Been playing around with some new LEGO A-frame plates. Cool stuff! See the whole write-up at www.dagsbricks.com/2014/01/lego-techniques-frames.html
The A-Frame Cottage has a deck with a view over a meadow to Morse River Marsh. From a point a few feet from the cottage one has a view of the ocean a mile away.
3-exposure evening HDR taken at the Hapuna Beach Cabins on the big Island of Hawaii.
Its a bit noisy in the shadows, which I might have been able to fix in photomatix, but all my attempts to fix it made the sky much less dramatic, so I just left it.
Walked out of the Brooklyn Pharmacy after getting my booster shot and was treated to this amazing dusk image.

The Barony A Frame is all that is left off the Ayrshire pit near Auchinleck known as The Barony. The head gear was erected in 1954 and is a Grade II listed structure as unique in Britain. It serves as a memorial to the four miners who died when Barony's No.2 Shaft suddenly collapsed in 1962, burying them 1300ft underground and covered in rubble. The pit had a maximum output of 360000 tons of coal per year but closed in 1989 when geological problems were encountered with the only active (No.4) shaft, plunging the area into industrial decay and high unemployment from which it has struggled to recover.
The narrow-gauge railway was used underground to transport coal in "hutches" to the surface was washing and grading.
Another Rolly Crump classic. The attraction's original A-frame entrance with the outrigger canoe bearing Uti, the Fishing Goddess.
Yes, you are really seeing that. No, it is not photoshopped. Yes, there are no hidden wires or supports. Yes, I was having a heart attack and ready to pounce to catch the section of the cathedral if it were to fall.
And for the record yes that's heavier than a gallon of milk.
Hawaii's Most Beautiful Hotel
On the Beach and Lagoon at Waikiki
The Waikikian
Hawaii's most beautiful hotel with a private beach, fresh water pool, 135 suites and rooms, acres of Tiki Gardens, Polynesian Buildings. At The Tahitian Lanai one may dine at water's edge or enjoy cocktails poolside.
Citrus Heights, CA; I believe this is the only surviving location. There are lots of buildings left -- but this seems to be the only one still using the name. The interior is very much original although the fireplace is now used for a fish tank and the fixtures have been changed. The owner uses a special vacuum tool to clean the ropes on that V-shaped roof detail. More examples at my page about 3/4 the way down:
Sign painting by Seamus Liam O'Brien (of course!) - I'm trying out a new A-frame to help advertise my work when I am painting on the street.
ISU facility services is one of the only operators I know of in the Midwest that still uses the A-Frame dumpster collection method.
