When I am not sure which wine to buy, my system is to look for a favorite bird or animal on the label. With a kangaroo on the label, this is guaranteed to be fair dinkum!
I haven't used my moka pot for a while. With some lovely coffee from Nicaragua it's time to refresh my taste buds.
The fruit has remained suspended in the matrix. Encouraging.
Still warm and spread with butter this makes a nice breakfast treat with coffee.
I literally found these shelves next to a dumpster today. Most of my cookbooks will fit on them. I realise I have far too many! But I love how Nigel Slater writes, and Jamie is just fun. But now I have some more space on my counter to clutter up, and I am looking for a used mixer or sausage maker now.

My windows are tiny and light loving plants could do with all the light they can get, especially when filtered through gloomy cumulonimbus clouds!
I don't wear a tie anymore so this seemed like a practical up cycle solution.
Thank you all for your kind wishes - I am recovering. But getting out to take pictures hasn't really been on the cards today.
This morning I received my new freezer. I don't think my landlord would like me taking a chainsaw to the counter, so I opted for this little freezer instead. At last, I can freeze some of my cooking to be used later. It should cost about GBP 1 per week to run, which is not so bad.
My neighbor returned from Helsinki and brought me a delightful fridge magnet, which decorates the fridge door.
An old battered ball at the local park. This is some PRETTY bokeh for a phone camera...
Shot on the XPERIA 1 V!
This little souvenir from swamp kauri wood is old, buried during the last ice age.
I've hung crystals in the windows and love these serendipitous light plays.
I bought this used Google Nest Mini speaker as a birthday treat. It connects to my wifi and is controlled by my phone. I use it to stream the radio and any other audio playing on my phone. Really simple to set up and use. The only downside is it uses about 1.8 W per hour on standby (1.3 kW per month) and 15 W in use. On the up side, that's less than my Internet radio!
The individual boxes in the vertical garden can be quickly dismounted for planting, or moving about. No tools are required as they simply hang onto the wall batten, using this clever 45 degree cut, known as a French cleat.
Bloodstain Pattern Analysis is the forensic identification of the way blood stains are arranged at a possible crime scene, in order to infer their possible causes. Patterns are labelled in a number of ways.
I saw these 'passive stains' on my way to work this morning - possibly the result of a simple nosebleed, or minor altercation.
As I continued on my way I noted how many people were either yelling into their phones, or at eachother, or both simultaneously. As Christmas approaches, expectations seem to climb as well as personal tensions.
So, here is my thought for the day: be kind to yourself, and be kind to eachother. Christmas will come and it will go. Walk softly, and leave the big stick at home.
Namaste.
A word that's almost disappeared, along with pantry.
Using a pumice block to de-pill cloth looks like a good plan.
A cloudy day snap from the "poorest premium phone camera" I reviewed of last year. When even the weakest cameras on our phones can turn out shots like this, I think we're in pretty good shape for mobile photography.
Today is Flickr's 21st birthday! Today's theme is *BOLD*
Here is my lava lamp - which is used to bring me a moment of joy, and provide a bit of lighting when I eat dinner.
Did you know that lava lamps are used to generate random numbers? Cloudflare has a whole wall full of them, and cameras are used to get all sorts of measurements which are then used to create the random numbers that keep us all safe online.
The whole process is called 'Lavarand' and you can read about it, here:
Here it is. Yertis.
Not very tomato colored but it tastes ok. So it might be pasta for tea today.
40 minutes including 30 minutes cooking. Ez.
Sometimes you stumble across something outstanding and unexpected. Today it was this haddock and chips. It's nice to have someone else do the cooking for a change.
To drink it had to be dandelion and burdock. It goes well with fried food.
I'll treat myself to another trip next month, perhaps.
I like music when I work.
Here is Bach's Weinachts Oratorium performed by RIAS Kammerchor and the Akademie fuer Alte Music Berlin conducted by Rene Jacobs.
This recording has mixed reviews but for me it is the benchmark. Jacobs doesn't just inhabit this music, he channels it.
Within an hour of napping and arranging in a vase, the yellow rosebuds opened to share their loveliness.
or your medicine will become your food.
So said Hippocrates (maybe). I tend to agree.

I'm putting this on at the low setting overnight. It took longer to write this than do the prep. Hopefully it will taste half decent!
Today we celebrated the 200th anniversary of the first naming of a dinosaur, the megalosaurus. This dinosaur and its handler spent most of the day roaming around the city, causing consternation and amusement.
Quiet cloudy morning, and on a gray day, these lilies were a fun POP of color on my walk around the block.
Straight out of the camera from the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.
Things that different people have said:
"The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation."
Henry Thoreau
"Clive, you are living your best life."
"This is normal life for you now."
Being at a loose end, I took a trip to Morecambe to buy some paint, and stopped at Lewis's for a 'natural dairy' ice cream, and paused a while on the promenade to consume it while looking across the bay at the Lakeland Fells.
Nothing is ever perfect, but I felt blessed today.
