That's all - just a strange icicle. I have no idea how this would form that way.

You know how I pick on people for skewed horizons, so you might ask why I left the eve on an angle. I tried is the other way, but that made it so that the straight icicle (outlined above) was crooked and it just didn't look right to me. It made the "strange" icicle look less strange by comparison. The texture that you see is the porch screen. The verticla lines are not so terribly far off from perpendicular to the frame. I was not looking dead straight out at the icicles when I took the shot.

The depth of field is intersting in this shot. I took it through a porch screen, but that didn't show up until I sharpened the image to death to bring out the detail in the ice. The screen looks like a texture applied in Photoshop.

I decided to mat this one and toss it into the show, just because everyone will know it's from the recent storm and they will kind of get a kick out of it. The "screen texture" and bokeh will give them something to talk about.

Yes, the highlights in the ice are blown out, but it sort of looked this way in person. The real reason for this is because I uploaded my "print" version. I have to goose up the highlights and oversharped anything that will go in the newspaper to compensate for the thirsty grey paper.

All art is but imitation of nature.-- Seneca (Letters from a Stoic - Letter LXV: On the First Cause)

The universe itself is God and the universal outpouring of its soul. --Chrysippus (Quoted by Cicero in De Natura Deorum)

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness

Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun

Conspiring with him how to load and bless

With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;

To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,

And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;

To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells

With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,

And still more, later flowers for the bees,

Until they think warm days will never cease,

For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells. --To Autumn. by John Keats

Sometimes called the ‘Cobblers Pose’, this is a fabulous groin opener with a strong lift on the central trunk. Folks with very tight hips and upper legs will most likely find the pose challenging, so would benefit by sitting up on a yoga brick or rolled blanket. Using a strap to reach the feet may also be beneficial. Also sitting against a wall with the sitting bones (head of Femurs) tucked as close in as possible. When initially learning the pose, relax the big toe edge of the feet away from each other. Later you can learn to join the feet fully.

Breathing should be steady and connected to the stretches. Make sure you lift the sternum bone and drop & broaden the shoulder blades at the back

Doing general leg work will help, especially outward rotations in the hip joints – Tree Pose, Leg Stretching Out to the sides. Triangle Pose, Lateral Right Angle Pose. Hip Openers.

Placing the soles of the feet together connects the central Cakras in the feet, as does placing the palms together in a prayer position. These Mudras contain the outward flow of intrinsic energy in the body and therefore are useful for inward practices – meditation and possibly to calm nervous conditions. Can also be used as part of a relaxation program in the reclining version.

Variations

•Turn the posture into a full forward bend by extending the chest up over the feet. Try to rest the chin on the mat in front of you.

•Recline back with the shoulders & head supported on a blanket or Yoga Bricks. Arms are relaxed out to the sides.

I wanted to try more wide angle Puffins whilst on a Skomer this year. This is the first of a couple that worked out ok. There is still room for improvement, I found wide angles more difficult as it's practically impossible to get a clean background.

Fine Art Landscape & Nature Photography for Los Angeles Gallery Show !

Will be busy printing and framing in nice large, matted formats and frames and museum glass! Five of these photos will be printed on 40" x 60" floating wall mounted metal sheets! I think I know which--will share photos of the photos hanging on the walls!

And I am mounting some on plexiglass/acryllic--front mounting them! Some I am printing on lossy fuji-crystal archival paper too, and then front mounting 40"x60" versions to plexiglass--will send photos!

The secret to HDR photography is that you want people to say, "Woe dude--that's unreal!" And not, "Dude--that's not real!" "Unreal" is the word they use when they're trying to figure out the photo--what makes it cool--is it a photo? Is it painted? How'd it come to be--how'd you bend the light that way? "That's not real," is what they say if you have the saturation/HDR/ etc. turned up too high. :)

Some (almost) final edits for my Los Angeles Gallery Show! Printing them on metallic paper at 13" x 19" and mounting and framing them on a 4mm 18x24 white mat and 2" dark wood frame. Also printing some 40" x 70" which is over three feet by five feet! Wish you all could come (and hang out with the goddesses)!
