Architect: William Krisel for Palmer & Krisel (1957)

Client: Dr. Canby

Location: 6576 Van Nuys Boulevard, Van Nuys, CA

Photographer: Julius Shulman

William Krisel sent this series of photos to me after seeing the photos of tiki architecture that I posted recently. I see a strong hint of tiki here, and that "Outrigger Room" only serves to reinforce that impression. Also, I have seen this building credited to Armet & Davis. It is not by Armet & Davis, although that firm did design other restaurants from this chain.

I have no idea what kind of place this A-Frame along Freeport Road (Old PA 28) originated as, but it appears to remain in business as a restaurant of some sort. There was a somewhat surprising amount of older roadside stuff along this road leading into PIttsburgh.

on a recent thrifting trip, I picked up this sad looking a-frame shadow box. I painted it in a pretty red, replaced the velvet back and voila! a pretty thread holder for my new craft room.

Let us hear from you if Sunlounger furniture fills your poolside needs.

Brandon's Whataburger dates from the chain's first entry to the region, back in the 70s. It hasn't been a Whataburger in quite some time, but the A-frame is a dead giveaway.

The triangular shape of this house drew my attention . . .

These are some of my favourite shots from the Agility competition I shot (with the help of 2 friends) in Lethbridge, AB about 11 days ago.
