So, Scott, probably one of my best friends finds out yesterday he's torn a major muscle across his knee. As a matter of fact the doctors are amazed he can walk. He's a guy who has already endured surgery to rearrange his insides for Barretts Disease and he's got a host of other things eating away at him. All of which he will gladly share with you if you are interested, but won't if you're not. He is also a phenomenal writer who I've had the pleasure to have worked with including our upcoming Medusa's Daughter. Also an excellent dad and devoted husband. What I find amazing is how he just grabs life by the horns and wrestles it to the ground, pretty much rolling around with it all the time. He ignores some of his doctors advice (he's been running on his bum knee until just recently when he finally went and found out what the deal is - and he is has now stopped) , not in a pissy adolescent way - but a measured "I'm not going to give it all up and let it beat me" way. It still freaks me out a bit, I have to admit, that he bucks a few things on his "do not" list for the Barrett's but I also think he weighs his choices against his health, family importance and overall enjoyment of life. So far he's winning. And I'm sticking around to cheer him on, no matter what.

Taken on my way into work. A stoplight gave me time to get out my camera. This is in front of a building on Senate Avenue, a block or so north of the statehouse.

The beauty of basics.
I've seen this image on tv serveral times and I just love the simplicity of it. It suits the monument perfectly; back to the basics of the location.
