3 generations used this high chair, now unique and antique. Decay set in, a leg broke off... After a long search I found (or rather my furniture restorer found) an old 'traveler' who had learned the craft from father to son. Now restored to its former glory and waiting for the 4th generation...

The oldest surviving stone building in Riga, survived from the Castle of the Sword Brotherhood Order, founded in 1202, currently houses Museum of Decorative and Design Art. The church was developed on the basis of a meeting place and later – a chapel. It is the only Romanesque monument in Riga. Church of St. George was founded at the beginning of the 13th century on the initiative of the Order of Livonian Brothers of the Sword, as the chapel of the first castle, or rather an order court. In 1297 it was damaged during battles between the townspeople and the order, fortunately, unlike the neighbouring castle, it avoided total destruction. In the mid-sixteenth century, due to the Reformation, the temple was closed and the building began to be used as a warehouse.

Haar or sea fret along the dunes. Haar is typically formed over the sea and is blown to the land by the wind. This commonly occurs when warmer moist air moves over the relatively cooler North Sea causing the moisture in the air to condense, forming haar.

Mist komt op boven zee wanneer koude lucht over relatief warm zeewater stroomt of wanneer warme lucht in aanraking komt met een koude zee. -As the collections expanded, a building was erected to accommodate them. The opening of the Museum building on 25 October 1896, attended by the monarch, Francis Joseph, was the grand event marking the end of Hungary's Millennium celebrations.

The Museum's first two directors, György Ráth (1828–1905) and Jenő Radisics (1856–1917), were internationally renowned figures who provided the Museum with extensive and lively contacts at home and abroad, and the collections benefited accordingly.

Jenő Radisics takes the credit for laying the foundations of the Art Nouveau collection, particularly through his purchases at the Paris World's Fair of 1900 and at the Christmas exhibitions held in the Museum each year. He also acquired outstanding items for the historical collection.

After Gyula Végh took over in 1917, contacts with art collectors began to dominate. The Friends of the Museum Association also took an active part in acquiring many fine items and collections.

The National Collections Alliance was set up in 1922 to collectively promote the interests of several public collections. Between 1934 and 1948, the Museum of Applied Arts temporarily lost its independence and became the applied arts branch of the Hungarian National Museum.
