I haven't used my moka pot for a while. With some lovely coffee from Nicaragua it's time to refresh my taste buds.
In pressure cooking mode, pressure builds up and this red telltale becomes visible, locking the lid in place until the pressure is released.
Bramley apple, peeled, chunked, and tossed in sugar. cinnamon and nutmeg.
Steamed in the microwave pressure cooker for 5 minutes.
Served with some thin custard.
Apple remained firm and full of flavor.
The fruit has remained suspended in the matrix. Encouraging.

I was recently asked if Trivial Pursuit was available in UK. It is, in many flavors. Here is one I saw yesterday.
There are few things that I can imagine would be a better definition of 'waste of time' than playing this 'celebrity' version.
Detail of the gates.
I imagine they were perhaps a love gift; flowers that won't fade.
I was reminded of that song by Jacques Brel:
Thank you all for your kind wishes - I am recovering. But getting out to take pictures hasn't really been on the cards today.
This morning I received my new freezer. I don't think my landlord would like me taking a chainsaw to the counter, so I opted for this little freezer instead. At last, I can freeze some of my cooking to be used later. It should cost about GBP 1 per week to run, which is not so bad.
My neighbor returned from Helsinki and brought me a delightful fridge magnet, which decorates the fridge door.
I have a habit of forgetting the tomatoes in my fridge and end up throwing some away.
Now I slice some up and put in a jam jar with garlic, basil, oil and a touch of vinegar. In the fridge these will last a while. Just right for when I've run out of fresh ones.

It's a fine name, and i never met a Rupert whom I did not like.
Binned the liners and generously greased a baking tray with fat. Yes! Fat, not oil.
Batter put into each well using an ice cream scoop. Easy to measure and eject into the well itself.
I tried veganism last year for a few months and got sick. I guess it isn't for everyone.
Sometimes the only thing is to flick on the disco lights and pump up the volume to some Hi-NRG. Dancing is optional, but I always do.
Listen, here:
I bought this used Google Nest Mini speaker as a birthday treat. It connects to my wifi and is controlled by my phone. I use it to stream the radio and any other audio playing on my phone. Really simple to set up and use. The only downside is it uses about 1.8 W per hour on standby (1.3 kW per month) and 15 W in use. On the up side, that's less than my Internet radio!
The Temperance Society was a big thing back in the day. Some of the motivation for was the common good, but another big bit was making sure people got to and stayed at work, sober. There was a temperance society hotel at the top of Castle Hill - it's now apartments.
Why was I not made aware of this simple but delicious meal before?
Smash aan avo and add a bit of cayenne pepper and lemon juice.
Cook the bacon and slice it up.
Make toast.
Pile it up. Easy.
Add a smear of Vegemite to the toast of you have it. Umami niceness.
The tomatoes are the last of the ones I preserved the other day. It's now my go-to method.
The number of British veterans that end up on the streets is a complete disgrace.
The Tommy Sleepout raises funds and awareness to attempt to sort it out.
A bottle of rough red wine would have set the soup off. Not allowed so I used vinegar and Sriracha instead.
It's a drizzly, grey morning so I made some fridge magnets with these picks. Maybe make it into a moodometer.
A word that's almost disappeared, along with pantry.
Using a pumice block to de-pill cloth looks like a good plan.
Sometimes you stumble across something outstanding and unexpected. Today it was this haddock and chips. It's nice to have someone else do the cooking for a change.
To drink it had to be dandelion and burdock. It goes well with fried food.
I'll treat myself to another trip next month, perhaps.
Pigeons were used as messengers to report the flood state of the River Nile in the time of Rameses II. These lovely birds are just coming to say hello - and maybe scarf a few crumbs from my lunch.
A passerby commented that if I gave them anything they would be my friends for life. And so they are =]
When I am not sure which wine to buy, my system is to look for a favorite bird or animal on the label. With a kangaroo on the label, this is guaranteed to be fair dinkum!
Today we celebrated the 200th anniversary of the first naming of a dinosaur, the megalosaurus. This dinosaur and its handler spent most of the day roaming around the city, causing consternation and amusement.
Cycling through a shady wood I came across a great bank of blue bells. The ground is damp and smelled of petrichor, as it should.
Bluebells are always so joyful I think.
Travel broadens the mind, and educates the tastebuds. A friend has recently returned from Thailand and this inspired me to get cooking.
This is my fusion of jerk pork, tenderstem broccoli, and red Thai curry.
No editing - just look at how green that brocolli has remained in the wok!
Things that different people have said:
"The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation."
Henry Thoreau
"Clive, you are living your best life."
"This is normal life for you now."
Being at a loose end, I took a trip to Morecambe to buy some paint, and stopped at Lewis's for a 'natural dairy' ice cream, and paused a while on the promenade to consume it while looking across the bay at the Lakeland Fells.
Nothing is ever perfect, but I felt blessed today.
Random markings on kerb-stones fascinate me. It's not easy to do, so why was it done? There has to be a reason. A bit like life, really.
