After the crimson display at dawn I previously posted, an orange glow persisted for a good few hours afterward gradually fading away. I could have stayed much longer but we had other commitments early that morning!
Here is a little build I came up with. (And an excuse to use my damaged Vader) I´ve wanted to make this scene for a long time already but I wasn´t sure if I wanted to do a big MOC, scene or little vignette like this. Vignette it is! I might do it as a scene in the future too, we´ll see. It's based on a picture I found online.
I really like how this turned out, it´s a great little display piece! I hope you guys enjoy it as well. Let me know!
Smoke hangs over the city after fireworks, illuminated by the street lights underneath. November 5th 2014.
I never meant my flickr hiatus to be broken this way - especially since it was largely a combination of my being unsatisfied with my own artistic efforts and laziness - but life happens.
Speaking of life happening, what a difficult 48 hours. Which isn't to say that it surprises me that a bigot who ran on that hatred and gained enough of a platform to be taken seriously could win but it's still hard to take.
Even more so, as a gay disabled black person who largely felt they were strongarmed with a 'Clinton OR ELSE' ultimatum - even when Bernie Sanders was a real option - by white people it feels slightly like a slap in the face that a lot of those very people are the reason we are in this pickle right now (see for yourself) but that's just reality I guess. There's still time for the electoral college to choose the popular vote instead and keep us from what is being projected as a major world market crash for us but that's not something I feel I can wholeheartedly put my faith in.
In the meantime change is coming & life is going to have to go on. As for me? I will take this weekend to mourn the state of affairs so I can try and refocus this pain into being proactive and protecting myself as needed. Hopefully this darkness leads to light sooner rather than later and we finally start having the difficult conversations surrounding all these prejudices instead of just hiding them so real steps to eradicate them can actually happen.
Things are going to be hard for sure but I'm trying to be optimistic as long as possible in the interim.

More from Landmannalaugar. This area of broken and smashed landscapes on an enormous scale demonstrates the power of the earth when forming itself.
In the top right corner is old lava poking out the mountainside. I don't know if the soil covered the lava and the lava has since been exposed, or if the lava was blown into the mountainside. Either way, they are massive lumps of lava, and they are a long way from the volcano which spat them out.
In the lower edges of the frame, grasses have got a foothold, and mosses grow in abundance.
The whole area leaves me in awe of the power that formed it, and fascinated by the results. Those powers are still there, seen in the geothermal activity that continues to this day. Also shown very ably by the eruption earlier this year of Eyjafjallajökul which is not too far from here.

Here's a slightly different angle showing damaged autoracks set aside for disposition. No photographer listed, JL Sessa collection.
Of Hurricane Larry. It was a wild night with winds of 140 Km/hr and heavy rain. We only lost one tree thank goodness.

This is the last picture I took in the wee hours this morning.
We stopped to take a break, breath, reflect and talk.
A day of horror for Stockholm, for Sweden and the world.
A sad day.
However, we will not rest.
We do not fear, we do not fall down or weaken.
We stand stronger, stronger than ever.
One can never be prepared when things like this happen, but we can train and expect the unexpected.
We are prepared. And we stand strong.
Pvt. Hikaru "Worm" Tamaki was assigned to Fireteam Zulu of the Talon Corporation. They were tasked with breaking into a bank located in Sakura Falls. This was Hikaru's first time on the job and she was determined to do her best. After all, she needed the money for her own benefit. Little did she know that she would the last 'survivor' of her team. At first, everything seemed to be going well with standard resistance, but it seemed to all go downhill from there. Both sides suffered significant casualties and Hikaru was forced to retreat from the scene after witnessing two of her allies die before her eyes and two others become gravely injured. The events left her traumatized.
About a month ago there was a forest fire near Leavenworth off Highway 2. you can see the damage and you can smell the burned wood when you exit your car. But you can already see where the forest is starting to grow back! :)
