This is part of the main lobby of the school. Note the 70s-style colors of the wall. Also, underneath that bell is a Simplex 4251-30 pull station for the fire alarm system. On the right, that alarm is a Simplex 4051 horn on a 4050-80 light plate, and underneath is a Simplex graphic annunciator.
There are numerous guard posts along the road to the DMZ. It's a little hard to see, but if you zoom in, you can see there are rocks in the middle of the fence. This is part of an alarm system. I'm sure I'm missing something, but I think they should just string up a bunch of used cans instead.

V6-163 Horsepower @ 5500 RPM. Torque 170 @ 4350 RPM. This car runs very good, although it does have an idle problem, it will idle fine at start-up and initial takeoff then when u come to the first stop the idle drops to around 400 rpm and stalls the car. So I drive with one foot on the brake and one foot on the accelerator at any stop .My research found cleaning the fuel injection intake may cure the problem, so if I get around to fixing it the price will increase. The Avenger handles really well and is very clean inside and out with one minor wrinkle in the passenger door which looks like it belongs there. Interior is in excellent condition. The Tires are almost new. The passenger door handle is missing from the outside, and the trunk lock has been messed up but the trunk release works fine from the inside. There are minor paint flaws that can be fixed with a professional buffing and some touch-up. Clean and clear title. It has not been smogged; you will have to do that. 167,000 Miles. Pick up any newspaper with an article about public concerns and the subject of crime usually tops the list. It’s therefore surprising that homeowners and building contractors often don’t use the services of a professional locksmith to analyze security needs for their properties. For example, the most common practice in new home construction is to piecemeal the security precautions-using one company to set up an alarm system, an electrician to hook up outdoor lighting for crime prevention, and carpenters perhaps to install low–grade locks and door hardware almost as an afterthought. Often critical options such as door frame structure, door reinforcement or floor safes aren’t even thought of in time to incorporate those into the original building process.
“There are almost 10,000 members of the Associated Locksmiths of America-a number of which are certified locksmiths-available to builders, business owners and homeowners to ensure the physical safety of their property and, most important, their employees and families,” says Robert E. Mock, ALOA’s president. “It’s puzzling that owners make such substantial investments in their homes and businesses without taking care to secure them intelligently.” The issue is more significant than just correct installation techniques. A qualified locksmith can make recommendations on what physical and electronic systems need to be chosen in the first place.
Today, the security marketplace is flooded with options often unknown to those in fields outside locksmithing. Even a vendor in a related industry who is aware of a new security product is unlikely to have the judgment or qualifications of a highly trained and experienced locksmith. Mock also cites concern about the growing number of companies that are only aware of, and trained in, a narrow portion of security service. “More and more, we are seeing companies marketing themselves as security providers who have minimal exposure to the security industry as a whole. Especially with the rapid onset of electronic security in common applications, we are running into more individuals who have negligible training in physical security–they have learned overnight to install something that they do not really understand, and they have little or no background in deciding whether the product choice is appropriate for a particular application. Often they are employed by companies that only make or produce one product; therefore it is unlikely that a comprehensive security analysis is going to take place for the customer.

What a terrific party that made a huge impact on Kids Need to Read! Here are my photos from the Phoenix Fan Fusion and Blue Ribbon Army’s “Rocket's Rad 80's Party- 2.0.” As you might recall, the original 80’s party, the proceeds of which benefited KNTR, was canceled during Phoenix Comic Fest due to the malfunctioning fire alarm system in the convention center. Well, at the Rocket's Rad 80's Party-2.0 KNTR was presented a check for $7,500 from the Arizona Lottery! That donation combined with donations online and at the party totaled over $10k for Kids Need to Read. We are so grateful for everyone who contributed: Square Egg Entertainment (Phoenix Fan Fusion), Blue Ribbon Army, Arizona Lottery, Phoenix Convention Center, The Park, Noah's Arcade, Ash10 Nicole, Heroes United AZ, and all the people who contributed online or in person and came to dance the night away!

The baby has a dual alarm system in case I sneak off while he falls asleep. Our world may be small, but it's cozy.
Recently it has come to our attention that there is a misconception about our service policies and procedures. We would like to set the record straight at this time on behalf of all of our service technicians located throughout the Canadian provinces, and especially on behalf of the dedicated customer service personnel who work tirelessly at providing unmatched service for all of our valued customers.
Although Titan Alarm is based in Edmonton, Alberta, it is not just another Edmonton alarm company. Titan serves all of the Canadian provinces with the exception of Quebec. Just because the headquarters of Titan Alarm are located in Edmonton, alarm systems that are installed outside of Edmonton are still serviced by a number of regional technicians to insure prompt and effective service for all of our customers, regardless of location.
Although in some rural areas it may take a bit longer to have someone come and service your system, it is our policy to be as prompt as possible. The reason why we take such extensive measures to have regional technician teams available, even outside of Edmonton, is so that people in other cities and rural areas don’t have to settle for out-dated, ineffective equipment and service based on their geographic location.
Rumors such as this one (below) that was posted on a community Facebook page are inaccurate and discredit our dedicated staff that work around the clock to ensure that all of our customers are very well taken care of:
“…you get no support after the 2 weeks that the sales guys are in the area... they move on to another town and in fall, back to college, and the entire company doesn't do anything over winter to service clients!”
While it is true that our promotional reps work seasonally (would you want to be out knocking on doors in the dead of winter?). They make up only a small percentage of the staff that sustains the smooth operation of this company. There is no way that we would be as successful or have the high reviews that we do if we only worked in the summertime. We are constantly at work for you to make sure your family is safe and protected 24/7/365—even if you live in a very remote area.
It is not surprising to us at all that the above remarks came from an employee of a local alarm company in the area for which this Facebook page was made. Many local companies try to discredit our efforts in order to promote the view that what they offer is the only choice homeowners have when it comes to protecting their family. While we can’t speak for other Edmonton alarm companies, our policies do not include forgetting about all of our customers outside of the Edmonton area after their systems have been installed—in fact, it is quite the opposite.
We are constantly developing new and improved technology with our partners in order to offer our customers the best equipment possible to protect their homes. We are passionate about making this technology available to a wide market, as we feel that no one should have to sacrifice the safety of their family because they live in a remote location. By offering our services outside of the Edmonton area, we understand that there will need to be service and maintenance done in those areas. We would like to assure you that no matter where you are located; there is a regional technician in your area that will be available to service your alarm if needed.

In this video, it shows me drive into a severe thunderstorm with copious amounts of hail around the outskirts of Firebaugh, CA. This is one of the craziest hailstorms I've driven in. I even had to stop on the side a few times for safety purposes. This was during my epic storm chase around the vast Central Valley this day, chasing severe thunderstorms that have developed in and around the vicinity… Conditions were perfect for storm development in the valley. Temps were in the mid 60’s and was a bit humid. It’s been a while since I’ve done a storm chase in the Central Valley. Places traveled included areas from Los Banos all the way down to Fresno, CA. Heavy rain, hail (the most intense I’ve seen in person), Midwest-like skies, and plentiful lightning were all observed this day. It was nice to finally be out in California’s version of the Great Plains once again! ‘Til next time, safe travels out there! (Chase taken place Sunday, March 12, 2023)
*Weather scenario: Multiple weather advisories were issued this day due to extreme weather. The ground zero for the strongest storms were to be in the counties of Merced and Madera, with the combination of a stronger upper-level jet, upslope lifting, or, orographic lift west of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, and acceptable low-level shear. Supercells were expected to form as a result, even some with tops over 25-30kft. Tornado warnings and severe thunderstorms have pounded the Central Valley along with hail and lightning. Emergency alerts were sent out on cellphones and broadcasted on TV early Sunday afternoon as a powerful storm made its way through the Central Valley… A tornado warning was issued for the 2nd time this weekend shortly after 3 o'clock for Merced and Madera County near Los Banos... Residents in Dos Palos got their attention with a tornado warning on their home alarm system. Hail the size of dimes and nickels was what residents across the valley were reporting. Weather chasers (myself included) were out in full force in capturing this weekend’s rare Midwest-like active weather pattern… Fun stuff!

A 30-year-old Cary man was safely escorted from a neighborhood residence and to a hospital after he barricaded himself from a large police contingent for roughly four hours Wednesday.
Cary Police Deputy Chief James Fillmore said the man, who was threatening to harm himself and "under a lot of emotional stress," was taken to Centegra Hospital-McHenry at 3:12 p.m. after first responders arrived on the scene at Hillhurst Drive at 11 a.m. The man was unarmed and no one was hurt during the situation, Fillmore said.
The man had climbed into the garage attic and refused to come down for family members, police said.
Fillmore said no charges would be filed in the incident. Fillmore said police have responded to domestic disturbances at the home on the 300 block of Hillhurst Drive several times in the past.
The four-hour operation required a heavy police presence that included officers from Cary, Streamwood, Round Lake, Roselle, Fox River Grove and other municipalities. On scene, marked and unmarked vehicles lined the surrounding streets, and armed, vested officers, including K9 units, were seen walking toward the residence.
A large Northern Illinois Police Alarm System vehicle also was on scene. Cary Police blocked off a square area from Decker Drive to Hillhurst Drive bordered by Bryan and Bell drives. School bus routes were also redirected because of the situation.
The incident comes within a week of a Holiday Hills man shooting and wounding two McHenry County Sheriff’s officers. That incident led to an even larger police response as a 16-hour manhunt ensued before Scott B. Peters was arrested and charged with shooting the officers.

I loved this retro fire alarm. I didn't break the glass to see if it worked, but I can only imagine that it would make your ears bleed with the noise it would have made.
4/5/21 - Cary, Illinois
The state fire marshal was called to assist with the investigation into a well-engulfed house fire in Cary Monday morning that left a firefighter injured and a family dog missing.
The Cary Fire Protection District responded around 6:39 a.m. Monday to the 500 block of Holly Lynn Drive for a report of a structure fire.
Cary Fire Protection District Lt. Michael Douglass said an off-duty firefighter arrived on the scene first and confirmed the rear of a two-story home was well involved in fire.
Firefighters arrived and began a fire attack. No one was inside the house at the time of the fire.
Douglass said that the home is in an area that does not have any fire hydrants so firefighters had to set up for rural water supply operations using portable water pools.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the first level to bring additional resources from neighboring towns to the scene.
The incident was later upgraded to a second alarm for more equipment and resources, Douglass said.
It took multiple hose lines as well as an elevated master stream to extinguish the fire, which was declared under control at 8:16 a.m.
Firefighters remained on the scene for several additional hours performing salvage and overhaul operations.
One firefighter was not feeling well and was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington where he was treated and released. No civilians were injured.
The house was a complete loss but a damage estimate was not immediately available.
The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
A total of 27 Cary Fire Protection District firefighters responded to the scene in addition to dozens of firefighters from other departments.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Barrington, Barrington-Countryside, Fox River Grove, Nunda Rural and Wauconda fire departments responded to the scene initially.
The Crystal Lake, East Dundee, Lake Zurich, Long Grove, McHenry, Mundelein, Palatine Rural, Rolling Meadows, Woodstock and Wonder Lake fire departments were called once the alarm was upgraded.
Cary’s fire station was covered by crews from Huntley and Carpentersville.

This tantalising view is as close as one is normally allowed to get to the north chapel at Lapworth church, as the entire eastern half of the building is rendered off limits by a sensitive alarm system.
This was bitterly disappointing as not only could this fine window by Richard Stubington (whose amazing east window at Packwood I'd just seen) not be seen in detail, the church's most famous treasure, an Eric Gill Madonna & Child relief, was totally invisible (being mounted on the reverse side of the right hand pillar!)
It was a frustrating experience, as the best things in the church were so close, but out of reach. I left a frustrated note in the visitors book about how sorry I was to have had to miss out on the Eric Gill and the glass, and came back for one more glimpse of that rich blue window just out of range, but the story doesn't end there........
On my final attempt to take this picture before leaving I leant slightly, without realising, just over the rope that cordoned off everything from the front nave pew eastwards. In the next instant a beeping noise errupted!
As I ran to the door to seek help it stopped so I assumed everything was ok. But then it got from bad to worse when I'd got outside, ear splitting and inescapable, but nobody was around to hear it other than me!
I went to the rectory across the road and managed to rouse the vicar's wife, (I don't think they'd noticed till then the siren wailing from the steeple!) She was pleasant and accepted my apologies as the siren suddenly stopped, the panic was over! Another lady who was a churchwarden had heard the siren and came to switch it off herself. Phew!
I went over to apologise to her for the inconvenience and explained what had happened. She was most gracious about the whole situation and reckoned I'd probably been unlucky enough to be right next to the sensor for the alarm to have gone off so easily.
The outcome of all this ironically was a happy one for me, as the kind lady offered to wait until I'd had a look at the inaccessible areas before switching the alarm back on! Thus I got to see all that I had been frustrated about missing out on, thanks to the generosity of an individual I had in effect, though inadvertedly, inconvenienced; she was an absolute star, and that was an act of kindness I shan't soon forget!
