Seated statue of Gudea, 2150–2100 B.C.
Neo-Sumerian period
Southern Mesopotamia
Diorite
The Akkadian empire collapsed after two centuries of rule, and during the succeeding fifty years, local kings ruled independent city-states in southern Mesopotamia. The city-state of Lagash produced a remarkable number of statues of its kings as well as Sumerian literary hymns and prayers under the rule of Gudea (ca. 2150–2125 B.C.) and his son Ur-Ningirsu (ca. 2125–2100 B.C.). Unlike the art of the Akkadian period, which was characterized by dynamic naturalism, the works produced by this Neo-Sumerian culture are pervaded by a sense of pious reserve and serenity.
This sculpture belongs to a series of diorite statues commissioned by Gudea, who devoted his energies to rebuilding the great temples of Lagash and installing statues of himself in them. Many inscribed with his name and divine dedications survive. Here, Gudea is depicted in the seated pose of a ruler before his subjects, his hands folded in a traditional gesture of greeting and prayer. The Sumerian inscription on his robe lists the various temples that he built or renovated in Lagash and names the statue itself, "Gudea, the man who built the temple; may his life be long."
The coffin of Nedjemankh is a gilded ancient Egyptian coffin from the late Ptolemaic Period. It once encased the mummy of Nedjemankh, a priest of the ram god Heryshaf.
The lid is covered with vignettes illustrating funerary spells and has inscriptions in gold and silver.

This outstanding double figural vessel, illustrates an erotic scene that may have served ritual purposes and not common in Ecuadorian archaeology. Probably made as a votive offering. Shows traces of post-fired paint. Northern Manabi region, Ecuador. 500BC-500AD. In Fine condition. Measures over 8" in height by 10" in length.
The coffin of the unknown woman is preserved with nothing but a face and a little hair. This provides a good opportunity to pay attention to details: painted eyes and eyebrows, a small smile, decorative patterns painted on the hair and under the forehead under the hair.

The uprising in Colombia occurs in 1810, but the Spanish reaction is brutal and the country gained independence nine years later thanks to the victory of Boyaca, August 7, 1819, won by Bolivar. Angostura Congress in December 1819 saw the creation of the Great Colombia, which includes Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Panama. This set does not survive Bolivar (1783-1830). Venezuela left the Confederation in 1829, Ecuador in 1830, Panama in 1903.

Artist sketch: walking in garden of a royal couple
New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty,
ca 1335 BC, Amarna
Painted Limestone
Although this sketch is small in size, I find it one of the most beautiful at the Berlin museum. The lovely gesture with flowers from the princess to her prince, him being in a pose showing his bad leg and the walking cane. It is a very high probabilty that it is Tutanhkamom since in his tomb there were many such canes to the afterlife. Also the scans of his leg shows injury and syndromes which makes him walk badly needing assistance. //Andrea

Biton, Argive youth
Delphi Museum
Archaic Period, c. 610-580 BCE
2.15m (7ft) tall
One of a pair of large kouroi (statues of youths) dedicated by the Argives (the people living near Sparta) to the god Apollo in his sanctuary at Delphi.
These statues mark the very beginning of the archaic period of Greek art. They have a slightly stiff and stylized posture, geometric simplification, enigmatic smiles, large almond-shaped eyes, and hair woven into dreadlocks or stylized, regular curls.

According to the Lonely Planet guide to Iran,
"Most impressive of all, however, and among the most impressive historical sights in all of Iran, are the bas-reliefs of the Apadana Staircase on the eastern wall [of the Apadana Palace]"
"The panels at the southern end [of the Apadana Staircase] are the most interesting, showing 23 delegations bringing their tributes to the Achaemenid king."
"This rich record of the nations of the time ranges from the Ethiopians in the bottom left center, through a climbing pantheon of, among other peoples, Arabs, Thracians, Indians, Parthians and Cappadocians, up to the Elamites and Medians at the top right."
Persepolis, Iran
These elaborate and well preserved Fremont Culture petroglyphs are located in a canyon in the Utah desert. They are among the best preserved pre-Columbian petroglyphs in the United States. This group is from the early Fremont Period, around 2,500 B.C.

Fragment of a relief: Akhenaten makes sacrifices to the god Aten
New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty,
ca 1345 BC, Amarna
Painted Limestone
National Museum of China (中国国家博物馆)
Beijing, China
The Zhou Dynasty (1046–256 BC) was a Chinese dynasty that followed the Shang Dynasty and preceded the Qin Dynasty. Although the Zhou Dynasty lasted longer than any other dynasty in Chinese history, the actual political and military control of China by the Ji family lasted only until 771 BC, a period known as the Western Zhou.
During the Zhou Dynasty, the use of iron was introduced to China, though this period of Chinese history produced what many consider the zenith of Chinese bronze-ware making. The dynasty also spans the period in which the written script evolved into its modern form with the use of an archaic clerical script that emerged during the late Warring States period. – Wikipedia

Mauritius was a British Crown Colony off the Southeast coast of Africa.
Formerly part of the French colonial empire, British rule in Mauritius was established de facto with the Invasion of Isle de France in November 1810, and de jure by the subsequent Treaty of Paris.
