Having absolutely no technical awareness at all, I am struggling mightily with this entirely new system as comfort levels have been totally destroyed...and I haven't even done anything but try to configure photos, editing, and Flickr into some kind of coherent pattern which will become my new habitual morning routine. In so doing, I'm getting beeps and buzzers galore attacking me from some unknown universe for no apparent reason; I have to retype everything numerous times due to the new mini-keyboard; and I always seem to end up entering some type of "no navigation" zone in which further progress is disallowed and I have to return to the start.
In any event, I'm sure understandings will be reached within the next millenium. In the meantime, gazing at photos like this and drinking a cup of tea helps to ease the pain. And I promise to quit whining henceforth...;-)

Despite very low temperatures which make us think we live in the South Pole, this rose tree is full of rosebuds in my garden. But they won't bloom !

Les buses variables sont des rapaces apparemment calmes et se font surtout remarquer quand elles cerclent dans le ciel en piaulant. Quand la buse se livre à ces démonstrations de vol, elle ne chasse pas, contrairement à ce que pensent la plupart des gens. Les buses chassent essentiellement à l’affût posé à base hauteur sur une branche, un piquet ou un coin dominant les prairies, parfois quand il y a beaucoup de vent en vol stationnaire, un peu comme le faucon crécerelle. En effet elle n’est pas assez habile en vol pour virevolter sur place et plonger sur sa proie comme le fait le milan royal. En général en vol elle surveille son territoire et le marque par sa présence ostensible, soit elle prend une ascendance aérienne pour gagner de la hauteur, et se laisser glisser un peu plus loin, ou aussi en vols de parade nuptiale, elle monte dans le ciel en cerclant et en criant, pour ensuite se laisser tomber en réalisant des remontées et des piqués successifs, ailes fermées, au-dessus du territoire de reproduction. On parle alors de vol en feston.

In Britain, these birds occur in winter in good numbers principally along the east and south coasts, where they favour rocky shorelines adjacent to the sea.
It is much rarer as a breeding bird, found only in a localised area of the Cairngorms National Park, where 1–3 pairs have bred since the 1970s. Records of breeding by this species in the UK are monitored and archived by the Rare Breeding Birds Panel.
They are late migrants and move to rocky ice-free Atlantic coasts in winter. most go no further south than North Carolina and northern Portugal. They are fairly gregarious, forming small flocks, often with ruddy turnstones. This species is tame and approachable.
Their breeding habitat is the northern tundra on Arctic islands in Canada and coastal areas in Greenland and northwestern Europe. They nest on the ground either elevated on rocks or in lower damp location. The males makes several scrapes; the female chooses one and lays 3 or 4 eggs. The male takes the major responsibility for incubation and tends the chicks. The young feed themselves.
An apparent case of hybridization between this species and the dunlin has been reported from England.
A couple of pairs nest in Scotland, but this species is mainly a winter visitor to almost any rocky coast in the UK. Most are found in Orkney, Shetland and along the east coast of Scotland and northern England - it is scarce south of Yorkshire, other than Devon and Cornwall. The breeding areas in Scotland are kept secret to protect the birds from egg thieves and disturbance.
It is listed on Schedule 1 of The Wildlife and Countryside Act.
Agé de 150 ans, ce cèdre est planté dans l’arboretum du domaine départemental de la Vallée-aux-Loups, à Châtenay-Malabry (Hauts-de-Seine).
Ses branchages se déploient pour retomber en cascade jusqu’au sol et confèrent au cèdre bleu pleureur de l’Atlas une apparence arachnéenne.
Ses dimensions sont impressionnantes: 14 mètres de long et 700 m2 de ramure.
Ce cèdre a remporté le prix national de l’arbre 2015.

..L'Agrion élégant est le plus commun de nos odonates. Il possède 2 taches rondes colorées sur l dessus de la tête.
-envergure 40 mm- tache ailaire noire au centre, bordée de blanc.- eaux lentes riches en végétations manque dans les tourbières bombées . Les femelles présentent des colorations extrêmement variées. Certaines son d'apparences semblables aux mâles. La couleur change suivent la forme à laquelle appartient la femelle mais aussi de son âge; du rose violacé au brun foncé

....travelling is a privilege, grateful and lucky to be able to experience a new place!
. .. Newfoundland was a bucket list place to visit. The 2 things I hoped to see most was an iceberg and a Puffin. yay :) (Puffin photo coming soon)
.....As such you can imagine how incredible this was to witness part of this iceberg falling off and crashing into the ocean!... ..still in complete awe! lol . The sound and details of it collapsing!..the wave it created. the chances to witness such a thing in nature! (and safely) :) I will treasure the moment forever.
The color, and size was magnificent! every angle is a completely new look to an iceberg. I will be posting more:)
Even though I researched the best time to see icebergs, it does not always guarantee you will. Apparently last year there were none in this area. Twillingate.(part of iceberg alley)...it all depends on the weather, currents, wind direction etc.

Last weekend, as we were making the tour of the wine vineyards, I spotted this 1948 Pontiac just sitting out in the parking area for no apparent reason. Anyway, it makes great material for a Slider Sunday shot..:)

Le mandrill (Mandrillus sphinx) est un primate de la famille des cercopithécidés, apparenté au babouin et très proche du drill. Victime de la déforestation et du braconnage, le mandrill est menacé d'extinction.

L'espèce est présente en Afrique, uniquement dans les forêts de plaine du Cameroun, du Gabon, de Guinée équatoriale et de République du Congo. Le Citron, Gonepteryx rhamni, fait partie des rares papillons à nous faire profiter de sa présence toute l’année, partout en France et ce, dans les prairies, milieux humides, et jardins.
De fait, il détient le record de longévité puisqu’il peut vivre jusqu’à 12 mois avec une longue période d’hivernation.
Lorsque le froid fait son apparition, il se camoufle dans les buissons et notamment ceux de lierre, ayant une préférence pour les endroits ouverts ; on peut toutefois l’apercevoir lors des journées ensoleillées.
Ce petit papillon diurne d’une envergure comprise entre 47 et 56 mm arbore une apparence différente selon s’il est un mâle ou une femelle. Si le papillon est entièrement jaune citron, pas de doute possible, c’est un mâle ! Il présente également une tâche ronde orangée sur la face supérieure des ailes.
La couleur de la femelle est plutôt blanc verdâtre.
In addition to capturing the moon last evening with the 960mm Equivalent setup on the tripod, I also took a capture of Jupiter and its moons at the same focal length. While close in the sky, they were NOT this close ... but I combined them in Photoshop so you can compare their apparent size as seen in our heavens.
Recommend zooming in large to view so you can see the several of the moons there next to Jupiter, as well as some of the stripes on the planet can be seen.
Due to the weather being so unpredictable at the moment here in Berlin, getting out is proving problematic. So indoor photography ensures, this my friend's Orchid luckily placed by a window so natural light wasn't too much of a problem to find. Also the D5600 has a more wider and more apparent D-Active Lighting feature which helped fill in the gaps, so to speak.
Hoping the weather improves soon as we fast approach my favourite time of year, Spring, I hope it's a warm one and I get out and really play with my new toy! I must admit, photography can be a little overwhelming with the technology and all things considered, so even from the D3400 to the my new camera, there is a lot to learn, remember and think about.

Before I'm going to dedicate myself to the first spring flowers in my garden this weekend, here a small memory to the remarkable beautiful winter we’ve got behind us.
It was one of the coldest days of this winter, when I stood on that field, in an icy wind not long after sunrise. The apparent temperature was lower than minus 20 degrees und I couldn't stand it for long here. With all that glistening ice crystals around me and the veil of mist between the mountains of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains that scenery seem to be from another world. This is already one of my favourite shots of this year.
Bevor ich mich am Wochenenden den ersten Frühlingsblumen in meinem Garten widmen werde, hier noch eine kleine Erinnerung an den bemerkenswert schönen Winter der hinter uns liegt.
Es war einer der kältesten Tage des Winters, als ich kurz nach Sonnenaufgang in einem eisigen Wind auf diesem Feld stand. Die gefühlte Temperatur war unter minus 20 Grad und lange habe ich es hier auch nicht ausgehalten. Mit den glitzerden Eiskristallen überall um mich herum und den Dunstschleiern zwischen den Bergen des Elbsandsteingebirges wirkte diese Szene, wie aus einer anderen Welt. Das ist jetzt schon eins meiner Lieblingsbilder aus diesem Jahr.

L'Ordre des Odonates regroupe les Libellules et les Agrions ou Demoiselles.
Ce sont tous des insectes de taille moyenne ou grande. La plus grande libellule actuelle mesure 19 cm d'envergure, celle de son ancêtre du Paléozoïque atteignait 60 cm.
Les Odonates ont de grands yeux composés et des antennes de très petite taille.
Leur appareil buccal est de type broyeur.
Les Odonates sont des prédateurs tant à l'état larvaire qu'adulte. Les 4 ailes sont de taille égale (Zygoptères) ou peu différente (Anisoptères).
L'abdomen comporte 10 segments bien apparents et un 11ème réduit.
Les larves sont aquatiques et peuvent vivre entre 1 et 3 ans.
L'accouplement se déroule en vol, le mâle tient la femelle au niveau du cou par une sorte de pince située à l'extrémité de son abdomen, la femelle courbe alors le sien vers l'avant pour mettre en contact son orifice génital terminal avec celui du mâle situé au niveau du 9ème segment.
Il y a 5700 espèces d'Odonates dans le Monde et environ 120 en Europe.

The Order of Odonata includes Dragonflies and Agrions or Damselflies.
They are all medium or large insects. The largest dragonfly today measures 19 cm in scale, that of its ancestor from the Paleozoic reached 60 cm.
Odonata have large compound eyes and very small antennae.
Their oral appliance is of the grinder type.
Odonata are predators both in larvae and in adults. The 4 wings are of equal size (Zygoptères) or little different (Anisoptères).
The abdomen has 10 clearly visible segments and a reduced 11th.
The larvae are aquatic and can live between 1 and 3 years.
Mating takes place in flight, the male holds the female at the level of the neck by a sort of forceps located at the end of his abdomen, the female then curves hers forward to bring her terminal genital orifice into contact with that of the male located at the level of the 9th segment.
There are 5700 species of Odonates worldwide and around 120 in Europe.

I'd noticed a few times that the Hares often shadow boxed early in the morning - but on examining the photo this habit became apparent - They were shaking of the early morning dew after they had just ran across the wet grass

Snow Bunting - Plectrophenax Nivalis
Snow buntings are large buntings, with striking 'snowy' plumages. Males in summer have all white heads and underparts contrasting with a black mantle and wing tips. Females are a more mottled above. In autumn and winter birds develop a sandy/buff wash to their plumage and males have more mottled upperparts.
Globally, they breed around the arctic from Scandinavia to Alaska, Canada and Greenland and migrate south in winter. They are a scarce breeding species in the UK, in Scotland, making them an Amber List species. They are more widespread in winter in the north and east when residents are joined by continental birds.
They are listed under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife & Countryside Act.
The snow bunting lives in very high latitudes in the Arctic tundra. There is no apparent limit to its northern range, while the southern range is limited by the duration of daylight, which influences their reproductive activity. This species is found in the high Arctic tundra of North America, Ellesmere Island, Iceland, higher mountains of Scotland, Norway, Russia, North Greenland, Siberia, Novaya Zemlya, and Franz Josef Land. During the winter, this bird migrates to the circumglobal northern temperate zone including the south of Canada, north of the United States, north of Germany, Poland, Ukraine, and east to central Asia. During the last ice age, the snow bunting was widespread throughout continental Europe.
During the breeding period the snow bunting looks for rocky habitats in the Arctic Since the vegetation in the tundra is low growing, this bird and its nestlings are exposed to predators, and in order to ensure the survival of its offspring, the snow bunting nests in cavities in order to protect the nestlings from any threat. During this period, buntings also look for a habitat rich in vegetation such as wet sedge meadows and areas rich in dryas and lichens. In the winter, they look for open habitats such as farms and fields where they feed on seeds in the ground.

Gur-e Amir is Persian for "Tomb of the King". This architectural complex with its azure dome contains the tombs of Tamerlane (Timur), his sons Shah Rukh and Miran Shah and grandsons Ulugh Beg and Muhammad Sultan. Also honoured with a place in the tomb is Timur's teacher Sayyid Baraka.
The earliest part of the complex was built at the end of the 14th century by the orders of Muhammad Sultan.
The construction of the mausoleum itself began in 1403 after the sudden death of Muhammad Sultan, Tamerlane's heir apparent and his beloved grandson, for whom it was intended. Timur had built himself a smaller tomb in Shahrisabz near his Ak-Saray palace. However, when Timur died in 1405 on campaign on his military expedition to China, the passes to Shahrisabz were snowed in, so he was buried here instead.
Ulugh Beg, another grandson of Tamerlane, completed the work. During his reign the mausoleum became the family crypt of the Timurid Dynasty.

Spotted at Lake Martin in South Louisiana, this American Alligator (of Cajun descent) was enjoying his privacy....but always wary of his surroundings.
Although no true scale is readily apparent....this ole boy is about 12-14 ft. long nose to tail. The last 6+ ft. of his tail was not visible & underwater.
They're really not as scary as they look......but certainly to be respected.

The medieval aspect of this Renaissance castle of Fontaine-Henry becomes very apparent in the cellar.
The castle was built by the family d'Harcourt and it took nearly a hundred years to finish it (hence it's mainly a Renaissance building, finished in 1560, but it has some details that are in the Gothic style known as Flamboyant). There was actually a fortress built here already in the 11th century and in the beginning of the 13th century this was replaced by a castle (which might explain why it next to the current castle stands a very medieval chapel).
The castle is still owned by people who are direct descendants of the family who first started building this castle - though the surname has sometimes changed and the current owners carry the name d’Oilliamson - since it a few times was inherited by women. The house is still privately owned, but the interior can be visited on guided tours (no photography allowed, though - except the basement).

Osservando il Gruppo dei Lagorai dalle Dolomiti del Passo Rolle, il paesaggio cambia profondamente. I rilievi scuri e privi di architetture naturali imponenti e ardite disegnano infatti un ambiente spoglio, solitario e apparentemente tetro. In realtà di tratta di montagne diverse e ricche di fascino e di mistero, che invitano ad un escursionismo di esplorazione e d'avventura. Tutto questo sotto gli stessi, splendidi cieli che accarezzano la Dolomia ..... ..

NGC 7635, également connue sous le nom de nébuleuse de la Bulle, est une nébuleuse d'environ 10 années-lumière de diamètre située dans la constellation de Cassiopée. Elle est composée d'hydrogène ionisé, c'est une région HII. Elle a été découverte en 1787 par William Herschel.(source Wikipédia)
