Bridge Cuts, Frank and partners' hairdressing salon, sits on the road just below the railway bridge and just above the River Itchen.

Sometimes my short walk from the car park along the river path yields photo opportunities; sometimes I make my own as I did yesterday when I asked Frank if he would pose for a mono portrait.

Being a photographer himself, he was happy to oblige, and, looking round at the array of mirrors, I suggested we try for a reflection shot. I think it worked OK and I was lucky to arrive for my appointment in a pause in Frank's busy stream of hairdressing clients.

I'm sending him some photos with thanks for indulging me and I hope he is having a restful Sunday.

My appointment was for 5:00.

Another shot from the back-catalogue that didn't make the cut at the time and which, coincidentally, also features a castle.

The fine backdrop in this case is Windsor Castle, and the station is Windsor & Eton Riverside. A pair of South Western Trains 4-car 'Desiro' units, 450072 and 450089, stand waiting departure time with the 2.51pm service to London Waterloo (2U44).

In proof that money and nobility talked, the town is served by two very ornately constructed Victorian stations. But perhaps it's the ex-Great Western Railway's 'Windsor & Eton Central', now served by a three-times an hour train from Slough, that's the most elaborate.

Sadly much of the most elegant part of that station has been repurposed as shops and commercial premises, so many of the poor passengers have to disembark from beyond the roof shelter, hardly convenient in poor weather. Apparently money still talks - but perhaps now from rather less noble origins.

Nothing arty about this upload, but it was nice to incorporate the King's sometime residence for once. Sad to say I didn't have time to pop in for afternoon tea this time around....

The lonely beaches of Skallingen at the Danish West Coast on a cloudy summer evening. Love this feeling of simply sitting on a dune doing nothing but using my senses. Skallingen, Jylland, Denmark

If I'd have known I was going here today, I'd have used this for my PoTD, because after I'd uploaded that, Huw took me for an appointment in my Parkinson's Clinic where I learned that the meds I'm taking may be the cause of something else. Taken through someone's wineglass at Verdi's , Knab Rock, Mumbles after I'd walked totally unaided from the clinic to the car and from the car to Verdis and half way back to the car again when my legs go tired that I used my rollator.

Antoni Gallart.

The Moon and the castle II. (Castellet - Catalonia)

Photograph dedicated to my good friend Amparo García Iglesias, for letting me know about the upcoming event.

One day my dear friend Amparo García, told me that we would have our moon very large, so I decided to go to Castellet Castle to photograph it with the castle in the foreground, but still on the road when I get closer I see that it looks out from behind the castle and I see that I have to move to the right to better frame it, so I saw a dirt road going into an extension of vineyards, I give a blow of the wheel and I get into the darkness inside the vineyards, as if from a love appointment It was, but with the exception that I was alone in front of the Moon.

I assembled my equipment and located the best point and I waited ... I made several shots and I went out to the base of the castle to make other plans that are already other photos.

Note: I was very lazy to go at night and alone, but I thought that the setting could be the most picturesque and I went for it.

Seeing the results and as a token of appreciation, for this I dedicated it to my dear friend, who is always ready for help if necessary.

I dedicated it to you when it came to light and I dedicate it to you today dear Amparo, a big hug.

Antoni Gallart.

It seems that I'm always on my way to an appointment or a commitment when I stumble across a scene such as this.

Ah...to be a vlogger, setting up my GoPro on a tripod, following my footsteps as I traipse through pastures of low-lying fog, scouting out compositions as my drone tracks my movements from above, for those awesome cinematic aerials. Time. Planning out the exact location of the sunrise over the peak of a barn's roof with my PhotoPills app. Time. Deciding on the proper location, the correct lens, height of the camera, encompass more in the foreground or less, vertical or horizonal, (sorry, portrait or landscape) hay, I still think of ISO, as ASA. Exposure setting's, viewing histograms, checking previews for sharpness. In a perfect world all of this requires time. Time I just did not have yesterday morning. Rolling past this beautiful scene on the way to my doctor's appointment forty miles away, (despite leaving early and facing a no-show fee of $50.00 for being late, or the dreaded re-schedule), I was tempted to just fly by and chalk it up as the one that got away. Time. But I know how I am! I had to stop. I backed my car up about a 1/8th mile, blinkers on of course, to get the right composition. I quickly rolled down my window, grabbed my K70 with a 300mm lens on it, only because it had the only SD card in it that I brought. Nope, wrong focal length. I then grabbed my K3 with the Tamron 70-200, perfect. A quick change of the SD card into the K3 body, and I was ready to shoot. Time. I'm going to be late, keep shooting! Moving the car forward and backward I was able to change the composition, all before the sun turned to blahness. I'm really going to be late!

Even the best vlogger's leave the scene when they except that the images they got, are the best that they could get. I left knowing that, with the little time I had to shoot, I did OK. Ah, to be vlogger.

PS, In good health, no late fees, and no dreaded re-schedule!

another appointment in Saratoga Springs

We are hoping that next week will be the last week we will be making these trips. We love the area, but the drive is tedious, and the program isn't ideal for us right now. We have been working hard on setting up help closer to home, and we are almost ready.

So today is not officially my wedding anniversary unless in your part of the world it is August 15th then it is.

That being said...today GP had his appointment at the dr. to check his blood pressure so I decided to meet up with him at the main branch of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library saving me having to go back to get him. While there, I grabbed a couple of magazines and a couple of books on photoshop. I still had time to kill so figured I would go take a load off and grab a cold drink at the little cafe they have there. While sitting there, I happen to notice this older gentleman at the counter being helped by one of the staff.

"Please, can you watch my drink and books" I say to the lady operating the cash..."I think I know that gentleman and I would love to go say hi because I have not seen him for twenty years [tomorrow]".

I go up and see that he has finished being helped to find his book and reach down and say "John, is that you?". Wondering of course if it was my very good family friend Judge John Mattheson. The same John Ross Matheson, OC , CD , QC , LL.M. , LL.D. (born November 14, 1917) who is a retired Officer of the Canadian Armed Forces, a veteran, an Honourary Colonel in numerous regiments (that's where I knew him from), a Canadian lawyer, a judge, and politician who helped develop both the maple leaf flag and the Order of Canada as well as how my kids know him as "the nice man who officiated at mum and dad's wedding" Twenty years ago on August 15th in Perth Ontario when he was still at sitting judge in the Court.

I remember calling his secretary at the Court House..."I would like to have Judge Matheson marry my fiance and me if possible"...Secretary.."no, he doesn't marry people"..."oh..well I am a good friend so perhaps I could talk to him so he could recommend someone"...next thing a few week later, I am standing in front of my good friend in his Chambers at the Perth Court House telling him "now no need to use my middle name John...just do you Sharon will be fine" and when it came time to say "Do you Sharon (he enunciated GLADYS....knowing that (a) I didnt' like my middle name but more importantly because (b) it was my mum's so he said it for her)....take Michael Robert..."....

I could not believe it! it was like something from the twilight zone running into him exactly twenty years later!

We talked about alot of things...about General McNaughton and the fact that I have photos of the funeral in Ottawa ...my mum had them as my dad's best friend was a pall bearer....about General Leslie...about his [John's] family and grandkids, about his wife of 63 years Edith...about the war... I always loved hearing his stories from World War II at mess dinners that we attended and, I got to hear a few while we had our visit in the library. I asked him about his famous skydive that he took a few years back at CFB Trenton...he said he wanted to go up again but alas DND would not allow him to go up..."liabilities and all"..we laughed...I told him about Lucy (a gal who also knew John from the Regiment) that she was teaching skydiving and flying but I had lost touch with her years ago as well. He said he wished he could buy us [GP and I] a gift for our anniversary and I told him that the best gift I could have would be if he would wait and his photo taken with me so I could show GP. "Always carry a camera" ... good advice from my daughter jaunty_spider.

So, I run to the car, grab the camera from my back pack and run back across the street to see if one of the librarians would do me the favour of taking a photo of John and I. We talked some more of the book he had in his hand that he was hoping to read.

We were just getting ready for a photo when who comes in but GP!! GP was as blown away as I was to run into him of all days! John was concerned if his hair looked okay...me I was concerned that I have gained a gagillion pounds in twenty years but what the heck I think the three of us look none too shabby for a chance meeting in the library.

I could not have asked for a better gift!! A Photo of John Matheson, GP and I twenty years later! Of course, now I have to "root through the boxes" of photos to find the ones of us then with John because we want to put one up on the wall of "then and "now"...but for now I will be happy with this one of "then and now".

And for GP and the rest of you... Two Awesome Voices - the late Pavarotti and the late Barry White !

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all know that I appreciate your comments, awards and invites however, they are not necessary....just sharing this with you is enough.
