Originally founded by Ed Mabry, the Mabry Mill operated as a combination saw mill, grist mill and blacksmith shop from 1910 until 1935. Water powered grist mills like this in the southern highlands region provided a valuable service to the local community. Today Mabry Mill remains one of the most famous and highly photographed rural life attractions along the Blue Ridge Parkway. From www.blueridgeparkwaystore.com/cats/1866_forever-resorts-m...

Built at the turn of the last century, the Saint Petka Church was actually patterned in the style of the Byzantines. They had developed this form of architecture, best exemplified by the Hagia Sophia Cathedral (now a museum) in Constantinople (now Istanbul), built by Emperor Justinian in the 530s.

The pink Parish Church dominates the landscape of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
The current Parish Church of San Miguel is unique in Mexico and the emblem of the town. It has a Neo-gothic facade with two tall towers that can be seen from most parts of town. It is one of the most photographed churches in Mexico. The church was built in the 17th century with a more conventional facade. However, it was remade in 1880 by Zeferino Gutierrez, who was an indigenous bricklayer and self-taught architect. Gutierrez's inspiration came from postcards and lithographs of Gothic churches in Europe; however, the interpretation is his own and if more a work of imagination than a faithful reconstruction. In front of this facade is a small atrium, which is guarded by a wrought iron fence.
San Miguel de Allende is a city located in the far eastern part of the state of Guanajuato in central Mexico. It is 274 km from Mexico City and 97 km from the state capital of Guanajuato.
The town has attracted a very large number of foreign retirees, artists, writers and tourists, which is shifting the area’s economy from agriculture and industry to commerce catering to outside visitors and residents. The main attraction of the town is its well-preserved historic center, filled with buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. "ROTUNDA SAGRADA FAMILIA"

This mill is located in Amherst Virginia, its history is a bit unknown from sources on the internet. The mill today is used as a game checking station. I would venture to guess this mill was established in the late 1800's
This mill was still operational in 1946 when milling equipment was brought to it from Sandidge's Mill also located in Amherst.

Cyrus Hall McCormick invented the first successful reaper and founded the harvesting machine industry. In July 1831, at 22 years of age, McCormick first demonstrated his invention publicly. This, the world's first successful mechanical reaper, opened a new era in agriculture, an age of mechanization that changed life on the farm, altered American advertising, and made it possible for millions of people to leave the land and enter an industrial society.
Last utilized for grinding wheat in 1931, the grist mill is believed to date prior to 1800. Its typical overshot wheel, generating about 17 horsepower, is propelled by water from the pond.

Last night, a crowd of 20,782 came out to see the Denver Broncos practice at Mile High Stadium. (Yes, it was only a "Practice", not even a real game.) Tebowmania is in full swing, as most of these fans probably came out to see our new rookie quarterback, Tim Tebow.
Tebow will wear number 15 on his jersey for the Broncos, the same number he wore in college. He set an NFL Draft record for jersey sales. He has also had the best-selling jersey in the entire NFL each month since being drafted. The Broncos, as a whole, have led the NFL among all teams in jersey sales as well. (Wikipedia)
Kobe Chinatown (Nankin-machi "Nanjing town") (Japanese: 南京町; Simplified Chinese: 南京町) is located in Kobe, Japan. One of only 3 designated Chinatowns in Japan, Nankinmachi is situated south of Motomachi station adjacent to the elegant Daimaru Department Store. This small, yet lively enclave is home to not only one of the few remaining Chinese communities in the nation, it is also a major tourist attraction. The area is packed with over 100 Chinese restaurants, shops, a Chinese temple(関帝廟), making it a great place to browse for Asian trinkets, CDs, and old vinyl records. Unlike its counterparts in Yokohama and Nagasaki, Kobe's Nankinmachi sets itself apart as being the most colorful and foreign-looking Chinatown in all of Japan.

Kobe Ohashi - Red Arch Bridge, Port of Kobe, Japan.
Kobe Ohashi (o-hashi means bridge in Japanese) connects the mainland to Port Island, a reclaimed land structure which finally connects to Kobe Airport. The bridge was constructed in 1970 along with the Port Terminal, and even today it is the only connection between Kobe Airport and the main city of Kobe. Significant reconstruction was undertaken post the Hanshin Earthquake since the automobile expressway was rendered completely unusable. The reconstruction was completed in July of 1996 and one cannot even tell any signs of the disaster today. The Port Terminal Station on the Sannomiya side of the bridge is also a famous spot to view the summer fireworks.
Kobe (神戸市 Kōbe-shi) is the sixth-largest city in Japan and is the capital city of Hyōgo Prefecture on the southern side of the main island of Honshū, approximately 500 km (310.69 mi) west of Tokyo. Kobe is a prominent port city with a population of about 1.5 million. The city is located in the Kansai region of Japan and is part of the Keihanshin (京阪神 Keihanshin) metropolitan area along with Osaka and Kyoto.
On January 17, 1995 an earthquake measuring at 7.3 on the Richter magnitude scale occurred at 5:46 am JST near the city. 6,434 people in the city were killed, 212,443 were made homeless, and large parts of the port facilities and other parts of the city were destroyed. The earthquake destroyed portions of the Hanshin Expressway, an elevated freeway that dramatically toppled over. In Japan, the earthquake is known as the Great Hanshin Earthquake (or the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake). To commemorate Kobe's recovery from the 1995 quake, the city holds an event every December called the Luminarie, where the city center is decorated with illuminated metal archways.
Kobe Port was Japan's busiest port and one of Asia's top ports until the Great Hanshin Earthquake. Kobe has since dropped to the fourth in Japan and forty-fifth busiest container port worldwide (as of 2008).

Mabry Mill was built by Edwin Boston Mabry (E.B. Mabry). E.B. Mabry returned to Floyd County in 1903 and began the construction of the mill. It was first a blacksmith and wheelwright shop, then became a sawmill. By 1905 it was in operation as a gristmill. By 1910 the front part of the mill was completed and included a lathe for turning out wheel hubs, a tongue and groove lathe, a planer and a jig-saw. Between 1905 and 1914 E.B. Mabry bought adjacent tracts of land, mostly for the purpose of acquiring more water power.

It was organized in 1845 and built about 100 yards south of the brick building that housed the Jonesboro Free Church. The first church was a frame building of rectangular shape. A gallery around the two sides and one end gave additional room when needed. Steps on each side led to the gallery. A door on each side of the front of the building led into the sanctuary. The center row of pews had a division through the center form the back of the church to the front. The ladies always sat on the left and the men on the right side of this division.
In 1857, aware of that the old building was in a decaying state, Reverend Thomas W. Roberts, and members began to raise pledges for a new house of worship. This frame building was to be erected on a plot donated about 1858 by Dr. Thomas Massie of Blue Rock. The same site the present building occupies was practically the same spot on which this second building stood. The frame for the building was erected when all work ceased for the Civil War. A storm blew the building over with such severe dames, that following the Civil War it had to be re-cut and erected the second time. It was not completed for eighteen years.
In the fall of 1878, the final construction of the building was completed. The walls were whitewashed, church blinds corniced, the pulpit furniture painted the grounds enclosed with plank fence, and a grove made suitable for outside worship in 1879. By 1893, work was begun to enclose the church grounds to protect the building from abuse from the public highway.
Years later, the church realized the need for more space. W.R. Burnham, an architect from Lynchburg, surveyed and drew plans for the building in 1913. Church members were to lay all foundation stones from the old building and haul all materials from the Arrington depot. After the old building was torn down, the church met at Fleetwood High School and the Odd fellows Hall in Massies Mill for a short time. In April 1914, The Sunday School Auditorium was ready and used for worship. A memorial window in the choir of the present church bears testimony to the regard for Brother Martin, pastor from 1883 to 1898.
From www.nelsonscenicloop.com/jonesboro-baptist-church/
Unusual for the the area is the Gothic Revival style of this church. At the turn of the 1900's there was a movement for churches of this style which was called the Gothic Gospel.
In a sense the church looks much like a medieval English castle complete with battlements on top of the parapets. The windows with the Ogee arches was an influence from 14 century Arab architecture, common in much Gothic designs.
The tall slender windows are also taken from an English castle style which had the original function of being places for archers to provide defensive positions. Of course, this is only of decorative style in this building.
The Jonesboro Baptist Church grew out of a late eighteenth-
century interdenominational church comprised of
Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians and Dunkards. Its
places of worship have been many through the centuries,
but the present site has been home to the Baptists since
1861. The third building, including the 1914 era seats, is
preserved as a part of the present building
