A cloudy day snap from the "poorest premium phone camera" I reviewed of last year. When even the weakest cameras on our phones can turn out shots like this, I think we're in pretty good shape for mobile photography.
Today is Flickr's 21st birthday! Today's theme is *BOLD*
Here is my lava lamp - which is used to bring me a moment of joy, and provide a bit of lighting when I eat dinner.
Did you know that lava lamps are used to generate random numbers? Cloudflare has a whole wall full of them, and cameras are used to get all sorts of measurements which are then used to create the random numbers that keep us all safe online.
The whole process is called 'Lavarand' and you can read about it, here:
Here it is. Yertis.
Not very tomato colored but it tastes ok. So it might be pasta for tea today.
40 minutes including 30 minutes cooking. Ez.
Sometimes you stumble across something outstanding and unexpected. Today it was this haddock and chips. It's nice to have someone else do the cooking for a change.
To drink it had to be dandelion and burdock. It goes well with fried food.
I'll treat myself to another trip next month, perhaps.
Within an hour of napping and arranging in a vase, the yellow rosebuds opened to share their loveliness.
or your medicine will become your food.
So said Hippocrates (maybe). I tend to agree.
Enough of lolling around feeling crook - time to make something nourishing; so here it is.

I'm putting this on at the low setting overnight. It took longer to write this than do the prep. Hopefully it will taste half decent!
Today we celebrated the 200th anniversary of the first naming of a dinosaur, the megalosaurus. This dinosaur and its handler spent most of the day roaming around the city, causing consternation and amusement.
My thermometer read 24 Β°c today. I haven't seen this arrangement of floats for months. At last.. π
Quiet cloudy morning, and on a gray day, these lilies were a fun POP of color on my walk around the block.
Straight out of the camera from the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.
Things that different people have said:
"The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation."
Henry Thoreau
"Clive, you are living your best life."
"This is normal life for you now."
Being at a loose end, I took a trip to Morecambe to buy some paint, and stopped at Lewis's for a 'natural dairy' ice cream, and paused a while on the promenade to consume it while looking across the bay at the Lakeland Fells.
Nothing is ever perfect, but I felt blessed today.
Bring to the boil and then cook for about 15 to 20 minutes.*
Taste and season as it goes.
For extra thickness, I made a slurry of flour and cold water and gently added it during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
Now allow to cool before eating or decanting.
If you want, use a stick blender and do your worst, but I recommend leaving a few bits intact for visual interest.
*After 15 minutes the sweet potato is done, and everything else has some crunch still. Cook for a bit longer if you prefer to have a softer bite.
15 minutes won't cost the earth in electricity!
Serve with a good chunk of bread.
The meandros, meander line, or Greek key is a symbol of eternity, unity, victory and long life. It's also been thought it represented the interlock img of hands during wrestling. Not just a fashion device after all.
Found a recipe on YouTube for making a kind of marinara sauce in the air fryer. Had the goods and the kitchen is a bit chilly so time to warm it up.
This used to be a toy shop. In Lancaster are many old shop signs to be seen. You just have to look up.
This is currently a Chinese restaurant that is frequented by the Chinese community. My guess is that it must be good!
You can see the skeleton of Napoleon's horse, Marengo, at the National Army Museum in Chelsea.
This runs 24/7 and drags out 1/2 a litre of water from the air each day in this room. It is very quiet and efficient. It is way cheaper to run than a heater and keeps humidity to tolerable levels, if not ideal.
My new dehumidifier. Expensive prior training from ages ago enabled me to work out that this uses maximum 60 watts (like an old fashioned lightbulb) only. Less damp in my kitchen with luck.
This one from a thrift shop. As much as β¬125 and Β£50 from shops nearby.
It even works π
I didn't know flamingos could sleep like this. I didn't know they could bend their legs like this. Using the zoom lens on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. No edits.
Upstairs from the supermarket i treated myself to this bowl of cuttlefish in chili and celery. It was very spicy and delicious.
Also nice for someone else to do the cooking for a change!
The temperature dial on my oven is off considerably. I'm using a calibrated oven thermometer today and hope today's results will be a bit better than earlier this week.
Spaghetti Eis. Haven't had this since the 80s, yikes!
Here's my take on the Italian flag: vanilla ice cream pressed through a potato ricer, ground up pistachio, strawberry sauce.

Tea's up. Served with some salad - I love summer salads - and a sprinkling of fried onions for some crunch.
The bus floor is covered with this jolly stuff. Designed to be grippy if damp (it often is here) and to hide dirt during the course of the day. The colors are uplifting too
More clever industrial design.
This is my version of kleftiko that i cooked in the microwave pressure cooker. Instead of up to 6 hours slow cooking in the oven, this was ready in 30 minutes. The picture shows the meat as it emerged before i spooned over the jus to serve.
It was tender, tasty, and nothing exploded! I substituted thyme for rosemary which worked nicely.
Hmu for the recipe.
Honey Fungus

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armillaria
It looks pretty, but ... it is dangerous to trees and spreads through the soil, via root systems. It is the fungus' consumption of the roots that causes trees to die.
You will often see honey fungus on tree stumps, or trees in an advanced state of decay.
There are no licensed fungicides in the EU to deal with this fungus. If you have it, all you can do is remove any affected trees and burn them, and excavate the soil and infected root systems.
Some people eat honey fungus, but only after it has been properly prepared and cooked. Even then, it often causes gastric distress and upset. I'd say it is best avoided.
Americans might suggest Armillatox, which Europeans can still buy. It's just not a licensed fungicide. 'nuff said.
