when it was built. The Pantheon is situated on the site of an earlier structure of the same name, built around 25 B.C. by statesman Marcus Agrippa, and is thought to have been designed as a temple for Roman gods.

The present-day Pantheon is located on the site of an earlier structure of the same name, constructed around 25 B.C. by statesman Marcus Agrippa, son-in-law of the first Roman emperor, Augustus.

The original Pantheon was destroyed in a fire around 80 A.D. It was rebuilt by Emperor Domitian, only to be burned down again in 110 A.D.

Hadrian became emperor in 117, during which time the present structure was built. It’s unknown who the existing Pantheon’s architect was or exactly what role Hadrian played in the project. Evidence suggests the Pantheon was dedicated around 126-128 A.D., although construction might have started under Hadrian’s predecessor, Trajan, who served as emperor from 98 to 117.

It’s uncertain why, but Hadrian put Agrippa’s original inscription on the new Pantheon—“Marcus Agrippa the son of Lucius, three times consul, made this”—which led to centuries of years of confusion about its origins.

When the artist Michelangelo saw the Pantheon, centuries after its construction, he reportedly said it was the design of angels, not of man. The Pantheon proved an important influence for the great Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, as well as countless architects who followed, in Europe and beyond.

Thomas Jefferson modeled both Monticello—his home near Charlottesville, Virginia—as well as the Rotunda building at the University of Virginia, after the Pantheon. The U.S. Capitol rotunda was inspired by the Pantheon, as were various American state capitols.[www.history.com]

Beautiful underside of shelf cloud (the cold and warm air interface of a storm) approaching me during the afternoon with a surprise cloud to ground "CG" lightning bolt striking in frame. It is a little shakey up close sadly kinda blurry if you zoom in because I was adrenaline pumped and the shutter speed was slowed down to compensate for lack of bright light. It was in my favor for that lightning bolt.
