The same train is seen passing Ais Gill just catching a bit of sunshine . We did chase down to Wilpshire but by then our luck had run out and there was very little light around .
The AIS 200mm F/4 IF Micro-Nikkor is now in my possession. This lens was in production from 1982 to 2005.

Former Virgin HST power cars nos: 43290 (leading) and 43299 have a run over the S&C on Sunday 7th August 2022 whilst working 1Q17 10:30 Derby RTC to Darlington Network Rail measurement train (via Leeds, Carlisle and Newcastle).
This was a busy 20 minute period with the HST, 56094 on an empty Timber working from Carlisle to Hellifield and Steam 46115 working the northbound Waverley charter all passing Ais Gill.
44932 passes the site of Ais Gill Signal Box with a Railtours Northwest special from Carlisle to Blackpool. 22 May 2013.
Over to the S&C for a couple of hours, not expecting it to be quite so crowded (wrong). DRS liveried 66303 approaches the summit at Ais Gill with train 6K05, the 12.46 Carlisle New Yard - Crewe Basford Hall departmental. A forest of poles (and their owners) have been removed in Photoshop.
Do these poles come in any colour other than light blue? Green perhaps.

Passing the summit (1168ft above sea level) of the "Long Drag" - notice the change of gradient past the bridge - on LMS Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 45305 on the first of 4 winter Cumbrian Mountain Expresses. Mallerstang is almost lost in the mist and driving snow.
The Midland Railway signal box that used to be here is now preserved at the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley.
