With heavy rain clouds looming over Wild Boar Fell, Freightliner Heavyhaul 66526 'Driver Steve Dunn (George)' breasts Ais Gill Summit, at 1,169 feet above sea level, heads the 6Z68 Killoch to Drax loaded coal on 4th July 2012. I made a chance meeting at Ais Gill summit with Alan Burkwood and Alan Padley, both 'Flickiites', and spent a most enjoyable hour lineside. Great to meet both of you at last outside the virtual world!

A rare morning southbound steam working along the Settle & Carlisle did not generate the hoped for sunshine. Instead it was bright, but the dark cloud gathering over Wild Boar Fell in the background had more than a hint of rain on the way, which meant a speedy dash back to the car. The train was a Compass Railtours charter 'The Fylde Coast Express', 1Z43 0518 Kilmarnock - Blackpool North, which was steam-hauled on 22nd May 2013 by West Coast Railway's Stanier 'Black 5' No. 44932 from Carlisle. Hidden behind the train is a large sign proclaiming this is 'Ais Gill Summit 1169 feet above sea level'. Copyright John Whitehouse - all rights reserved

An overcast and dull day on the S&C back in 83 and green liveried Class 40 40122 (D200) was working the 10:40 Carlisle to Leeds. Ais Gill was my selected location and despite the conditions the Fuji 400 managed to register on the camera, just!.
