A 6 alarm fire took almost an entire block out in the historic Queen St. W. The good news is that no one was hurt in this devastating fire.
Not only did we go without electricity for 11 days, but we had to be without water for two days due to water heater going out and then once it was fixed and we turned on the water, then both bathrooms overflowed with backed up sewer and flooded the other side of the house. Galveston Texas is perhaps best known as the city devastated by the 1900 Galveston Hurricane. The natural disaster on the exposed barrier island is still ranked as the deadliest in United States history, with an estimated death toll of 6,000-8,000 people. The pain reflected in the aftermath of that storm and many others since is visibly apparent everywhere, including in the design of this abandoned seaside recreational building.
